The surprise winners of this year’s wimbledon are in the men’s doubles section in which Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau were crowned as the Champs.

Let’s look at the top five matches of Wimbledon 2015 :

5. Sania Mirza/Martina Hingis vs Ekaterina Makarova/Elena Vesnina:

This is one of the best Women’s doubles matches one could witness as the Indo-Swiss pair made a stunning comeback to get the better of the Russian duo. After, losing the first set 5-7 thing looked tough for the Indo-Swiss pair but they managed to change things around with a terrific comeback in the second set by winning it 7-6(4). The third set was highly intense as the Indo-Swiss pair made quite a staggering come back from being 2-5 down in the third set and later went on to win 5 games on the trot and emerged as the champions. This match lasted for 2 hrs and 27 minutes. This match surely deserves to be one of the best matches in this year’s Wimbledon.

4. Marin Cilic vs John Isner :

In the men’s category it’s one of the best matches featured in this year’s Wimbledon as the match lasted for 2 days. John Isner was also part of a marathon which happened in the 2010 Wimbledon against Nicholas Mahut. On this occasion, it was the 2014 US Open champion Marin Cilic and the result is different as the Croatian emerged as the winner this time around. He defeated Isner in a gruelling 5 setter 7-6,6-7,6-4,6-7,12-10. It took 2 games and just 5 minutes for the Croatian to close out the game in court 1 the next day.

3. Serena Williams vs Heather Watson:

The British women almost did the impossible by taking down the no 1 seed Serena Williams in a tough encounter. Things looked very easy for the American in the first set as she took the first set 6-2. It looked that the American had the match in her hands pretty easy, but there was a huge turn around in the second set as the Brit won the second set 6-4. “Twist in the tale” they say and it certainly was as the Brit surprised everyone by taking an early lead in the third by breaking Serena and was up 3-0. But, that’s where Serena showed how a champion she is by turning things around quickly. The Brit lacked penetration when it mattered the most and couldn’t handle the pressure in the crucial phase of the match and that’s where the experience of Serena prevailed as she took the third and final set 7-5 and ended up beating Heather Watson 6-2,4-6,7-5.

2. Novak Djokovic vs Kevin Anderson:

This was the only toughest hurdle the world no 1 had to overcome was in his Wimbledon campaign in the fourth round against the big serving South African Kevin Anderson. After the South African, taking the first set in a tie-breaker 7-6(6), Djokovic managed to make a comeback in the second by leading 3-0 but Anderson was all over the Serbian by breaking him again in the second and clinched the second set 7-6(6). Things looked very grim for the Serbian and Anderson was on the verge of creating the biggest upset of Wimbledon 2015 but Djokovic proved how solid he is mentally by taking the third and fourth sets in quick successions 6-1,6-4. But the match moved to the next day where Djokovic lost the momentum he had but the 5th set was an absolute cracker but the no 1 seed managed to held his nerve on the crucial situations of the game and went on to win the match 6-7(6),6-7(6),6-1,6-4,7-5.

1. Stanislas Wawrinka vs Richard Gasquet:

This match grabs the top spot as defeating the in form player Wawrinka is never an easy task as he defeated the World no 1 in the all important French Open. Wawrinka, After losing the first set 4-6, managed to get back on track in the second and third by grabbing it 6-4, 6-3 with some sublime backhands and Serves. Richard Gasquet’s backhand wasn’t bad either as it was a battle of single handed backhand. However, Gasquet stood strong in the fourth as he clinched the fourth set 6-4. The fifth and final set turned out to be an epic battle as both the players fought their heart out and it was Gasquet who had a healthy lead in the final set serving for the match 5-3 and 30-0 in the lead and went on to lose the game as Wawrinka broke his serve. Gasquet, stood mentally strong and firm and overcome the hurdle and took 11 games in the final set to emerge victorious. The French Man took the fifth and final set 11-9 and defeated the Swiss 6-4,4-6,3-6,6-4,11-9 and caused one of the biggest upsets and made his first appearance in a grand slam semi-final.
