ENG vs IND, 2018: Kuldeep Yadav Hopeful of Test Call After Brilliant Show

India’s chinaman spinner Kuldeep Yadav is hopeful to don the white jersey after his brilliant show against England in the United Kingdom (UK). Kuldeep was right on the money in the first One-Dayer against England in Nottingham.

In fact, Kuldeep scalped his best figures in the 50-over format scalping six for 25 in his ten-over quota.

The mystery spinner Kuldeep was able to wreak havoc in the English batting line up as the Three Lions batsmen once again failed to pick him up.

In fact, England had got off to a good start and a score of 350 was on the cards. However, Kuldeep was able to put a nip in the bud as he took three early wickets in his first spell to put England on the backfoot.

Meanwhile, after his brilliant show in the Twenty20 International series and during the ODI opener, Kuldeep sets his eye on the Test berth.

However, the conditions are getting drier in England. Thus, the wrist spinner can be a great asset for Team India.

Kuldeep said after his match-winning spell, “I bowled wicket to wicket and tried to vary my pace,” he said. “Talking about Test cricket, I am hoping for the call and let’s see what happens in a couple days when they announce the Test team.”

Meanwhile, it is expected that Kuldeep Yadav will get a call into the Test squad given his current form.

Furthermore, Indian skipper also believes it would be a right time to include Uttar Pradesh-based bowler in the Test squad.

Last year, the wicket-taking bowler had made his Test debut against Australia. He had scalped four wickets in the first innings while playing at picturesque Dharamshala stadium.

“For me, it is a big day. I started off well in the first few overs. Luckily I got a couple of wickets in the first two overs. For me, it does not matter if the ground is small. Initially, I thought there was a lot of turn and after the first over, I knew I was in the game,” he smiled.

It was a dominating display from the Indian team. But, Rohit Sharma guided the team home as he scored his 18th ODI hundred. India will look to seal the series when they will meet England in the second ODI on Saturday (June 14).

ENG vs IND, 2018: Michael Vaughan Predicts 2-1 Scoreline in Favour of England in ODI Series

The battle of the top two teams in the 50-overs format got underway at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Thursday (June 12).

The Men in Blue after winning the Twenty20 International series by a 2-1 margin will be hoping for yet another series victory in the limited-overs format. They have played some terrific brand of cricket, especially in the white-ball format.

Their batters are in terrific form barring Shikhar Dhawan. However, Kohli is expected to bat at number four spot to accommodate KL Rahul at the number three slot.

Rahul looked in great touch during the opening T20I where he smashed a superb unbeaten century – to help India get off to a winning note.

Skipper Virat Kohli dropped down himself to number four might well turn out to be a blessing in disguise for the visitors.

The middle-order looks solid in the presence of Kohli, and the move might be crucial for India in the 2019 ICC World Cup.

Vaughan makes his predictions for the series:

Ahead of the opening ODI between India and England at Nottingham, former English skipper Michael Vaughan made his prediction for the series.

Former batsman Vaughan picked England to be the likely winners of the series by a 2-1 margin. Vaughan feels Jonny Bairstow and Liam Plunkett will be the leading batsmen and bowler for the home side.

Bairstow has been in sensational form in the ODI series against Australia. Plunkett, on the other hand, had performed well in patches. However, the consistency hasn’t been there.

From India, Vaughan picked Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya to be the leading performers with the bat and ball for the visiting side.

Rohit was short of runs during the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was dismissed without bothering the scorers much in the first two matches.

However, he smashed a brilliant century in the deciding clash at Bristol. He became only the second batsman after New Zealand’s Colin Munro to smash three T20I centuries.

Pandya has been an asset for India across formats. His all-round skills have given the stability to the Indian side. Pandya bagged four wickets in the deciding T20I. It was instrumental in preventing England from scoring beyond the 200 mark.

ENG vs IND 2018: Sourav Ganguly Backs India to Win ODI Series in England

Former India skipper, Sourav Ganguly has backed India to win the ODI series in England. India was able to win the T20I series against England of late.

Ganguly believes India has got a balanced side which can help them in savouring success in English conditions.

