Shakib al Hasan reprimanded

Bangladesh allrounder Shakib Al Hasan has received an official reprimand for a moment of aggression during Bangladesh’ successful run chase against Pakistan in the Asia Cup at Mirpur on Wednesday.

The former Bangladesh captain was found guilty of breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct in his side’s five wicket win over Pakistan to clinch a place in the Asia Cup final against India.

Shakib was bowled by a beautiful inswinging delivery from Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir, and in a moment of frustration, the allrounder swung his bat at the stumps in the 18th over of the chase, after which he immediately apologised to the on-field umpires.

Shakib, who was found to have breached Article 2.1.8 relating to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match”, admitted the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by match referee Jeff Crowe.

A level 1 violation of the ICC Code of Conduct constitutes a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of 50% of the player’s match fees.

Shakib and his team will take on a very strong Indian team in the final of the Asia Cup on March 6.
