Uttar Pradesh Wizards trashed Kalinga Lancers 5-1 to register their first win of the Hero Hockey India League at the Major Dyhan Chand Stadium at Lucknow today. It was an excellent performance by UP. The Kalinga Lancers had no answers for the attacking played by the UP wizard’s team. It helped them to rise in the points table.
UP wizards began on a positive note when the striker hit the shot but was well saved by the goalkeeper. In 4.50 minutes UP wizards earned a penalty corner, the umpire called it hit but the UP wizards called a referral and the decision was upheld. The shot was well hit by dragflicker V R Ragunath to give UP wizards a 1-0 lead. In the 10th minute Kalinga lancers tried a shot but was well saved by Sreejesh. At the end of 1st quarter it was 1-0 in favor of UP wizards.
In the second quarter Kaling Lancers asked for a review but was denied and the decision was reversed. UP wizards tried many shots in the 2nd quarter but not able to penetrate the Lancers keeper. At the end of 2nd quarter it was 1-0 in favor of UP wizards.
In the third quarter no goals were scored by either of the teams. UP wizards dominated the match from the start. Kalinga Lancer’s team tried to comeback in the match but their forward line did not support much to the teams cause.
In the fourth quarter Up wizards scored 4 more goals while Kalinga Lancers scored the consolation goal. The goal scorers for UP wizards were RV Uthappa in the 48th minute and then two more quick goals were scored by UP wizards. After that Russell ford scored the goal for Kalinga Lancers. After that UP wizards earned a 2 penalty corners and then a penalty stroke. The penalty storke was converted by Herbterg to widen the gap to 5-1.