Meanwhile, India had ticked the right boxes in the shortest format of the game. Thus, they would like to repeat their performance in the 50-overs format.

In fact, it is expected the One-Day series is going to bring a fine contest as it is going to be 1st rank vs 2nd rank team.

“England is a good side, they are a very good batting unit. But bowling is the weaker part of their game. India will fancy their chances against this English team (after) the way they won yesterday (Sunday), chasing 200,” Ganguly said at his book launch.

Ganguly added a lot of good Indian teams had done well in the England conditions. In fact, the Prince of Kolkata believes this Indian team can win in England.

“A lot of good Indian sides have been tested in England and some of the better ones have done well here and won before. I think this Indian team can be like that, they can definitely win here this summer. Definitely the ODIs and possibly the Tests too,” Ganguly said.

Matchpreview: Kohli may bat at No 4 as India start as favourites against England

The former southpaw batsman went on to add Indian team is a batting heavyweight. In fact, Ganguly said Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan could better his and Tendulkar partnership records.

“It is one of the most talented batting units in limited-overs in world cricket at the moment. The top-order is brilliant with Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma, and if they continue to score more runs at the top, they can challenge my partnership records with Sachin Tendulkar soon”.

Meanwhile, India has played a musical chair game with the number four batting position. However, Ganguly believes India skipper Virat Kohli should take up the spot to end the Indian dilemma. In fact, Kohli has done a great job while batting at one down and he is unlikely to demote himself in the batting order.

Kohli has been batting at No. 4, he is doing the right thing. That’s what he is going to do (going ahead),” Dada opined.

ENG vs IND 2018, 3rd T20I: Virat Kohli Credits his Bowlers for Staging an Outstanding Comeback

Indian Cricket Team skipper, Virat Kohli credited his bowlers for staging a fantastic comeback in the second half of the England innings in the third and final T20I at Bristol on Sunday.

Meanwhile, India clinched the series beating hosts by seven wickets in a record chase. With the series tied at 1-1 at the start of the game, everything was at stake. However, the visitors made an outstanding comeback to chase down a mammoth total.

Rohit Sharma was spectacular with the bat bringing his third T20I century after Colin Munro. Kohli chipped in with 43 runs while Pandya remained on 33 runs to overhaul the target.

Previously, Jos Buttler and Jason Roy provided a brilliant start hammering the ball over the park. Roy went all guns blazing hitting the deliveries over the short boundary at ease. Jos Buttler was not too behind smashing seven fours in his knock of 34.

Meanwhile, an amazing comeback by the Indian bowlers ensured the target doesn’t go out of hand. While Pandya returned with four wickets, Kaul impressed the most. They picked wickets at regular intervals to keep the run-rate in check.

As a result, Kohli lauded his bowlers at the post-match presentation ceremony. He noted the bowlers applied themselves brilliant to keep themselves in the game.

The comeback from the bowlers was outstanding,” he said. “At one stage we thought they’d end up getting 225-230 which would’ve been tough. But the character they showed, that’s something we’re very proud of. Just hit our areas better I guess (in the second ten overs). We have the quality to bowl wicket-taking deliveries as well. Applied decent pressure on the batsmen and pulled the game back nicely. 25-30 runs in this format can be massive,” he added.

Pandya is a really good all-rounder

Kohli also lauded his premier all-rounder Pandya, who was impressive with both bat and ball. He played an unbeaten cameo of 33 runs from 14 balls after returning with four wickets with the ball.

Pandya is a really good all-round cricketer. He’s confident with his skills with bat and ball. He’s sure of what he wants to do. With the ball, the way he picked up those wickets after getting hit for boundaries and sixes. His all-round performance was standout today. Was difficult for the bowlers,” Kohli concluded.

Sourav Ganguly feels Indian batsmen need to score more to give Kuldeep, Chahal a chance in the game.

India Should Score Big for Kuldeep and Chahal to Make an Impact – Sourav Ganguly

The former India skipper, Sourav Ganguly believes India should put a big score for their wrist spinners to come into the match.

India was 15-20 runs short in the last game against England in Cardiff. Thus, the former captain said the spin battery of Kuldeep and Chahal needs a cushion of some more runs.

