WWE: Raw May 1, 2017 - Analysis 1

This week the red brand produced a better show than the last week. They finally concentrated more on quality over quantity. We had six matches only this week and we do not see less than eight matches in Raw so often. There were so many promos but it was okay keeping the storylines in mind.

The first promo involving all the ladies of the division was really good. Once again Alexa Bliss proved herself to be one of the best women ever to step foot in a WWE ring. It was an excellent promo. She is proving her worth over and over.

Alexa Bliss claimed to be addressed as ‘the goddess of WWE’ from now on. 0

Seems like she got this nickname permanently, as the commentators kept addressing her as the goddess of Monday Night Raw.

The segment was followed by an eight woman tag team match involving all the women from RAW. The match was nothing special and there was no need of booking it for over fifteen minutes. It was quite a boring match.

Enzo Amore and Luke Gallows had a match next. This match was quite entertaining, it was totally dominated by the Gallows but still, they had to cheat to win it. We do not think if there was any reason for putting the distraction thing in this booking.

The next segment involved Seth Rollins, Finn Balor, Dean Ambrose and the Miz. It was arguably the best promo of the night. Seth Rollins and Finn Balor started the promo with the argument over who should get the Universal title first.

Dean Ambrose then came out and told them that they should not bother about the Universal championship because Brock Lesnar is nowhere in the picture, the IC title is the most prestigious title of Raw now. Miz also joined frame and claimed for the IC title shot. The promo was really cool, they tried to present IC title as the prime title of Raw. But it does not work like this, we all know that.

Some back to back matches to fill the card were next. One of them was a six-man cruiserweight tag team action, and the other one was a one on one match between Heath Slater and Apollo Crews. Nothing was too special about either one of these matches.

Kurt Angle was scheduled to address the current situation of Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman next. He told that both wrestlers would be out of action for sometimes, but as soon as they come back, their feud would definitely continue. Bray Wyatt interrupted Kurt Angle and a feud between Wyatt and the authority.

This is a great idea of having this feud. If this is seriously happening, it should go on for a number of months at least.

Next up was a cruiserweight action between Austin Aries and TJ Parkins. It was a good match and it had a good continuation of the feud between Aries and Neville. Good piece of booking we must admit.

The main event of this episode was an absolute class. All three athletes did amazing in the ring together. They put on a WrestleMania worthy performance. Samoa Joe attacked Seth at the end of the match which clearly indicated that their feud is not over yet. And Bray Wyatt attacked Finn Balor to cost him the match. Bray teased this feud on his first night on Raw, now, it is finally happening.

Final Verdict – Overall, it was a good show. Definitely better than some of the previous weeks. However, it did not feature Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman. But still, it was a good show. They teased some new feuds, some were to be going on, and we also got a new no 1 contender for the Intercontinental championship. They should concentrate on building on all the existing feuds well, which they lacked really bad before Payback.
