US Open has reached its business end, and after all the upsets and shock exits this season some of the top seeded players have managed to reach the quarter finals of the tournament. Two quarterfinals from men’s and women’s singles have been done and dusted. In women’s singles, the two American crowd favorites won their respective matches.

Day nine at the Flushing meadows belonged to America, in the first quarterfinal in the Women’s singles, number nine seed American Venus Williams played 13 seed Petra Kvitova of Czech Republic in a closely fought match. Venus won the match in three sets 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(7-2). Kvitova who beat Wimbledon Champion Gabrine Muguruza in the previous round was defeated by the two times champion Williams in a contest played for two and half hours. In the absence of Serena Williams who gave birth to a baby girl last week, it is a great opportunity for Venus to win her her third US Open title.

Anderson will face 12th seed P. Carreno Busta of Spain who defeated 29th seed Diego Schwartzman in straight sets 6-4, 6-4, 6-2.

Day 10 will see Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in action. In a repeat of 2009 US Open Final, Roger Federer will face Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina. Federer will be looking forward to avenging the defeat in the final eight years ago.

However, Rafael Nadal will have an easy opponent in the quarterfinals as he faces unseeded 20 years old Russian Andrey Rublev.  If Federer and Nadal win their respective matches, they will face each other in the Semi-Finals.

In the women’s singles, Madison Keys (15) will face Kaia Kanepi in her quarterfinals. Number one seed Karolina Pliskova will face another American CoCo Vandeweghe.
