WWE RAW – Dominik Mysterio Shares Funny Story About His Custody Storyline In 2005

Former WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champion Dominik Mysterio who is the son of the legendary professional wrestler Rey Mysterio recently shared a funny story about his custody storyline from 2005. He said that he was also involved in the storyline that he thought if Eddie Guerrero won the match he would have to go to his house forever.

The Custody of Dominik storyline is considered as one of the most weird storylines in history of professional wrestling. There was a long running feud between Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio going on. The feud started on WrestleMania 21 and it continued till the end of SummerSlam. It was not all about the custody storyline but it came into existence before SummerSlam.

WWE RAW – Dominik Mysterio Shares Funny Story About His Custody Storyline In 2005

Eddie Guerrero claimed that Dominik was actually his son who was being brought up by Rey Mysterio. As a part of the storyline Eddie wanted his custody back and Rey refused to give it back. Therefore a match was booked between the duo at SummerSlam and the custody of Dominik was on the line, and it was a ladder match. Needless to say it was all storyline, and there is no reality in it. But the storyline was quite weird. Such storylines are nearly impossible to see these days.

It would not have been remembered very much, and it was not either. Neither by the fans not WWE itself. But it is again being talked about after Dominik Mysterio came back to WWE as a professional wrestler just a number of years ago. He was only 8 years old during the custody storyline in 2005. It also shows one thing, back in the time WWE tried different things. But nowadays there is no variety in storylines, unfortunately.

Dominik Mysterio who is the son of the legendary professional wrestler Rey Mysterio recently said that he was also involved in the storyline that he thought if Eddie Guerrero won the match he would have to go to his house forever. He said;

“It was crazy being a kid and being on TV. I think the most exciting part about all of that was being away from school. I was in the third grade and the last thing I wanted to do was be in school. I was getting to travel with dad and ride tricycles all around the arena so why would I want to be in school? I would come back to school and all the teachers would be curious on what my home life was like because they didn’t know if my dad was my dad or Eddie was my dad or if there was this actual custody battle for me.”

“Some of the teachers had to pull my mom aside or my dad aside when they’d come pick me up and ask them what’s the deal because they didn’t think it was healthy. Overall I think the kids were curious too like who my dad was but I had to tell them I’m pretty sure my dad is Rey Mysterio. They even had me hooked at one point like what’s going on here.”

“I don’t think I thought about it but I thought I would eventually go home with Eddie if he won. I genuinely thought I’d probably end up going home with him because I remember them telling me they wanted to do this storyline and my dad pitched it to me and I was all on board with it but I remember asking after like what’s going to happen afterwards. I remember thinking as a kid like what if my dad doesn’t win and I have to go home with Eddie? I never actually asked that but I thought about it. Personally, I would sit there and think about it.”

WWE RAW – Dominik Mysterio Looks Back At His Custody Match

Former WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champion Dominik Mysterio who is also the son of the legendary professional wrestler Rey Mysterio recently looked back at his custody match between Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio back in Summerslam 2005.

Dominic Mysterio started his professional wrestling career back in 2019. He was introduced as a professional wrestler to the world of professional wrestling to the story line between Brock Lesnar and Rey Mysterio in 2019. Since the very first day of joining WWE, he has shown high potential. He is very young and clearly he has a bright future in WWE.

But he was not introduced to the world of professional wrestling through the mentioned story line. He first appeared way back in 2005 when he was only 8 years old. He featured as a part of the story line between Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio in 2005. At SummerSlam of the mentioned year the two legends of professional wrestling fought in a ladder match where the custody of Dominik was on the line.

Since joining WWE as a professional wrestler he has been very impressive. Recently he won the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship along with his father Rey Mysterio become the first ever father and son Tag Team Champion in the history of WWE.

But meanwhile they have dropped the titles to the Usos. During the draft of this year, he has been drafted to Monday Night RAW along with his father. He definitely has a great future lying ahead of him.

Dominik Mysterio who is also the son of the legendary professional wrestler Rey Mysterio recently spoke on D-Von Dudley’s Table Talk podcast where he looked back at his custody match between Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio back in Summerslam 2005. He said;

“There’s certain things that I remember [about being involved on WWE programming as a child] like after the SummerSlam match [Rey Mysterio vs. Eddie Guerrero], there was a missed time cue there and I remember going in the back and Eddie was just losing it. He was just freaking out and I remember I asked my dad, I was like, ‘Yo, is he good?’

