Summer Rae has been away from the WWE for over six years except for her one-off Royal Rumble return in 2022. But her social media skits continue to keep her popularity alive in or outside the wrestling world. She loves to give her fanbase what they want which in turn continues to increase her followers. Apparently, this was also the reason why she was paired up with Fandango in the first place.
During her six-year tenure with the WWE, Summer Rae is mostly known for her stint as Fandango’s dancer. She also played a love interest in a storyline involving Dolph Ziggler, Rusev, and Lana. Such roles also landed her on WWE’s reality TV series, Total Divas.
Royal Rumble 2022: Summer Rae Reveals Her WWE Return Was Supposed To Be A Surprise
While speaking on Oral Sessions with Renèe Paquette (fka Renee Young in the WWE), Summer Rae talked about becoming Fandango’s dance partner during her time in WWE. Apparently, Triple H wanted her to be the dancer after she garnered massive attention from Twitter.
She disclosed that after working in NXT for a long time, it was during a European tour that Fandango’s original dancer couldn’t travel to the tour. In a last-minute decision, she was chosen to fill up the void and the fan reaction was so great that she permanently took the role.

Summer Rae was a popular choice to be Fandango’s valet
“After the tour, they sent me down and the next week they had the girl back on Raw. The fans went wild. They loved her, but they were like, ‘No, where is Summer? What’s going on.’ They couldn’t believe it. Maybe two weeks they were like, ‘it’s fine, they’ll forget.’ Maybe one or two weeks, I remember going up to TV and Hunter was like,” Summer Rae recalled.
“‘Well, you’re here because Twitter threw a fit and they wanted you to be here.’ I understand why they didn’t want me with him because he is the main attraction in that pairing, it was his big debut and me being a name vs. a no name dancer, it would be us.”
Over on Total Divas, Summer Rae also featured in a relationship drama with Fandango whom she wanted to date as they were so closely working on WWE TV. But their chemistry just didn’t go well and the duo fell apart. It also happened on TV where Fandango was attracted to Layla to leave Rae as her dancing partner.
After this happened in 2014, Summer Rae played valets to the likes of Tyler Breeze, Rusev, and Damien Sandow before transitioning herself as a full-time performer in the WWE. However, she couldn’t continue that stint for a long as an injury forced her to quit wrestling. She was subsequently released from the WWE.
