Mushfiqur Rahim Fractures Index Finger Ahead Of Zimbabwe Series

Mushfiqur Rahim, wicket-keeper batsman, in a major blow to Bangladesh, has fractured his index finger ahead of the Zimbabwe series. Mushfiqur Rahim sustained the injury while playing in a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) T20 match on Monday. The scan reports were released on Tuesday which revealed the extent of the injury.

Mushfiqur Rahim was the top scorer in the recently-concluded 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka at home. He scored 237 runs in the three matches and helped Bangladesh win their first ODI series against Sri Lanka by scoring 125 in the second ODI.

Mushfiqur Rahim Has Come Up With A Hairline Fracture On His Left Index Finger

Mushfiqur Rahim had earlier chosen to skip the T20I series during the Zimbabwe visit. He informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board about his choice. This is the first run through Mushfiqur Rahim has requested a break in his international vocation up from when he has been injured. Since making his first appearance in 2005, he has addressed Bangladesh in 74 Tests, 227 ODIs, and 86 T20I games.

“We did a CT scan on Mushfiq’s hand, which has come up with a hairline fracture on his left index finger,” ESPNcricinfo quoted Debashish Chowdhury, BCB’s chief physician, as saying.

“We have asked him to take a break of one week, but we are hopeful that the recovery won’t take too long since it is a hairline fracture. We will review the injury after one week, and then we can determine what to do next,” he added.

Bangladesh is slated to leave for Zimbabwe on June 29 to lock horns in a one-off Test, three ODIs, and as many T20Is. The ODI series will form part of the inaugural 2020–2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League. Bangladesh last toured Zimbabwe in April and May 2013. Originally, two Test matches were scheduled to be played on the tour, but one of them was removed in place of an extra T20I match.

Mushfiqur Rahim Had Earlier Informed The Selectors That He Wanted To Pull Out Of The T20I Series Against Zimbabwe

Earlier this month, Mushfiqur Rahim had informed the selectors that he wanted to pull out of the T20I series against Zimbabwe. Last month, Bangladesh clinched the ODI series against Sri Lanka 2-1 after suffering a loss in the third ODI. Mushfiqur Rahim played a key role in Bangladesh’s triumph scoring 237 runs in three games including a stunning ton.

After the series win, Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo said he wants the side to come out victorious in games away from home. Bangladesh’s recent 2-1 win over Sri Lanka was their tenth ODI series win at home out of the last 11 such engagements going back to 2015. However, the picture is very different when playing ODIs – perhaps their favourite format – away from home.

They have the best win-loss ratio at home since April 2015 (minimum 20 ODIs played), but among the worst away win-loss ratios in the same period. This, a result of Bangladesh having lost five out of seven away ODI series in this period, their only win coming against West Indies in 2018 after tying the series against Sri Lanka the previous year.

Mushfiqur Rahim Has Not Lost His Appetite For Run Making: VVS Laxman

Mushfiqur Rahim was the top scorer in the recently-concluded 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka at home. He scored 237 runs in the three matches and helped Bangladesh win their first ODI series against Sri Lanka by scoring 125 in the second ODI.

Commenting on Rahim’s performance in May, VVS Laxman representing the ICC Voting Academy added: “Even after 15 years at the highest level, Mushfiqur has not lost his appetite for run-making.

“He was at his imperious best in the one-day series at home against Sri Lanka, a picture of consistency with the highlight being 125 in the second match which helped his side secure a winning 2-0 lead in the three-match series.”

Mushfiqur Rahim scored 237 runs in 3 ODIs against Sri Lanka with the top score of 125

“What made his feat even more notable was that it was Bangladesh’s first-ever ODI series triumph against the 1996 World Cup champions. To shore up the middle order and don the wicket-keeping gloves speaks volumes of his fitness and skills,” he added.

Mushfiqur Rahim has chosen to skip the T20I series during the Zimbabwe visit one month from now. He has informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board about his choice. This is the first run through Mushfiqur Rahim has requested a break in his international vocation up from when he has been injured. Since making his first appearance in 2005, he has addressed Bangladesh in 74 Tests, 227 ODIs, and 86 T20I games.