“I was like, ‘Is he angry because I’m not going home with him?’ That’s what I was thinking. I thought he was actually angry because he lost and I couldn’t go home with him. I was like, ‘I guess I’m pretty cool.’ But everything was just super, super straightforward and like I said, I think they just wanted a scared eight-year-old, seven-year-old kid and I was actually scared so it worked out perfectly.”

A Look Back At The Infamous Custody Of Dominik Storyline

The Custody of Dominik storyline came into existence back in 2005. It is considered as one of the weirdest storylines in WWE history, even though it was pretty fun and interesting to watch.

After losing to Rey Mysterio at the Great American Bash pay per view event of 2005 Eddie Guerrero revealed that he was the biological father of Dominick. The claim went too far that Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero fought in a Ladder Match at SummerSlam of the same year, and the custody of Dominick was on the line.

A Look Back At The Custody Of Dominik Storyline

Even though it was all kayfabe, and Eddie Guerrero is not the father of Dominik. It is the same Dominick who is the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champion along with Rey Mysterio today. He was only 8 year old back then.

It may seem a little weird but it is also an example of the storylines of that time. WWE used to try different things back then. Definitely there were some bad storylines like the Katie Vick angle or Kane impregnating Lita storylines but there were some amazing storylines as well. At least WWE tried to keep their audience entertained unlike nowadays they take fans as liabilities where fans have to watch whatever they come up with.

Dominik

Every ongoing feud used to have back stories back in those days. Sometimes they were personal and sometimes they remained strict to wrestling storylines. Moreover there is nothing meaningless back in those days.

Unlike now, when almost none of the feuds have any kind of storylines. It is reported that every time the creative team pitches a storyline idea Vince McMahon cancels most of them. This is one of the biggest reasons why WWE you’ve lacking good storylines these days as per reports.

The Custody of Dominik storyline received mixed reaction from the fans and the critics. Some believed it was a great storyline and some believed it was not a good storyline for a professional wrestling show.

Dominik

One of the biggest reasons the storyline faced major criticism was the back to back defeats of Eddie Guerrero to Rey Mysterio. Eddie started to lose to Rey from WrestleMania 21 and kept losing all matches till SummerSlam of the same year. It was not a good look for Eddie’s career back in the time.

We hope to see more storylines like this more often in WWE. Without good storylines professional wrestling does not seen that interesting anymore. And with the time the WWE is going through right now, only good storylines can save them.

Vickie Guerrero Remembers The Custody Of Dominick Storyline

Former WWE star Vickie Guerrero recently talked about the custody of Dominick storyline. It was the same storyline that introduced the wrestling world with Vickie Guerrero as well.

Vickie Guerrero recently remembered this storyline and she talked about how Dominick managed to work in this storyline. Here is what she had to say about this topic;

“He was such a natural, just like you know with my girls they were all involved with the wrestling product every Monday and Friday you know we’re all watching wrestling so the kids, Dominic and my girls. It was very easy for them to follow the storylines especially when Rey and Eddie were performing.

“We just kind of followed suit to enjoy the storyline so Dominic was – he was incredibly talented. He shows today how far he’s been, succeeding in the wrestling industry. So to see him become this great character on his own, I had no doubts about that because I just saw him as a kid, he wasn’t scared of the camera and kept all the direction really well.

“I think that’s just something that was just really easy for him and I’m really proud of him and he taught me a lot and we were all learning together. To see how he’s grown, is just incredibly fascinating to me.”

Vickie Guerrero Talks Life With Eddie

Former WWE star Vickie Guerrero recently talked about her life with her late great husband Eddie Guerrero. Vickie Guerrero was a very common name in WWE for quite a long time. Her annoying heel persona was really loved by the fans.

Her first television appearance was back in 2005 as a part of the custody of Dominick storyline. She was not a permanent worker in WWE in that time, she was given a chance to work just as a part of the mentioned storyline. After the death of Eddie, she started working in WWE on a permanent basis.

Even though she started her career as a babyface, she is most remembered for her heel role for the promotion. She was extremely annoying with her “Excuse Me” catchphrase and this is what she was most famous for.

She was most remembered for her storyline with Edge in the late 2010s. She left WWE in 2013. She was praised by the critics for her excellent work in WWE as well. Dave Meltzer listed her Best Non Wrestler of the Year for two consecutive years (2009-2010). She is currently a part of the All Elite Wrestling.

