Australia took the advantage on the first day of the fifth and final Ashes Test as Joe Root, and Jonny Bairstow fell on the brink of stumps on day one. England won the toss and chose to bat first in the rain affected day. Alastair Cook and Mark Stoneman were involved in 28 runs opening partnership before Pat Cummins dismissed Stoneman. Cook and James Vince got the solid start as they scored 39 and 25 respectively. England skipper Joe Root looked in fine touch as he scored 83 but fell just before stumps. Dawid Malan was unbeaten on 55. Bairstow was dismissed on 5. Josh Hazelwood and Cummins picked up two wickets each and Mitchell Starc picked up the wicket of Joe Root.

Five-time Australian Open finalist Andy Murray withdrew from the Australian Open on Thursday due to a hip injury, two days after pulling out of the Brisbane Open.
Diego Costa Scores on his Return to Atletico Madrid

Diego Costa made a goalscoring return to Atletico Madrid with a second-half goal in their 4-0 Copa de Rey win at Lleida. Costa scored just five minutes after coming off the bench in the second half.

Arsenal vs Chelsea

Arsenal and Chelsea played an entertaining 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium. Jack Wilshere opened the scoring in the 63rd minute before Chelsea was awarded a controversial penalty which Eden Hazard converted easily. Chelsea then took a 2-1 lead through Marcos Alonso, but Hector Bellerin denied the blues a win as he scored in the 91st minute.