Kathryn Bryce Batted With Flair And Bowled Well Too: Ramiz Raja

All-rounder Kathryn Bryce is the first player from Scotland – male or female – to make it to the top 10 of the batting or bowling lists in the ICC Player Rankings released recently. Kathryn Bryce played four T20Is against Ireland where she scored 96 runs and took 5 wickets with an economy rate of 4.76 in the month of May.

Commenting on Kathryn’s performance in May, Ramiz Raja representing the ICC Voting Academy said, “Kathryn’s all-round game came through in a series that her team lost. She batted with flair and bowled well too and deserved to be the player of the month for May.”

The three nominees for both categories were shortlisted based on on-field performances and overall achievements during the month (the first to the last day of each calendar month).

The shortlist is then voted on by the independent ICC Voting Academy and fans around the world. The ICC Voting Academy comprises prominent members of the cricket family including senior journalists, former players, broadcasters, and members of the ICC Hall of Fame.

The Voting Academy submit their votes by email and retain a 90 per cent share of the vote. Additionally, fans registered with the ICC are able to vote via the ICC website once the shortlisted players are announced and have a 10 per cent share of the vote. Winners are announced every second Monday of the month via the ICC’s digital channels.

The ICC Player of the Month is a monthly award presented since January 2021 by the International Cricket Council to recognize cricketers, male and female, that have best performed across all forms of international cricket. Rishabh Pant, Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, and Babar Azam have been previous recipients.

Shakib Al Hasan Unlikely To Get NOC For Upcoming CPL 2021

Shakib Al Hasan is unlikely to get a no-objection certificate for the upcoming Caribbean Premier League which was hinted at by the Bangladesh Cricket Board. All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan returned to Jamaica Tallawahs, a franchise he represented in 2016 and 2017 where he won the title in his first stint, for the forthcoming edition of CPL.

However, Bangladesh is expected to have a busy schedule at that point considering they are expected to host Australia with England and New Zealand scheduled to follow.

Shakib Al Hasan’s NOC For CPL Not Yet Decided: Akram Khan

BCB cricket operation chairman Akram Khan told Cricbuzz on Saturday (May 28) that although they have not taken any decision in this regard, they are expecting to field a full-strength team for those matches.

“We have not taken any decision about it (NOC for CPL). When the time comes we can make a decision in this regard,” he said. “We certainly want to play against them with our full-strength squad.”

Going forward, however, Akram Khan’s wish might not get granted unlike the previous occasions considering the BCB is expected to add a few new clauses in the contracts for the national cricketers. Cricbuzz understands that the players will be given an option to state their availability for the national team and inform the board beforehand about their commitments to different franchise-based tournaments.

Shakib Al Hasan Admits Lack Of Form During Sri Lanka ODIs And Want To Ensure Not To Repeat Same Mistakes

The decision to include this clause cropped up after Shakib Al Hasan decided to skip the Sri Lanka tour to make him available for the Indian Premier League 2021. BCB president Nazmul Hasan insisted that they will add this clause in their next central contract so that they don’t panic at the last minute.

Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan on Saturday admitted about his lack of form during the recently-concluded ODI series against Sri Lanka but vowed not to replicate the same mistakes going ahead. The all-rounder looked a pale shadow of his former self with the bat at his favourite number three position registering scores of 15, 0, and 4.

“Of course, my expectations weren’t fulfilled during the series. But I have to ensure that these things won’t happen next and it’s very important,” Shakib told reporters at a city hotel during a jersey launching ceremony of Mohammedan Sporting Club for the upcoming Dhaka Premier League.

Shakib Al Hasan recently decided to skip the Pakistan Super League in order to play the DPL.

Before IPL 2021 came to an abrupt halt due to the Covid-19 crisis in India and multiple positive cases within numerous franchises, Shakib Al Hasan could score 38 runs in three matches for his newly acquired franchise Kolkata Knight Riders. As a result, he has been dropped soon after.

Moreover, he carried the poor form to the ODI series against Sri Lanka. Although Bangladesh won the series by a margin of 2-1, Shakib Al Hasan’s return was uninspiring. The 34-year-old has only scored 19 runs in three matches at a strike rate of less than 50 averaging a mere dismal 6.33. He picked 3 scalps at an uninspiring average of 43.33.