India had put a paltry score of 148 in the second T20I. Therefore, Ganguly believes it was never going to be enough against the potent England batting line-up.

Furthermore, the English batsmen did their homework against Indian wrist spinners. They took 64 runs from their eight overs and targeted other bowlers.

“They didn’t make enough runs. You cannot win a match by posting a score of 148. England bowled well, the surface was different from Manchester, as there was more grass and it carried a lot of pace, which played to England’s advantage. Kuldeep and Chahal leaked 64 runs and that’s why they won. You expect England to make a comeback in England. It’s a challenging series, the fight will be worth it and surely the same can be expected in the ODIs,” Ganguly told IndiaTV.

Ganguly went on to add Shikhar Dhawan’s run-out was the turning point in the previous match. The visitors lost three quick wickets. Consequently, Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina had to do the rebuilding process.

“It’s a T20 match. You have to play shots to score runs. Shikhar Dhawan’s run-out was the turning point of the match. He plays well in these conditions but he should have returned to the crease. After losing three early wickets, India felt the pressure cause Kohli and Raina had to rebuild. As I said, England bowled well. Plunkett had a poor show at Manchester but returned the favors at Cardiff. Willey is an asset for England as he can bat and bowl. It was a good comeback by England. They improved their game as they could tackle Kuldeep and Chahal.”

Meanwhile, India’s limited-overs deputy, Rohit Sharma hasn’t able to hit the ground running with his performances in England.

However, Ganguly is hopeful the India opener will get back to his form in the coming matches.

“It’s been a slow start for him in this series. He’s a good player no doubt as he has scored in these conditions such as the Champions Trophy and the last time India toured England. He’ll slowly find his rhythm. I’m not worried about him and the rest of the Indian batsman. It was a day when England played better than India.”

India will like to make a strong comeback after losing the second T20I. The series decider will be played on Sunday at Bristol.

England and India would face off in the 3rd T20I at Bristol for the series-decider.

ENG vs IND 2018, 3rd T20I – Preview: Men in Blue Hopes to Continue Unbeaten Run in Bristol

Team India started off their campaign in England with a resounding victory in the opening T20I at Old Trafford. Riding on a brilliant piece of bowling by Kuldeep Yadav, India managed to restrict England to a manageable score of 159 runs.

Kuldeep became the 1st ever left-arm wrist spinner to bag a five-wicket haul in international cricket in England. KL Rahul then smacked a breathtaking century which ensured India reached the target with nearly two overs to spare.

He carried on from where he left in the IPL and during the lone match against Ireland. Rahul thrashed the English bowlers all around the park and looked in total command of proceedings. His unbeaten knock of 101 off 54 deliveries studded with ten fours and five hits over the fence. The English bowlers were pretty ordinary and couldn’t quite stall the Indian run flow.

However, the home team bounced back quite strongly in the 2nd T20I by winning the clash by five wickets and with a couple of deliveries to spare.

The victory was built mainly around some exceptional bowling performance by Liam Plunkett and David Willey. With the bat in hand, it was Alex Hales who played a stunning knock of 58 runs which eventually sealed the match for the home team.

England batted Kuldeep quite well in the 2nd T20I

England played Kuldeep with caution and in his final over, as Jonny Bairstow smashed him for a couple of sixes which proved to be a killer punch for the hosts.

The two sixes helped England reduce the target to 23 of the final three overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled a sensational 18th over conceding just three runs.

However, Alex Hales struck an important boundary off Umesh Yadav. Hales eventually smashed a six of the first delivery off the final over and added a four to eventually finish the match.

Batting against the wrist spinners will be crucial for England, as the series progresses. The way they applied themselves and played to their strengths against Kuldeep showed they are ready to take the fight to their opposition. Yuzvendra Chahal bowled well, but the English batters played him out and conceded just a wicket to him.

The Men in Blue should be confident of winning the series especially after putting up an energetic show in the opening encounter.

Rahul should try to build his innings rather than going for extravagant shots from the outset. They will look to play to their potentials and try to clinch the series today.

Team Combinations

The home team won’t change with their winning combination. Jake Ball will continue to be part of the playing XI for the decider.

