After creating history in his debut in the world of professional boxing, Vijender Singh remembers the contribution of his first boxing coach in Bhiwani Boxing Club Jagdish Singh. Speaking exclusively from Manchester Arena on Saturday after he demolished his British opponent Sonny Whiting only in 13 minutes, Vijender said, “After returning to the dressing room today, I was remembering Jagdish sir. Do you know whether he had watched my bout today in television? It was his teaching that I must have concentration of hundred percent during the fight. And today also, before stepping onto the ring, my trainer Lee Beard had also asked me to maintain the concentration level at the best. That is why I kept myself cool right from the beginning of the bout. And later on, precisely from the second round I started blowing straight punches towards him.”

Bijendra admitted he did not expect that the bout would be over within only 13 minutes. He added saying, “Whiting had thrown a lot of verbal punches ahead of the bout. But I did not care those words. Rather I concentrated on my own style, tried to stay cool and start the bout with wait-and-watch policy on my opponent.”

Even after being flooded with appreciations and praises from the Indian sports field as well as from the other sections through the social networking website Bijendra Singh seemed nonchalant. Rather he quipped, “I should not be complacent at all. I have started my innings in the professional boxing. So, I have to go a long way. My next bout will be in Harrow on October 30. So, I will be immediately going to sleep and resume training from tomorrow.”

The ace Indian boxer will return to India on the occasion of forthcoming Diwali and he informed he would make the due celebration with his family that time. “After completing first round of bouts in this phase I will return to India during Diwali. And I will make celebrations with my family, friends that time. And I will also meet Jagdish sir during that time, “added Vijender.
