Vishakhapatnam, Dec 12: Gujarat Fortunegiants defeated Haryana Steelers 47-37 in a mouth-watering contest of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium here on Wednesday.

K. Prapanjan and Sachin collected 10 points each for Gujarat while Haryana’s Monu Goyat also picked 11 points alongwith Vikash Knandola’s six points, which couldn’t stop their side from another defeat.

Sachin and Dong Jeeon’s successful raid helped Gujarat taje a 2-0 lead in the initial moments before Naveen’s raid made the issue 1-2. However, Sachin and Prapanjan’s back to bach successful attempts saw Gujarat leading by 11-4 by the 15th minute.

Gujarat raiders continued with their successful attempts as they took a healthy 28-16 lead by the half-time.

In the second-half, both the side traided equal raid and defending points in the initial few minutes as the scoreline read 32-20 in Gujarat’s favour.A Gujarat’s dominance continued in the later part too as they they lead 38-22 by the 30th minute and finally went on to clinch the contest 47-37 when final wistles were blown.

PKL: Gujarat pip Titans 29-27 in thriller

Visakhapatnam, Dec 7: In an edge-of-the-seat match, Telugu Titans suffered a narrow 27-29 defeat against Gujarat Fortunegiants in an inter-zonal contest of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) season 6 at the jam-packed Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium here on Friday.

This was the eighth defeat for the Titans from 14 games, while Gujarat registered their 13th win from 18 games.

Rahul Chaudhary collected eight points for Titans but it wasn’t enough to guide his team home on the opening day of their home leg.

Gujarat once again witnessed a fantastic show from K. Prapanjan and Sachin, who picked 10 and nine points respectively.

Sachin opened the scoring for the visitors with a successful raid before the home side tackled Gujarat’s Ajay Kumar to level the score 1-1. Nilesh Salunke and Sachin collected raid points in their respective attempts as the score read 3-2 in Gujarat’s favour by the third minute.

Both the sides traded raid and tackle points later as the score was once again levelled at 5-5. However, Rahul’s super raid handed the Titans a lead for the first time in the contest as the home side led 8-6 and Sachin’s failed attempt made the score read 9-6.

The pendulum swung the other way as Prapanjan made some fantastic raids to once again give Gujarat a slight 11-9 lead. In the final minutes of the first-half, Gujarat inflicted an all-out to take a five-point 17-12 lead by the break.

In the second half, Titans collected a couple of points to cut the deficit to 15-17 but some successful raids and tackles by Gujarat saw them stretching their lead to 20-25 by the 26th minute.

Rakshith’s super raid brought the Titans back in the contest with the score reading 20-21 in the 30th minute. Few minutes later, Titans inflicted an all-out to take a 24-23 lead and Rahul’s successful raid with a tackle point helped them extend it further to 26-23 in the 36th minute.

Prapanjan’s two-point raid made the contest exciting again as Gujarat headed to 25 points but Rakshith also responded for the home side with a stunning raid to collect a couple of points and the score read 27-26 with just two minutes to go.

Sachin’s successful raid once again saw the contest being levelled at 27-27 before Gujarat tackled Rakshith in the dying minutes to pip the home side 29-27.

Ahmedabad, Nov 16:  Gujarat Fortunegiants got off to a flying start to their home leg as they crushed Bengal Warriors 35-23 in an inter-zonal clash of the Pro Kabaddi Season 6 at The Arena by Transtadia here on Friday.

K. Prapanjan led the charts for Gujarat, scoring 9 points and was ably supported by Ajay Kumar and Parvesh Bhainswal.

Bengal Warriors were in the match for the first 10 minutes but never recovered from the all out they suffered in the first half. Maninder Singh and Jang Kun Lee couldn’t live up to their high standards as the visitors suffered a second consecutive defeat.

Ajay and Maninder got a couple of raid points to get their teams going in the first five minutes. Prapanjan’s two-point raid gave Gujarat a 6-5 lead in the sixth minute.

Both teams were jostling for points and refused to give an inch in what was a closely contested first half. Maninder scored another raid point in the ninth minute to hand Bengal a 9-8 lead.