In the 2019 World Cup, he scored 606 runs along with 11 wickets – statistics that truly highlight his value. Picked by the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2011, he was an important part of their two title-winning sides in 2012 and 2014. The 34-year-old was bought by his former franchise for 3.2 crores in the players’ auction in February 2021.

Shakib Al Hasan Has Been The No. 1 ODI All-Rounder For The Last 10-12 Years: Bangladesh Teammate Mahmudullah

Shakib Al Hasan’s career is laden with numerous milestones from being the youngest centurion in ODIs and becoming the youngest ODI captain, both at the age of 22, to most Player of the Series awards in T20Is (3).

He, without a shred of a doubt, will be remembered as one of the greatest all-rounders in the history of the sport. His exploits for the Bangladesh cricket team have helped his side fight it out with other international teams in the world as he has played an instrumental role in the meteoric rise of Bangladesh cricket.

Shakib Al Hasan’s Return Has Been Uninspiring

However, he hasn’t been near his best lately.

Moreover, he carried the poor form to the ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka. Even his team has already sealed the series after winning the first two games, Shakib Al Hasan’s return has been uninspiring. The 34-year-old has only scored 15 runs in two matches at a strike rate of less than 50.

With the ball, however, he has been better. In the ongoing series in Dhaka, he has picked up three wickets and in IPL 2021, he claimed two. Not highly impressive but he’s been a tad better with the ball.

He missed the 2020 IPL edition on account of being banned for a year for not reporting corrupt offenses.

Shakib Al Hasan has so far played four 50 overs World Cups for Bangladesh since the 2007 edition. While he captained Bangladesh in the 2011 World Cup, the 2019 edition turned out to be individually his most successful one, when he scored 606 runs and picked up 11 wickets. But in spite of Shakib Al Hasan’s outstanding performances both with bat and ball, Bangladesh finished 8th out of 10 teams in the last World Cup in England and Wales.

Shakib Al Hasan Has Been The No. 1 All-Rounder For The Last 10-12 Years : Mahmudullah

As Shakib Al Hasan strives to find his rhythm, his teammate and fellow all-rounder Mahmudullah has come out to support him. While speaking to The Daily Star, he said that Shakib Al Hasan was the best ODI all-rounder for more than a decade for a reason.

“There is not much to say about Shakib. He knows his game. It is no joke that a guy has been the number one [ODI] all-rounder for the last 10-12 years. He knows when to bat and how much batting [practice] will benefit him. He got a good start in the first ODI, but unfortunately, he could not cash in on it. But I am certain that he will play better in tomorrow’s game.”

Bangladesh secured their first-ever ODI series win against Sri Lanka in the second ODI. They would now look to make it three in three and secure 10 more points for their ICC Cricket World Cup Super League tally. Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim was the star performer in both the ODIs, scoring 84 in the 1st and then 125 in the 2nd ODI. Bangladesh won by 33 runs in the 1st ODI and by 103 runs in the 2nd one decided by Duckworth-Lewis.

Bangladesh has attained the pole position in the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League points table with a historic win against Sri Lanka. The Tamim Iqbal-led outfit took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-match series against Sri Lanka. Bangladesh now has 50 points in the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League. Sri Lanka continues to be in the last position with -2 points in five outings.

2nd ODI:- Bangladesh 246 (Rahim 125, Mahmudullah 41, Chameera 3-44) beat Sri Lanka 141-9 (Rahman 3-16, Miraz 3-28) by 103 runs(DLS)

1st ODI:- Bangladesh 257 for 6 (Mushfiqur 84, Mahmudullah 54, Tamim 52, Dhananjaya 3-45) beat Sri Lanka 224 all out (Hasaranga 74, Mehidy Hasan Miraz 4-30) by 33 runs

However, Shiran Fernando didn’t take part in his team’s practice session on Wednesday afternoon at the BCB academy premises as the tourists started their preparation with the focus on avoiding a Bangladesh clean sweep after conceding their maiden ODI series with back to back losses in the opening two games of the ongoing series.

