Andy Murray passes the tough test in his opening round match against Nick Kyrgios by defeating the Australian in four sets 7-5, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. Andy Murray who was challenged in the very first round overcame the hurdle to safely books his place in the second round of the US Open 2015.
Going by the stats there is nothing to choose between the two players as they were pretty close. But the Brit managed to win the crucial points which mattered the most. Murray hit 18 aces although his first serve percentage was poor. Murray won 52 of the 73 first serve points and 28 of the 52-second serve points. Murray has improved his game play at the net which has been a key element to his game and was very pretty successful too in the opening round to winning 17 of the 23 points. Kyrgios bettered Murray in first serve percentage and almost matched him in winners tally.
Murray managed to convert 7 of his 15 breakpoints which were good enough for him to seal the spot in the second round whereas Kyrgios found it difficult to break the Brit’s serve. The Aussie converted just 3 of the 14 break points he faced and made 39 unforced errors to Murray’s 23.
Murray, in the second round, will face the Adrian Mannarino who defeated Russian Konstantin Kravchuk 7-6,6-4,6-1.