Recently Eddie Guerrero appeared as a guest on It’s Our House podcast where she talked about her life with Eddie Guerrero. She said;

“I always say it was chaos and never a dull moment. Performing with Eddie was very comforting to me because he was always taking care of me in the ring and whether it’s backstage or whatever we had to do with Rey and Dominic, I wasn’t scared at all because I had Eddie by my side.

“Then when Eddie passed and I came back to work with Chris Benoit, Rey Mysterio, Chris Jericho and and all the great guys in WWE It was very terrifying for me. But I think just by watching Eddie for so many years and watching the product and being a fan of wrestling, I guess I kind of grew accustomed to what I thought Vickie Guerrero should be.

“So the easiest way was to be a b***h, which every woman can have their own way, and me being the older woman coming in into WWE when I did, I was the older one compared to some of the superstars I was working with so to have that cougar character. It all just fit together, and I loved it.

“I mean it took a long time for me to know who Vickie Guerrero the character was and what I was supposed to be doing, but I just had to. Dusty Rhodes is the one who said, just be me and don’t do anything that I wouldn’t do on my own, you know, which made a lot of sense. So, when they gave me something to do or to read, I had to make sure that that was what Vickie Guerrero would say, and that was a lot easier for me because I just had to be real.”

Eddie Guerrero’s Daughter Says WWE Always Pressurized Her

One of the idols of the current WWE locker room is the late great Eddie Guerrero who left his mark in the professional wrestling circuit, deeply. If not for the sudden death in 2005, he could have carried the legacy, far brighter. In his absence, the pressure came down to his wife and daughter.

For those who don’t know, Eddie Guerrero was found dead in a hotel room at the time when he was at the peak of his career in the WWE. He was allegedly overdosed with drugs, as per the investigations after which WWE made their Wellness Policy, strict.

The Guerrero family was going through a tough phase as their financial condition wasn’t that good. Vince McMahon decided to help them out and he offered spots to both Eddie’s wife and daughter to his company.

Vickie Guerrero started her career on the main roster as a manager for various superstars as well as for SmackDown whereas her daughter Shaul Guerrero was placed in FCW. (NXT’s earlier version where bright talents were nurtured) Apparently, Shaul was being forced to live up to the legacy left by her father, Eddie Guerrero.

Eddie Guerrero’s Daughter Says WWE Always Pressurized Her

Shaul was a guest on a recent edition of the “Excuse Me” podcast hosted by her mother, Vickie Guerrero. She discussed her time in WWE’s development brand FCW where the management always wanted her to be like Eddie Guerrero. This put a bigger chip on her shoulder as she could never break into the scene.

“I want to say he would be proud. Then I feel that there was so much pressure put on me when I was in FCW to be as good as you (Vickie) and as good as Dad and that was a lot. That was a lot on me. The fact that I had to earn my name that I already had? I understood where they were coming from that they don’t want to call you by your name because if you suck we don’t want you to be a disappointment.

That happened to me about two months in. I was like holy sh*t. You (Vickie) never put pressure on me. I don’t think the family meant to put pressure on me but, there was pressure put on me about my body. I needed to look more feminine. Basically, I needed to be the ideal Diva.”

Eddie Guerrero’s Daughter Says WWE Always Pressurized Her 2

Shaul allegedly wanted to keep her father’s legacy in her own way and not by what WWE wanted. So it does make a sense why she didn’t make it to the big leagues. While Eddie Guerrero’s wife had a solid career in the WWE, she is currently in bad terms with them after signing a contract with All Elite Wrestling. Even Shaul also made her AEW debut recently as an announcer for the Women’s Tag Team tournament.

Usually, WWE superstars are bigger in size in comparison to normal people. Years of training, make them look stronger and sharper by physique whereas some are genetically bigger. But the rule does not apply for everybody, certainly for those who are the shortest WWE superstars. Names with short heights do exist and that doesn’t stop them from getting success.

Especially in today’s WWE, performance is the one-and-only mantra of success moving on from Vince McMahon’s earlier favoritism to the taller superstars. In this article, we’d take a look at those so-called smaller athletes in WWE who were able to leave their mark in pro-wrestling despite the obstacles. A few of them even became world champions, as well. Here are the top 10 shortest WWE superstars of all-time.

