Four Ireland Women cricketers Isobel Joyce, Cecelia Joyce, Clare Shillington, and Ciara Metcalfe have decided to hang their boots. Ireland Women didn’t have a memorable campaign as they slipped to their fourth loss against New Zealand on Saturday.

Moreover, the four cricketers including the twins went on to announce their international retirement soon after the game. Ireland lost the last match by eight wickets after they scored just 79 runs after opting to bat first. New Zealand managed to achieve the target within eight overs with a brilliant knock from Sophie Devine. She scored 51 runs off just 22 deliveries smashing seven boundaries and three sixes.

Meanwhile, Joyce sisters didn’t have an outing to remember as Cecelia scored one run while her sister failed to open her account.

Four cricketers call it a day.

Isobel made her debut in 1999 against India and had played 79 ODI for her nation. She had scored 995 runs for Ireland and had bagged 66 wickets to her name in the 50-over version. Moreover, the all-rounder took 33 wickets and had scored 944 runs from 55 T20Is. As far as Cecelia is concerned, she represented Ireland in 57 ODIs, and 43 T20Is scoring 1172 and 659 runs respectively.

Even the New Zealand Women gave the two players a guard of honor at the end of the game and showed their respect for the way they’ve contributed to Ireland over the years.

In addition, Clare Shillington and Ciara Metcalfe also decided to retire from international cricket. The duo had already confirmed the same before the start of the World T20. Furthermore, Ireland skipper Laura Delany poured wishes to all the four cricketers for their brilliant contribution towards their country.
“I can’t thank them enough for what they’ve done for us. The next 10-12 months will be about transitioning the team as we don’t have any international fixtures coming up,” Laura Delany said during the post-match presentation ceremony.
Meanwhile, Australia and India Women teams have qualified for the semifinals.
