Former India bowling coach Bharat Arun, who worked with both MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, believes that every captain brings a different methodology to the table. Arun also compared the contrasting style of the captaincy of Dhoni and Kohli.
Notable that Bharat Arun was stepped down from the role of India bowling coach at the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2021. Currently, he has been associated with Kolkata Knight Riders as a bowling coach.

Recalling his first stint as India bowling coach when he worked with Dhoni in the Indian team, Arun termed him as the coolest mind one could ever have. Arun states that being the Indian captain is the second most enviable job in the country.
“I watched MS Dhoni, the coolest mind you could ever have. Nothing fazes him. If you have a mind that is cool, calm, calculative. That is the best state to take decisions on the go, because the decisions have to be very dynamic. You are making decisions on the go. Next to the Prime Minister, the Indian captain is the most enviable job in the country, so I think somebody who can take the pressure [is the right fit],” Arun spoke to News9 in an interview.
Speaking about Virat Kohli’s captaincy, Arun said that his approach is completely contrasting Dhoni’s as he used to bring lots of energy on the field, he used to believe in winning at any cost.

“Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni are contrasting characters”- Bharat Arun
“If you look at Virat Kohli and Dhoni, contrasting characters. But each one has his way of bringing something to the table. Once he is on the field, Virat is at the opposition. He wants to win at any cost. The energy he brought to the field was absolutely different,” he added.
“He was willing to lead by example, take the bull by its horn and that’s what the captain should do. If you look at Rohit Sharma, he has a different methodology to his captaincy but he is also equally successful,” Arun further said.
Virat Kohli recently stepped down from the captaincy in Test cricket. He led India in 68 Tests, 95 ODIs, and 50 T20Is. Rohit has already been appointed as the white-ball captain of India. The announcement for the new test captain hasn’t been made yet.