Predicted XI: Jos Buttler (wk), Jason Roy, Alex Hales, Joe Root/Ben Stokes, Eoin Morgan (c), Jonny Bairstow, Adil Rashid, Liam Plunkett, David Willey, Chris Jordan, Jake Ball

END VS IND 2nd T20I: India look to wrap up early series win

The visitors are unlikely to change with their combination despite the defeat in the previous game. Some of the experiments which they have been doing should continue.

Predicted XI: Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli (c), MS Dhoni (wk), Suresh Raina, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav

Stats and Trivia

Dhoni guides India to 148/5 against England

Rohit Sharma is just 14 runs away from amassing 2,000 runs in T20I cricket. Only Virat Kohli had achieved the feat among Indian players.

If India loses the final T20I, it will be the first time India will lose a three-match bilateral T20I series. The Men in Blue have a 7-0 record in three-match bilateral T20I series.

They have never lost a final match of the series when it comes to the shortest format.

38 more runs between Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma will ensure that the pair gets past the record of David Warner and Shane Watson, as the most successful pair in the shortest format.

India had never played a T20I in Bristol. However, they have won all the three ODI matches they have played at the County Ground in Bristol.

ENG vs IND 2018: Jasprit Bumrah Ruled out of ODI Series; Shardul Thakur Named Replacement

In what comes as another big blow to Team India, speedster Jasprit Bumrah got ruled of the three-match ODI series against England.

Bumrah who got sidelined from the ongoing T20I series hasn’t fully recovered from his injury. Given his impact especially in the shorter formats, his absence will leave a huge void in the bowling department.

Bumrah sustained a fracture to his left thumb ahead of the opening T20I against England. He failed to recuperate from the injury on time and hence got ruled out of the ODI series.

Meanwhile, Shardul Thakur has been announced his replacement for the ODI series. It will be a big opportunity for Shardul to step on to the occasion. However, he might not be part of the playing XI.

Bumrah to prove his fitness again ahead of the Test series

Bumrah will again prove his fitness ahead of the five-match Test series which is slated to begin from 1st August.

With more than 20 days left for the series to start, Bumrah is expected to recover for the red ball format. All-rounder Washington Sundar also got ruled out of the limited-overs series earlier. He sustained an injury during a training session when the team was playing football.

Deepak Chahar who has been quite impressive for India A and Chennai Super Kings in the IPL was called up as a replacement for Bumrah in the shortest format.

As a replacement for Sundar, Krunal Pandya was brought in for the T20I squad.

India played a scintillating brand of cricket in the opening T20I and thrashed the hosts by eight wickets. Kuldeep Yadav proved his mettle in his very first match on the English soil. The left-arm chinaman bowler bamboozled the England batting line-up with his exceptional variations and ended up bagging five wickets.

KL Rahul was the star with the bat, as he smashed his 2nd T20I century and remained unbeaten on 101 off 54 deliveries.

England vs India 2018, 2nd T20I, Cardiff – Preview

England will square off with India in the second T20I at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff on Friday.

After losing the first game, the hosts will aim to come hard at the visitors to keep breathing in the series. Eoin Morgan-led team had played some outstanding cricket in the recent past. Thus, one loss should not dent their confidence.

On the other hand, it would be a perfect opportunity for the Indian team to seal the series. The tourists had ticked the right boxes in the first T20I.

Therefore, they would like to repeat their performance against the England juggernauts.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav were the architects of India’s win. Consequently, both these talented players have given a shot in the arm to the Indian team.

England will aim to strike their counter punch.

England wasn’t prepared for the wrist spin challenge, and thus they had floundered against Kuldeep Yadav. Subsequently, there is no doubt that the English batsmen are going to be more cautious in their approach.

The host’s batsmen have done their homework by using Merlyn. Well, Merlyn is a spin bowling machine used by England think-tank to counter Indian wrist spin.

Thus, they are expected to fare out better in their second arduous examination against Indian wrist spin.

India will aim to bag the T20I series.

