The legendary spinner Shane Warne has slammed Cricket Australia over the Justin Langer treatment. He compared the whole saga to the Sandpaper Gate in 2018 and asked if Cricket Australia is hiding something.

The Sandpaper Gate happened at Cape Town in 2018 when the Australian opener Cameron Bancroft was caught for ball-tampering during a test match. Later it was found out that Australia’s leadership was all involved in it so Steve Smith and David Warner were banned for a year while Bancroft was banned for 9 months.

“They knew about Tim Paine and still allowed him to captain Australia”- Shane Warne

However, Shane Warne ponders if there is more to it than Cricket Australia covered up.

“We still don’t know the truth about what actually happened at Sandpapergate, Does Cricket Australia know the truth? Do they? Do the same people know the truth about Sandpapergate? Are they hiding anything?” Shane Warne spoke on Fox Sports’ Follow-on podcast.

He further wondered whether Cricket Australia knew the full truth.

Does Cricket Australia know the truth? Is it the truth that we’ve heard? Why should Smith and Warner be the only two? Who knows. But the truth will come out,” he added.

Warne compared the whole scenario with the way Justin Langer was treated as he asks if Cricket Australia is again hiding something. Warne also reminded the case of Tim Paine’s sexting scandal. When Paine’s story broke out, he was sidelined.

“If Cricket Australia are hiding something again after Justin Langer, Tim Paine, we could go on about all the controversies that Cricket Australia has just bungled, messed up and handled completely wrong.

“They knew about Tim Paine and still allowed him to captain Australia and swept it under the carpet. When someone found out they just threw him under the bus. What is this organization doing?” Warne said.

Langer was reportedly offered an extension of 6 months which the 51-year old declined as he stated that he deserved a long-term extension with the results the team produced under him. But Cricket Australia denied the long-term extension so he resigned with an immediate effect despite the fact his contract was set to expire in June.
