Former Pakistan players have developed a knack of hogging the limelight by coming up with outrageous comments about India players especially Virat Kohli. The latest to join this ever-growing bandwagon is ex-Pakistan fast-bowler Sohail Khan.

In a recent interview, the former pacer has revealed how he tried to intimidate Virat Kohli when India and Pakistan locked horns against each other in 2015 World Cup at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Sohail Khan claimed that the matter reached such a stage that captains Misbah-ul-Haq and MS Dhoni had to intervene.

Sharing the incident, Sohail Khan claimed that he shut Virat Kohli up by pointing out his credentials in international cricket. Sohail Khan claimed that he addressed the India batting superstar as ‘beta’ (son) while calling himself his father.

“Virat came and told me ‘Aap cricket mein abhi aaye hain. And itni baatein karte ho (You’ve just arrived and you speak so much). I was a Test cricketer back then. I played Test matches in 2006-07. Then, in between, I endured a troubled knee that forced me out of action.

“I said ‘Beta jab tu Under-19 khel raha tha na, tera baap Test cricketer tha’ (Son, when you were playing Under-19 for India, your father was a Test player). That’s how I said it. Then if you see carefully, Misbah intervened and he got angry at me. He asked me to keep quiet,” Sohail Khan said on the Nadir Ali Podcast.

Here is a snippet of the interview where Sohail Khan talked about Virat Kohli:

Speaking further, Sohail Khan said that Virat Kohli has earned his respect now. Calling him an amazing batsman, the former cricketer said: “I respect him today because he is a great batter, amazing.”

Well, Virat Kohli had turned out to be the difference in that match too. He was already one of the best batsman in the world at that stage and showed it by scoring a stunning century to help India post a big total of 300 for 7. Sohail Khan had also left his mark in the game by taking 5 wickets including that of Kohli. India had gone on to win the game in the end.
