Shardul Thakur Shatters Many Records With His First 7-Wicket Haul In First-Class Cricket

India pacer Shardul Thakur has shattered many records with a terrific spell of 7/61 on the second day of the Johannesburg Test match. This was by far his best figure in Test cricket, bettering his previous best 4/61 at the Gabba in 2021.

With the help of this magical spell, India bundles South Africa out on 229 and conceded the lead of only 27 runs and they finished the day with 85/2 at the close of day-2 and were leading by 58 runs.

However, the highlight of the day was Shardul Thakur who 7-for was not only his first in Test cricket but this was his first 7-for in first-class cricket as well. Previously his best figure in first-class cricket was 6/31 against Bengal at Nagpur in 2016.

This 7/61 is also the best figure by any Indian bowler against South Africa. This record was previously held by Ravichandran Ashwin who picked 7/66 at Nagpur in 2015. The record of best figures by an Indian in South Africa was previously held by Harbhajan Singh who ran through the Proteas batting order with figures of 7/120 at Cape Town in 2011.

This 7/61 is in fact the best figure by any bowler in India vs South Africa series in South Africa. Previously this record is held by Allan Donald who picked 7/84 at Port Elizabeth in 1992.
