It’s chapter no.41 between the Swiss Roger Federer and Serb Novak Djokovic at Western and Southern open. Both the players have sealed their spot in the finals which is a record 41st meeting between these two players.

The first semi-final featured the Serb Novak Djokovic and Ukrainian Alexander Dolgopolov in action. Novak managed to beat the Ukrainian in tight three sets 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-2. Dolgopolov had a blistering start to the match taking the first set putting pressure immediately on Novak.

Dolgopolov had his chances to close out the match in the second set but failed to capitalise on crucial points which gave away the second set to Novak Djokovic. Dolgopolov ran out of gas in the third set which allowed the Serb to dictate play to the fullest and eventually got the third set quite comfortably. In the final set, Djokovic converted 2 of his 3 break points whereas Dolgopolov failed to convert once on two attempts.

The second semi-final in the night session featured the Swiss Roger Federer taking on the Brit Andy Murray. It wasn’t a close contest as the previous semi-final as the Swiss registered a comfortable straight sets victory over Murray. Federer defeated Murray 6-4, 7-6(6) after 1hr 30mins of tennis.

Throughout the entire match, Murray failed to break the Swiss serve in the entire match. However, Federer broke his serve once in the first. Murray showed better resistance in the second set, but it wasn’t good enough as the Swiss emerged victorious in a tight tie-breaker.

Since when Roger Federer defeated Djokovic earlier in the year at Dubai duty championships it’s Djokovic who had the upper hand in rest of the events including the Wimbledon championships. Novak is just one step away from completing the golden masters becoming the first man ever to win all the ATP 1000 masters. On the other hand Roger Federer will be looking to win his seventh Cincinnati masters title.