In the 14th minute, Gujarat grabbed the advantage by inflicting an all out to lead 14-11. Their defence ended the first half strongly by sending Lee and Maninder to the bench. At half time, Gujarat Fortunegiants led 19-14.

A super tackle forced by Bengal Warriors in the 23rd minute reduced the deficit to four points.

Gujarat, however, were in no mood to allow Bengal make a comeback. Ajay’s successful raid in the 28th minute led Gujarat to inflict another all out as they extended their lead to 27-18.

With less than five minutes to go, Gujarat enjoyed a healthy 12-point advantage, before picking up a few more raid and tackle points in the last couple of minutes to wrap up an easy 35-23 win.

Gujarat Outclass Bengal To Reach PKL Final

Mumbai, Oct 24 (IANS) Gujarat Fortunegiants sealed their place in the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) final after thrashing Bengal Warriors 42-17 in a lop-sided first qualifier at the NSCI Stadium here on Tuesday.

Bengal will, however, have a second chance to reach the final if they win the second qualifier against the winner of the third eliminator between Patna Pirates and Puneri Paltan.

Rakesh Narwal started the proceedings for Gujarat with a bonus in the opening minute even as Bengal quickly got into their act to equalise the scores at 2-2.

In the next few minutes, Gujarat surged ahead with a 6-4 lead before Maninder’s raid point reduced Bengal’s gap to 5-6.

Gujarat were in no mood to concede and within minutes brought their A game into play to get to a 11-6 lead by the 14th minute.

Bengal, however, managed to crawl back into the game and break the deadlock after seven minutes through Deepak Narwal’s raid, which they followed up with a super tackle making it 9-11.

Deepak got one point for Bengal in the next minute to further reduce the margin before Gujarat skipper Fazel Atrachali pushed Maninder out of the court as they went into the break with a slender 13-10 lead.

Coming back, Gujarat started dominating the proceedings by getting a super tackle to lead 19-10 and went on to add another three points, thanks to their raiders.

Struggling at 10-22, Bengal pulled back with a super tackle to trail 13-22 before Mahendra Ganesh Rajput’s successful raid helped Gujarat consolidate to 26-13.

Gujarat stepped on the gas by inflicting an all out on Bengal to take their lead to 29-14 even as Bengal managed to get two more points in the next minute to trail 16-29.

With just six minutes left, the Gujarat defenders grabbed Deepak by his ankle even as Sachin’s successful raid helped them stretch their lead to 32-16.

In the next few minutes, Sachin got a two point raid for Gujarat even as they inflicted another all out to make it 38-16.

Bengal failed to gain momentum and their hopes were further dashed as the Gujarat raiders continued to steal the points to eventually finish the contest at 42-17.

Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar along with his family was also in attendance at the contest.

Gujarat beat Jaipur in PKL-5

Jaipur, Oct 6 (IANS) In the first intra-zone wildcard match of the Pro Kabaddi League Season 5, Gujarat Fortunegiants beat hosts Jaipur Pink Panthers 29-23 here on Friday.

It was a closely-fought encounter but Gujarat held their nerve as they inflicted an all out in the 39th minute to win the match. Chandran Ranjit scored seven raid points for Gujarat Fortunegiants.

Gujarat are top of the table in Zone A with 72 points from 19 matches while Jaipur are fifth with 45 points from 16 matches.

PKL: Gujarat Edge Out Patna Pirates

Chennai, Sep 29 (IANS) In a battle of heavyweights in the Inter Zone Challenge Week of the fifth Pro Kabaddi Season, Gujarat Fortunegiants edged past Patna Pirates 30-29 here on Friday.

Parvesh Bhainswal and Abozar got high fives for Gujarat as they managed to keep Patna’s danger man Pardeep Narwal quiet for most of the match.

Narwal scored just five points and had his lowest scoring match of the season.

Chandran Ranjit scored seven raid points for Gujarat.

Gujarat are now on the top of the table in Zone A with 62 points from 17 matches, while Patna also are top in Zone B with 66 points from nine matches.

It was a low-scoring affair in the first half as both teams were cautious not to make errors.

It was 3-3 after five minutes as Gujarat kept Narwal out. Monu Goyat scored two points in two raids as Patna led 5-3. They then got tackle and raid points to lead 7-4 after seven minutes.

