Spoiler On Drew McIntyre & WWE Championship After Extreme Rules

Drew McIntyre is all set to defend his WWE Championship against his former Tag Team partner Dolph Ziggler. It will mark his fourth overall title defense at the next month’s Extreme Rules pay-per-view event. It was informed during Raw that Ziggler and Robert Roode just jumped over to the red brand from SmackDown to get this title opportunity.

It’s almost certain that Drew McIntyre will likely retain the championship at Extreme Rules as Ziggler will only be used to put over this young superstar. He hasn’t won a world title gold in the past seven years and chances are the least that WWE would set him up for a world title reign at Extreme Rules.

Following that, a compact match will be waiting for Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam against The Viper. During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed the current championship situation over on Raw and noted that it seems Randy Orton is on top of the card. It’s only a matter of time before he wants a title shot and it should be against the Scottish Psychopath. So these two are likely to battle at SummerSlam.

The Wrestling Observer stated the following about it:

For those who don’t know, Drew McIntyre himself wanted this match to happen, badly. He would love to lock horns with the self-proclaimed Greatest Wrestler Ever.

It was further noted that nobody has given any confirmation on this future plan about SummerSlam. But the ongoing storyline does play out in that way which seems the match is pretty evident from a booking perspective. The company is building both Drew McIntyre and Randy Orton as the top babyface and heel, respectively. Hence, a clash is evident at the biggest party of the summer.

It also seems that both these men are being given Extreme Rules opponents who will eventually elevate their current status. Drew McIntyre will defeat Dolph Ziggler to head on to the summer as the WWE Champion. As for Orton, he is expected to face The Big Show at the most extreme night of the year. He’s expected to win to go into SummerSlam as the strongest challenger for the WWE Championship.
