But it didn’t work out well in the end.

According to Ross, WWE had a plan to bring Sting in on a semi-regular basis so that he could be used as a ‘special’ attraction. He also revealed that the Vince McMahon owned company tried to recruit the star from the moment WCW closed, but Sting was not interested to sign a contract. He instead chose to let his contract with Time Warner to run out instead.

“We knew [Sting would] be healthy, he’d be refreshed, and he’d have a full bank account. He should be a happy guy. And we only wanted him for a part-time role at best to maximize the investment and to not overuse an asset that had more matches in him than he had left. So yeah, we were always talking about bringing him in. Why not? But Rock and Sting would have been cool as hell.”

One of the supposed reasons why the match did not happen is because The Rock ended left WWE in 2004 to focus on his Hollywood career. Ross added that a match with Sting could have extended his WWE tenure since it could have created headlines, all over. According to the veteran commentator, The Rock also believed that he could have a great match with Sting.

At this point, there are rumors flying all over around that Sting might come back from an injury retirement to compete at Super ShowDown 2020. As for The Rock, he is busy with his Hollywood commitments.
