Lionel Messi Achieves Historical Record after Super Cup Win over Sevilla

Despite conceding a goal early, FC Barcelona pegged back two in the nets to clinch the Super Cup title against Sevilla on Sunday. With that, Lionel Messi won his first title as the captain.

Lionel Messi won his first title after being officially appointed as FC Barcelona’s captain.

The records don’t stop here for Lionel Messi. He also became the most successful player in the history of Barcelona post the win. The Argentine now has 33 titles, which is most by any player in the history of the club.

After the elimination of Argentina in the round of 16 in Russia, Messi got a huge break, and he didn’t take part in Barcelona’s pre-season. Thus, the lack of playing time seemed to hurt both Messi and Barcelona.

In the match, Sevilla took an early lead at the 9th minute of the game and kept panicking the La Liga champions. But it didn’t take long for the Argentine star to get back to his usual form.

Just before the end of the first half, Barcelona pegged one back. Messi’s free-kick from a very close range hit the woodwork, but it came straight into the path of Gerard Pique who made no mistake and tapped the ball inside to make it one-all.

Later, FC Barcelona kept better possession in the second half, and they got their result at the 78th minute of the game. And the captain can take some credit for the second goal too.

Messi’s quick freekick gave an opportunity to Ousmane Dembele to try a long-range shot, and the youngster fired the ball in the top corner and made it 2-1.

However, Sevilla got a golden opportunity at the 90th minute of the game after they were awarded a penalty. But Wissam Ben Yedder saw his penalty getting saved, and it also ended the hopes of Sevilla.

Lionel Messi has now 33 titles in his Barcelona career. It includes four Champions League wins, nine La Liga crowns and six Copas del Rey, as well as a record five Ballons d’Or’s.

Lionel Messi Named FC Barcelona’s New Captain

After the departure of Andres Iniesta, Barcelona announced star forward Lionel Messi would be the club’s new captain ahead of the 2018/19 season.

Messi to take over, following the retirement of Andres Iniesta.

Lionel Messi, who is the captain of Argentina is also set to lead his club now. However, before Iniesta had joined Vissel Kobe in Japan, Messi was the vice-captain of the Catalans.

Meanwhile, Sergio Busquets takes over as the role of vice-captain while Gerard Pique and Sergio Roberto have joined the four-person leadership team.

Now, Lionel Messi has the chance to win his first trophy as the club’s captain on Sunday when Barcelona will take on Sevilla in the Spanish Supercopa finale. After a disappointing run in the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia with Argentina, Leo will be looking to win it all for the club in the next 12 months,

In last season’s La Liga, Barcelona lost only match and almost ended up as undefeated champions. They had also won the Copa Del Rey. However, they failed to bag a treble, as AS Roma crashed them out in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

Barcelona has made four signings in the 2018 summer transfer window so far. Malcom, Arthur, Clement Lenglet and Arturo Vidal are the new additions to the Spanish team. FC Barcelona will play their first La Liga match against Alaves on 18 August.

While Messi has taken a new step at his club, his future in Argentina is still undecided. The player didn’t talk about his future after the exit from the World Cup.

Transfer Latest: Everton Sign Yerry Mina, Andre Gomes on Deadline Day

Everton had pulled off massive deals on the deadline day in the English Premier League. The club had signed Barcelona duo of Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes. The Portuguese though roped for a season-long loan.

Everton managed to sign three players on the last day of the transfer window.

Barcelona had to pay €30.25m (£27m/$35m), plus potentially another €1.5m in variables for the Colombian defender, Yerry Mina. They have also included a buy-back clause in the deal.

Despite Yerry Mina finding life tough at Barcelona, the defender managed to score three goals at the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia. At Camp Nou, Mina only managed to make five appearances, and he couldn’t live up to the expectations.

However, the centre-back fell even further down the pecking order when Barcelona brought in Clement Lenglet in July. Earlier, Mina was linked heavily since the start of the transfer window, and now a deal finally got finalized.

Manchester United was also linked heavily with the Colombian defender. However, in the end, Everton successfully signed the player on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Andere Gomes’ deal is worth €2.25m, and it will be a season-long loan. The Portuguese midfielder failed to cement a spot in the first team since joining from Valencia in 2016 in a €35 million deal.

Andre Gomes couldn’t make any impression and also was a victim of booing several times from Barcelona Nou fans. Gomes himself revealed his life at Barcelona felt like hell after the first six months.

Mina and Gomes are not the only players who have gone from Camp Nou to Goodison Park in the transfer window. Another Barcelona player, Lucas Digne had also joined Everton earlier in this transfer window.

Everton also signed Bernard from Shakhtar Donetsk and made a big statement on the deadline day of the English Premier League.