Mushfiqur Rahim hit his eighth ODI century as Bangladesh secured its first ODI series victory over Sri Lanka with a 103-run win by the DLS method in the rain-interrupted second match. In an innings twice halted by rain, the wicket-keeper batsman scored 125 off 127 balls with 10 fours as Bangladesh was bowled out for 246 in 48.1 overs. It was Bangladesh’s first series victory against Sri Lanka across three formats.
Sri Lanka was 126-9 after 38 overs when rain interrupted the game for the third time. Sri Lanka was set a revised target of 245 in 40 overs, meaning it needed 119 runs from the final two overs. The visitors ended on 141-9. Bangladesh won by 33 runs on Sunday in the first of their three-match series. The final match is on Friday.

Mohammad Saifuddin Recovering First From Head Injury And Naim Sheikh Added To Bangladesh Squad For 3rd Dead Rubbber ODI

Meanwhile, BCB officials insisted that Mohammad Saifuddin is recovering fast from the head injury and they are expecting him to be available for the dead rubber Game 3. Mohammad Saifuddin is currently undergoing a 24-hour observation period after being hit on his helmet during the second ODI on Tuesday. He was replaced by pacer Taskin Ahmed after he had shown signs of concussion.

After the incident, he was taken to a city hospital straightway for a routine checkup but no major problem was found in his reports. Bangladesh has also added Naim Sheikh to their squad for the final ODI, to be played on Friday.

Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hasan Confident Of Bio-bubble Arrangement In Bangladesh-Sri Lanka Series

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan has said the home board is confident of the bio-bubble arrangement that is in place for the ongoing 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. Nazmul Hasan’s comment comes after a Sri Lanka player tested positive for Covid-19 in the lead-up to the series opener in Dhaka on Sunday.

Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan stressed that there is no need for panic but promised that Bangladesh Cricket Board will step up the bio-bubble vigilance. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka play 3 ODIs in Dhaka between May 23 and 28. The BCB chief is confident that the remainder of the series will go ahead as scheduled.

Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hasan: Nothing Serious To Panic And There’s A Protocol In Place

The ODI series opener was in question after it emerged on Sunday that 3 members of the touring Sri Lankan party tested positive for Covid-19. However, two of them returned negative results in the second RT-PCR test. The first ODI went ahead as scheduled on Sunday even as the 3 members did not join the rest of the team at the Shere-Bangla National Stadium.

“We are following the protocol and we feel nothing serious happened that we need to panic. It can happen at times (someone testing positive) but there is a protocol in place… what we need to do and how many times we need to do the test to make sure that he is negative,” Hasan said.

“But definitely we will increase our vigilance. He (Shiran Fernando) recovered from Covid very recently, the PCR may have detected the dead RNA from the virus, many individuals have it on them up to 28 days,” he added.

Sri Lanka bowling coach Chaminda Vaas, bowlers Isura Udana and Shiran Fernando have tested positive ahead of Sunday’s first ODI against Bangladesh in Dhaka. Chaminda Vaas and Isuru Udana returned negative results while Shiran Fernando tested positive in the 2nd RT-PCR Test for which the samples were collected on Saturday.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hasan has addressed the COVID-19 positive cases in the Sri Lankan camp on Sunday hours before the first ODI in Dhaka. Though the match went ahead as scheduled, Nazmul Hasan has stressed the need to increase the bubble’s security.

Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan claimed they all followed the protocols and that nothing severe occurred to panic. He feels that, at times, people can test positive for the virus despite abiding by the guidelines; hence, he believes it’s crucial to ensure they carry out the testing abundantly.

Sri Lanka Happy With The Arrangements In Dhaka And Looking Forward To A Good Series: Team Manager

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka team manager Manuja Kariyapperuma also stressed that the tourists are happy with the arrangements in Dhaka and are hopeful of the series continuing without any further issues.

“The facilities offered to us are good, that is more than adequate, and we made use of the facilities that were afforded to us, and looking forward to a very good series,” Kariyapperuma said, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Bangladesh won the first ODI on Sunday 33 runs to go 1-0 up in the 3-match series. Mushfiqur Rahim hit a match-winning 84 as Bangladesh posted 257 for 8 in their quota of 50 overs.

Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh’s ace all-rounder has revealed his wish to go to retirement only after winning the World Cup. And for that to achieve, he might even keep playing till 2027.  Shakib Al Hasan said this during his appearance in Daraz Live chat on Thursday (April 1).

