Wasim Jaffer is currently working for the Odisha team as their head coach. Now he will guide them in the Ranji Trophy. For two years, Jaffer worked with Punjab Kings, they failed to qualify for the playoffs. The franchise also didn’t retain its captain KL Rahul. Before the mega auction, they retained only two players- Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh.

Jaffer will now shift his focus to India’s premier first-class tournament which is making a comeback after one season. Odisha has been placed in a group of Mumbai, Maharashtra, and Goa. The tournament will be played in two parts. The group stage will be held from February 17 to March 15 while the knockout stage will be held after the IPL from May 30 to June 26.
Odisha will start its campaign against Goa on February 17. Odisha Cricket Association recently announced a 20-man squad which will be led by Subhransu Senapati.
“Besides the development of cricket across all age groups, he will also be a part of coaches development program across the state. Jaffer is one of the legends of Indian cricket who hails from Mumbai and holds a very impressive and coaching profile.
“He holds three records in his name as the highest run-scorer in the First-Class matches and has the highest number of hundreds to his name in the First-Class cricket matches,” Odisha Cricket Association secretary Sanjay Behera had said last year while announcing Jaffer as Odisha’s head coach.