Mourinho Is The Best Manager I’ve Ever Worked With – Willian

Willian, who is been circulated with rumours every day has revealed that Jose Mourinho is the best manager he has ever worked with. The Brazil winger also said that he will play under him once again if he gets the opportunity.

Willian’s future with Chelsea is still uncertain.

Willian played under Mourinho in 2014-15 and also lifted the Premier League title. But in the next season, a disappointing title defence saw the Special One end his second spell at Stamford Bridge.

The 29-year old star has been closely linked with two clubs – Manchester United and FC Barcelona. And with full of appreciation for Mourinho from Willian has fueled the rumours once again.

Willian told ESPN Brazil:
“Mourinho is the best manager I’ve ever worked with. We have a good relationship, we are friends. Sometimes we talk, we text, we send messages to each other via WhatsApp. He is a great manager, I really enjoyed working with him. I hope I can work with him again someday.”

The player also said there was not any official bid from Manchester United, but Mourinho always asks his agent to bring him to United.

“I don’t know if there was any official bid [from Manchester United], but some things have happened. So, everything comes out on the internet, too. But Mourinho talks to my agent all the time, he says ‘bring him, bring him’. No, he has never called me, but he always sends me text messages.”

However, Willian has revealed that there was only club who man an official bid for him and it was Spanish club FC Barcelona. But the player has made his mind that he will stay at the Stamford bridge.

“The only club I knew that really made an official offer for me was Barcelona. I have my head here and I intend to continue in the club unless the club wants to sell me. But my head is here in the club.”

Yerry Mina
The negotiations between Manchester United and Barcelona's Yerry Mina have broken down.

Transfer Latest: Yerry Mina to Manchester United Negotiations Broken Down

FC Barcelona defender Yerry Mina was on his way to Manchester United, according to some reports. But now, negotiations have broken after the English club withdrawn their interest in signing the player.

Yerry Mina – Manchester United talks broken

Yerry Mina joined FC Barcelona in the January transfer window from Palmeiras. Since then, things didn’t go too well for the defender. He couldn’t impress Ernesto Valverde, and the manager couldn’t include him in his plans. Now the Colombian defender is thinking of a way out from the Spanish club.

Despite a strong World Cup performance with Columbia, Yerry Mina has been pushed further down the Barca pecking order with the arrival of Clement Lenglet. The defender scored three goals in Russia and played a vital role for his nation at the showpiece event.

Before the rumours of the defender linking with Manchester United, he was heavily linked with another English club Everton. But then Yerry Mina emerged as a target for Manchester United, as the Red Devils looked for an alternative to expensive targets Harry Maguire and Toby Alderweireld.

However, now it seems United have pulled the plug on a move for Yerry Mina, focussing their attention on landing Alderweireld instead.

Now, Everton wants to re-enter negotiations with the defender after United pulled off their interest. They have been frustrated over the way they have been dealt with in the negotiating process. The club feels they were used and then discarded when United’s interest emerged.

With time passing on, Mina is now in the middle of nowhere. Time is also running out for the defender, as the transfer window in England will shut down on 9th August.

However, Mina can still find a new team if it doesn’t belong to the English Premier League, as in other parts of the world, the transfer window will end on 31st August.

Liverpool Fans are Angry Because I Said No Two Times – Lucas Digne

Everton’s new signing Lucas Digne is in the spotlight just after joining the club. Though the topic is not about the signing, but about the player’s “I never walk alone” tattoo on his body.

Lucas Digne has a bold message for the Liverpool fans.

After seeing the tattoo, everyone started to assume Digne is a Liverpool fan and he wanted to join the club. But in an interview with Liverpool Echo, he cleared out the confusion with a bold message. And it was a tough one for the Liverpool fans to take. Digne told Liverpool Echo,

“There is nothing about football; it is just about my parents. When I go for my first day at school when I was three or four years old, they gave me a necklace with these words on.”

The player has also revealed he has rejected Liverpool two times.

“After when I was 18 years old in Lille, I got a tattoo, and maybe the Liverpool fans are angry because I said, two times, ‘no’ to sign for Liverpool.”

Lucas Digne says he said no to Liverpool two times.

When asked when Liverpool offer Digne two times, he said,

“Two times, the first after Lille when I went to Paris and the second time was after Rome. I said two times ‘no’ because I am a Blue.”

Digne, who found life difficult at FC Barcelona has finally moved out of the club. The player has signed for the English club, Everton for £22m ($29m). The Frenchman has signed a five-year contract with the club.

Digne had a rough time with the Spanish club. After spending the 2015-16 season on loan at Roma, he moved to Barcelona in 2016 and made 12 La Liga appearances. He didn’t get enough playing time, and the manager never included him in his plans.