Therefore, Kuldeep Yadav will like to unveil some new arrows in his quiver to get the better of English batsmen. The chinaman spinner had made the most of the conditions in Old Trafford. Furthermore, both Chahal and Kuldeep will be licking their lips, as another dry surface can be on offer at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul was able to grab his chance with both hands. It was a crucial knock for the flamboyant batsman. Ergo, it must have added to his confidence bag. Rahul focussed his energy on timing the ball, and he was able to borne fruits.

However, Men in Blue will know that England is going to hit back hard at them after taking the first blow in the series. Thus, the Virat Kohli men will like to be at the top of their game. Furthermore, they can not afford to get complacent against the potent English side.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar had proved to be expensive in the last match. Therefore, India will hope their pack leader returns to form in the second T20I.

Venue: Sophia Gardens, Cardiff.

Date and Time: July 6, 2018, 5:30 PM local time (10: 00 pm IST).

Pitch Conditions: The average score at Cardiff is 145. However, with two batting heavyweights, it is expected to be a run-fest. Dry conditions will aid the spinners of both teams.

Weather Conditions: The temperature is going to stay around 20-degree Celsius. Therefore, the clear skies are expected to greet the players. Thus, there is no forecast of rain playing a spoilsport.

India’s Predicted Playing XI:  Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli (c), MS Dhoni (w), Suresh Raina, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav.

England’s Predicted Playing XI: Jos Buttler (w), Jason Roy, Joe Root, Alex Hales, Eoin Morgan (c), Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid, Liam Plunkett, David Willey, Chris Jordan.

England vs India 2018, 1st T20I – Live Score, Scorecard and Commentary

The much-awaited T20I series between India and England will get underway on Tuesday at Old Trafford.

With both the teams arguably being the best in limited-overs at the moment, there is no denying the upcoming series is the enticing part of this season’s schedule.

Both the teams will enter the contest high on confidence. India warmed up for the series in style by thrashing Ireland in the two-T20 series. In both the games, they scored 200-plus totals before the bowlers made light work of Ireland’s batsmen. On the other hand, England dismantled Australia in their last limited-overs assignment.

England batsmen massacred the Australian bowlers in the series. In five games, they scored 300-plus total on three occasions. The two times they missed out was because they were chasing 200-plus totals. In the third ODI, they had scored a staggering 481 for six – the highest-ever total in the ODI history. They had also dominated the one-off T20, scoring 221 before restricting Australia to 193.

Rohit Sharma has passed the yo-yo test and he is cleared to travel for the UK tour.

Rohit Sharma Clears Yo-yo Test, Will Play in Ireland and England Series

Team India opener, Rohit Sharma has cleared the yo-yo test with flying colours and will be seen in action in Ireland and England for the limited overs series.

The vice-captain of the limited-overs team, Sharma had failed the yo-yo test twice during the Indian Premier League. Hence vice-captain in Tests, Ajinkya Rahane was kept as a potential standby if Rohit fails to clear the yo-yo test on Wednesday.

It will be a huge relief for India, as Rohit is an integral part of the Indian limited-overs side. His contribution ever since being elevated as an opener during the Champions Trophy in 2013.

He has been one of the most consistent batsmen for India in the limited-overs format. Over the last 4-5 years, Rohit Sharma has batted quite superbly. It would have been a shame had he not passed the yo-yo test.

Recently it was Suresh Raina who replaced Ambati Rayudu in the ODI side. The latter had made a return to the ODI squad after a brilliant season with the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.

However, Rayudu was withdrawn immediately after he failed to pass the yo-yo test. It was a big blow to Rayudu who worked hard to make a national comeback.

Meanwhile coming back to Rohit, he wasn’t in the best of touches during the IPL. For the first time in the tournament, he failed to notch up more than 300 runs in a single season. His performance also reflected in his team’s performance.

The Champions of the 2017 edition failed to make it to the playoffs. They got eliminated after losing their last group game against the Delhi Daredevils. Had they won that match, Mumbai would have still qualified for the playoffs.

Rohit will surely look to make amends in Ireland and England after passing the yo-yo test. He will be an integral member of the Indian team for the World Cup next year. Hence the limited-overs series will be quite important for not only Rohit but the whole Indian team.