First asked when Bangladesh would win the World Cup, Shakib Al Hasan gave an instant reply, “2023, because it would be my last World Cup.” But once the presenter insisted on what would happen if Bangladesh could not win the next World Cup, he responded: “Then I would keep playing till the 2027 World Cup to win it.”

Shakib Al Hasan Always Want To Win World Cup For Bangladesh And Has Been Part Of 4 World Cups

Shakib Al Hasan’s desire to win the 50 over World Cup with Bangladesh is nothing new. He has said time and again that the biggest achievement of his cricketing career would be to win the World Cup, and he has always targeted the 2023 World Cup to be held in India to finally win it.

If Bangladesh qualified for the semifinals, Shakib Al Hasan could have won the Man of the Tournament award.

Shakib Al Hasan Is In India To Take Part In IPL 2021 For KKR

He is now in India to take part in the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) for Kolkata Knight Riders. He was absent from the ODI and T20I series in New Zealand due to paternity leave, and will also skip the two-Test series in Sri Lanka as he wants to prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup by playing in the IPL. He, however, will return for the ODI series against Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) upheld all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The BCB even thought of reconsidering his NOC for the tournament after the miscommunication between the board and the all-rounder.

Veteran Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is set to return in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the upcoming edition which begins on April 9. He will be back in action after serving a one-year ban and don the Purple & Gold jersey of Kolkata Knight Riders once again.

He was part of KKR’s title-winning campaigns in 2012 and 2014. He had featured in three matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2019 before the ban led to his ouster from the game. Now in his second innings at KKR, he is ready to play any role that his team expects from him in the upcoming season.

The 34-year-old, who was bought by his former franchise for 3.2 crores in the players’ auction in February 2021. The two-time champions will kick-start their IPL 2021 campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Chennai on April 11. Shakib Al Hasan has played 43 IPL games amassing 498 runs averaging 21.65 and picked 43 scalps averaging 25.6 for KKR. He has also played 20 games for SRH.

He missed the 2020 edition on account of being banned for not reporting corrupt offences. He played 63 IPL matches scoring 746 runs at an average of 21.31 with two 50s and a high score of unbeaten 66 and taken 59 wickets averaging 28.

Shakib Al Hasan’s NOC For IPL 2021 Upheld By BCB

Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh’s all-rounder stated that the BCB misinterpreted his letter for prioritizing the IPL and not playing the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) however upheld all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In the last few days, Shakib Al Hasan and BCB cricket operations chairman, Akram Khan, have been at loggerheads after the former chose to play in the upcoming IPL rather than the Test series against Sri Lanka which will start in the middle of IPL 2021.

Shakib Al Hasan Can Take Part In IPL According To NOC: Ismail Halder, BCB Director

In the IPL, Shakib Al Hasan would be representing the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) after being picked for INR 3.2 crores in the auction back in February. The BCB even thought of reconsidering his NOC for the tournament after the miscommunication between the board and the all-rounder.

Ismail Haider, the BCB Director, confirmed Shakib’s participation in the cash-rich league, starting on April 9. “NOC will remain as it is and he can go and take part in IPL,” the BCB Director said, reported by Cricbuzz.

If reports are to be believed, Shakib Al Hasan is set to leave Bangladesh on March 28 to join his KKR teammates. The Magura-born has to undergo a seven-day quarantine period before joining his mates. The NOC is only valid until May 18 and he is expected to return for the Sri Lanka ODIs.

Shakib Al Hasan Wanted To Play In The IPL To Prepare For T20I World Cup

Earlier, Shakib Al Hasan cleared his stance, saying that he picked the IPL over the Tests in order to prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup in India. The veteran mentioned that he wanted to garner enough experience which he will share with his national teammates.

“Continuously people are talking about this Test. The people who are saying that I will no longer play the Test or don’t want to play the Test haven’t read my letter properly and that is it,” Shakib said.

“I did not mention anywhere in my letter that I do not want to play Tests. I mentioned in my letter that I want to play in the IPL to prepare myself properly for World Cup (T20 World Cup) but despite that Akram Bhai has repeatedly said that I do not want to play Tests,” he added.