Aleix Vidal represented FC Barcelona for three years.

Vidal made 51 appearances for Barcelona in three years. And he decided to take in the second spell with Sevilla after not getting a permanent place in the starting XI of the La Liga champions.

The 28-year old defender moved back to his native Catalunya in 2015 after one productive season at Sevilla. But his debut was delayed at Barcelona, as he faced fierce competition for a place in the side.

Barcelona’s official website released a statement on Saturday,

“FC Barcelona and Sevilla FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of Aleix Vidal. Sevilla FC will pay FC Barcelona 8.5 million euros, plus 2m in variables. FC Barcelona expresses its gratitude to Aleix Vidal for his commitment and dedication and wishes him every success in the future. The player from Puigpelat ends his time at Barca after three seasons, from 2015/16 to 2017/18, and returns to the club he was signed from.”

In case if you think a Europa League trophy is missing in Vidal’s trophy cabinet, he had already tasted Europa League success with Sevilla in the past.

Transfer Latest: FC Barcelona Sign Arturo Vidal from Bayern Munich

What everyone thought is just a rumour, is now a reality. FC Barcelona have sealed the deal and reached an agreement to sign Chile midfielder, Arturo Vidal from Bayern Munich on a three-year contract.

Before the agreement, Arturo Vidal was heavily linked with Inter Milan.

As just as the transfer is surprising, the deal has shocked the world too. For the La Liga champions, it cost only €20 million (£18m/$23m) to bring out the Bayern midfielder for the Spanish club.

However, Inter Milan and AC Milan both were in the race to sign Vidal. Inter Milan was quite ahead in the race until Barcelona showed their interest. And now an agreement has finally been reached between both the parties.

FC Barcelona’s official website released a statement on Saturday,

“FC Barcelona and FC Bayern Munich have reached an agreement for the transfer of player Arturo Vidal. The agreement with Arturo Vidal is for the next three seasons and is pending medical review that the player will pass in the coming days. FC Barcelona will soon inform of the arrival of the player and the agenda of the presentation.”

Meanwhile, Arturo Vidal himself has also confirmed his departure from Bayern and thanked the fans.

“Thanks to Bayern and all the fans. I really enjoyed my time in Munich. I would like to thank the club for giving me another chance to take on a new challenge in Barcelona.”

Injuries restricted Vidal to 17 Bundesliga starts in the 2017-18 season. However, Vidal is Barcelona’s fourth major signing of the transfer window. Along with the Bayern midfielder, they have signed Arthur Melo, Malcom and Sevilla defender Clement Lenglet.

After bringing Arthur at the Camp Nou, manager Ernesto Valverde signalled his intention to add one more player to his midfield options. The fans were eagerly waiting to see who’s the fourth one and they have finally got their answer after the announcement of Arturo Vidal.

Transfer Latest: Barcelona Look to Hijack Arturo Vidal Deal

Spanish club FC Barcelona became a hot topic in this transfer window after they hijacked Roma’s deal and signed Malcom. And despite being criticised, it looks like Barcelona are now all set to hijack Inter Milian’s deal to sign Bayern midfielder, Arturo Vidal.

Barcelona keeps a keen eye on Arturo Vidal.

Barcelona lost two midfielders Andres Iniesta and Paulinho in this transfer window. Thus, they are desperately in search to replace them. They have signed Arthur Melo to fill in one of the voids. And the Chile midfielder might be their fourth signing of the summer.

In order for FC Barcelona to compete for major honours on multiple fronts though, more quality and depth is perhaps needed to launch a sustained assault in the upcoming campaign.

According to respected Sky Sports Italy journalist, Gianluca Di Marzio, their search for midfield reinforcements has taken them to Vidal. Inter Milan said to have previously been in pole position to take Vidal. But the negotiations might have broken down after Barcelona showed their interest to sign the midfielder.

Di Marzio claims Barcelona have swooped in. They could be on the verge of reaching an agreement with the 31-year-old, as they’re said to be ‘very close’. The deal is likely to cost them €30 million.

Arturo Vidal Barcelona
Arturo Vidal could be heading to Barcelona.

Arturo Vidal, who could even travel to Barcelona ‘in the coming hours’ for a medical, emerged as a fresh target for Valverde’s side after negotiations for Paris Saint-Germain’s Adrien Rabiot stalled.

Moreover, Vidal could be the ideal replacement of Paulinho for Barcelona. He offers energy, tenacity and defensive coverage in midfield.

Along with the likes of Ivan Rakitic, Sergio Busquets, Arthur and Coutinho, the team looks well balanced to challenge for all the titles next season.
