Former Pakistan Rashid Latif believes that the tussle between Virat Kohli and BCCI made a huge impact in India’s horror show in South Africa. Latif also accused BCCI that they asked Kohli to step down from Test captaincy as well.

Notable that India lost the test series by 1-2 in the 3-match series despite taking a 1-0 lead in the first match. It was even worse in ODIs as the proteas clean swept the ODI series by a 3-0 margin.

Virat Kohli stepped down from Test captaincy after the series loss against South Africa

Latif opined that Indian cricket has reached a dead end now and it would only get things worse from here on. Notable that Virat Kohli resigned from the T20I captaincy after the T20 World Cup to manage his workload but he clearly stated that he would like to continue as Test and ODI skipper. But a month later he was sacked from ODI captaincy as well.

In an interview, the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said that he personally asked to reconsider his resignation from the T20 captaincy but he didn’t. Then in a press conference that Virat Kohli revealed that such conversation never happened between him and BCCI officials as his resignation was received well by selectors. However, he showed disappointment with the way he was sacked from ODI captaincy.

Then a day after India lost to South Africa in the Test series, he dropped the bombshell to step down from Test captaincy as well. Latif feels that it will impact Indian cricket in a huge way.

“It has reached a dead end now. And there is nothing in a dead end. No way out. Whoever’s plan this was, it just did not work out. It was wrong and it backfired. Fact is when a player is leading a team for near about 10 years, his roots are deeply instilled in the team. You shouldn’t break that. It sets a bad example,” Rashid Latif said in a conversation on YouTube channel ‘Cricket Baaz with Waheed Khan’

Rohit Sharma has already been appointed as the white-ball captain for India while there are speculations floating around for Test captaincy as Rahul, Pant, and Bumrah are also considered as possible candidates for the job.