TAJIRI – 5 FT 9 IN

The list of shortest WWE superstars begins with veteran Tajiri who already had a career in Japan before moving into WWE for a run that continued from 2001 to 2006. Although he was able to put on great matches with opponents, the immensely bigger WWE roster didn’t allow him to get enough opportunities. The Japanese Buzzsaw still had a run with Cruiserweight title who came back on the same capacity in 2017. But he wasn’t utilized much after the Cruiserweight Classic tournament and this one appeared to be a forgettable run.

Rey Mysterio Open To Do Hair Vs. Mask Match At WWE WrestleMania 36

Rey Mysterio recently had a sitdown with TV Insider and noted on his rivalry with WWE United States Champion Andrade. These two Mexican names have been going up against each other delivering classics which is what expected from two highly agile Lucha Libre athletes. The Master of 619 praised Andrade as an in-ring performer who is considered to be the future of WWE. So Rey Mysterio would love to put him over as much as possible before he hangs up his boots. In a recently shown angle on WWE Raw, Andrade snatched Rey’s mask off during a post-match session which fuelled up the rumors of Mask vs. Title or Mask vs. Hair matchup.

Previously the reports suggested that one such gimmick match could be in the works for the bygone Royal Rumble pay-per-view event involving Rey Mysterio and Andrade. But that was not the case as Humberto Carrillo was inserted into the storyline as Rey failed to capture the United States Title just six nights before the Rumble.

However, Rey Mysterio is still willing to do the Hair vs. Mask gimmick match that could be set up at WrestleMania 36. Rey told TV Insider that he is ready to participate in the match at WrestleMania 36, which would be a huge stepping stone for them, regardless of the winner. Here’s more from the Lucha Libre legend,

“I think something along the ways that if he wants to keep feuding and going a step further, I’m willing to put my mask on the line versus his hair for a WrestleMania moment,” Rey Mysterio revealed. “Whatever the case might be, whoever ends up winning, I think it would be a huge stepping stone for either of us.”

The high-flying athlete added how Andrade always reminds him of the late great Eddie Guerrero while being in the ring. Rey Mysterio and Guerrero had an illustrious history together where they have feuded, and teamed, for years. Starting from the late 90s followed by their WCW days, and in WWE, they went on to create several memorable moments before Eddie passed away on November 13, 2005, at the age of 38.

WWE News: Rey Mysterio Visits Eddie Guerrero’s Graveyard For The First Time

One of the most devastating incidents happened in the WWE in the form of Eddie Guerrero’s death. There has not been a superstar quite like him who can entertain the fans. He is perhaps the greatest import that Mexico has ever seen in the entire pro-wrestling industry. We can say that even considering the name of Rey Mysterio who was a great friend of his belonging to the same country.

Wrestling Universe paid tribute to Eddie Guerrero

Over the years, Eddie Guerrero has been a true inspiration to many of the current WWE superstars. He was one of the legends that they grew up watching and always remain humble to his name. Rey Mysterio is one of those names whose entire career can be called a tribute to the superstar who passed away in 2005. So the bond between the two is still very much present.

We have seen the proof once again as Rey Mysterio recently visited the graveyard of Eddie Guerrero. Thirteen years have passed by since the shocking death of one of wrestling’s greatest performers. The Master of 619 always wanted to give a visit to this place where Viva La Raza is lying in eternal peace. Finally one of his best friends has been able to pay a visit to him.

Always had a hard time wanting to visit Eddie & found myself cowardly refusing it due to the pain & memories from that day………Finally this past Monday, after 13yrs, I had the courage to visit him and have a one on one moment with him…. & …….exactly what I feared of happening, happened. Memories from that day were flashing through my head but his presence was much stronger and was able to cope and maintain my composure. After my conversation & connection with him I left with a Huge internal Smile and felt a soothing & peaceful ♥️! Eddie has been such an inspiration not only to me but to many & will always continue to do so. I witnessed that day, that future wrestlers who never had the opportunity to meet him took the time to stop by and pay their respects wishing they would of had the honor and privilege to have met him & been around him like many of us did! I truly miss you WeeWeeto! #YouWill4EverLiveInOur?’s #WeLoveYou

It is really great to see Rey Mysterio having so much honor left inside him for the fellow Mexican. Be it capturing the tag team gold or arch-nemesis, these two always created magic inside the ring. They delivered one of the best personal rivalries in the year 2005 before Eddie Guerrero passed away. Later, Rey went on to dedicate his 2006 Royal Rumble win to this great wrestler.
