This week’s episode of WWE RAW witnessed the return of former Divas Champion Paige to WWE television. She came back to endorse The Kabuki Warriors, whom she was helping out on the main roster, earlier this year.

WWE put her on their manager’s spot as these two have slight language problems, being Japanese. Paige as a spokesperson of the duo worked quite well until she required another neck surgery to get healed.

Coming back to the show, Paige hoped to get along with the Asuka and Kairi Sane and continue her stint as their promoter. However, the newly turned heel duo had something else in mind.

Asuka spat green mist in Paige’s face to end the bond, right away. The first-ever NXT Women’s Champion’s stint as their manager has effectively come to an end. It was a moment that generated heel heat before Becky Lynch ran down to make the save and begin her match against Kairi Sane.

Now the question is why WWE would actually plan such a segment that removes a popular superstar like Paige out of context. Well, they have to put over the tag champs as strong heels, be it at the expense of Paige.

During the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed the Paige angle that took place on WWE RAW. He mentioned that the Kabuki Warriors – Asuka and Kairi Sane needed to do something that could earn them boos.

The fans were showering them with cheers so far because of their earlier clean image. So the officials had to do something to get them over as villains. In this case, they used Paige, effectively. Here’s more on the situation courtesy of ringsidenews.com,

“It may have just been a way to try and get them heel heat because everyone is cheering them at the house shows and they turned. I mean even in Australia they cheered them against the IIconics who are the local women, but they’ve been cheered at every house show.”

“So they needed to do something because they need to be heels even though there are probably few people in the entire company who are better suited to be a babyface than Kairi Sane.”

After what transpired on WWE Raw, it’s certain that we won’t be seeing The Kabuki Warriors wrestling in a ring with Paige standing in their corner. But they are still the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions who are set to face Dakota Kai and Tegan Nox on NXT, this week to defend their titles. It will be interesting to see whether the NXT crowd reacts positively towards them as both of them are former NXT roster members.