Gujarat however made it 8-9 in the 13th minute as Rohit Gulia scored with a two-point raid, and then they forced a super tackle in the 16th minute as they trailed 10-11.

Patna failed to score a point in the last five minutes of the first half as they trailed 11-14 at the break. Narwal scored just two raid points in the first half.

Gujarat began the second half brightly as they inflicted an all out in the 23rd minute to lead 18-12.

Parvesh Bhainswal got a high five in the 28th minute as Gujarat led 23-13. With Narwal on the bench, Patna were struggling to get points in the board.

Chandran Ranjit scored three points with a super raid in the 29th minute as Gujarat led 26-14.

The match was slipping from Patna’s hands but Narwal got a raid point as they trailed by 10 points after 30 minutes.

Patna forced a super tackle in the 33rd minute as they trailed 19-27 and another in the 36th minute to trail 21-28.

Jaideep got a high five for Patna as they trailed 24-29 after 36 minutes.

Gujarat’s defence did a splendid job on Patna raiders as Abozar got a high five to give his team 30-24 lead.

Patna forced their fourth super tackle in the 38th minute to trail 26-30. Narwal got a raid point in the 39th minute as his team trailed by just two points but Gujarat just managed to edge past by a point in the end.

Pro Kabaddi: Jaipur Brush Aside Gujarat To Go Third In Zone A

Kolkata, Sep 3 (IANS) Jaipur Pink Panthers avenged their defeat at the hands of table-toppers Gujarat Fortunegiants in their first meeting with a clinical 31-25 victory in a Zone A Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) tie at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Indoor Stadium here on Sunday.

With co-owner Abhishek Bachchan in attendance, skipper Jasvir Singh (six points) led the charge, with Somvir Shekhar (four points) and Pawan Kumar (four points) giving him good company.

Somvir was brilliant defensively with four tackle points. For Gujarat, Sachin’s efforts with seven raid points and Abozar Mighani’s work defensively (four tackle points) went in vain.

Courtesy the triumph, Jaipur are now on third in Zone A with 28 points from eight games while Gujarat remained top of the heap having 43 in their kitty from 12 outings.

The last time the two sides met, Gujarat won 27-20 over the inaugural champions.

Without the services of Manjeet Chhillar who is out for the last last three matches with an injury, Jaipur showed they have the arsenal to beat the in-form side.

Gujarat were leading 8-6 in the beginning but Jaipur, who never their more successful rivals so far this season pull away, drew level riding Ajit Singh’s two raid points.

It was all Jaipur from there on as they inflicted an all out on Gujarat to lead 14-9.

Star raider Jasvir started the second half with a bang helping Jaipur further consolidate their lead at 15-9.

Jaipur never let the match slip away and with seven minutes to go to the final whistle, handed another all out to their rivals stretching the lead to 26-17.

As much as the men in pink had their raiders to thank, their defence looked rock solid throughout the match.

PKL 5: Gujarat Beat Pune To Maintain Unbeaten Run

Lucknow, Aug 22 (IANS) Gujarat Fortunegiants stretched their unbeaten run to seven matches after beating Puneri Paltan 35-21 in a Zone A contest of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) Season 5 at the Babu Banarasi Das Indoor Stadium here on Tuesday.

Gujarat Fortunegiants remained on top of Zone A with 41 points after 10 matches while Puneri Paltan, after suffering their second defeat of the season, stayed second with 21 points from six games.

Iran’s Fazel Atrachali scored nine tackle points to create a record of scoring most points this season.

Raider Sachin opened Gujarat’s account in the first minute to make it 1-0 before making it 2-0 with a bonus point, thanks to Fazal successfully tackling Pune skipper Deepak Hooda.

Pune’s defenders scored their first point of the match in the second minute as the initial few minutes witnessed a close contest with the scores levelled at 5-5 after eight minutes.

Thereafter, it was Gujarat all the way, scoring 11 points in a row including an all out to lead 16-5 after 12 minutes.

Fazel marshalled Gujarat’s defence as they didn’t give a sniff to Pune, who finally managed to break the deadlock by earning two crucial points towards the end of the first half.

Pune seemed to have no reply to Gujarat’s aggression as the Sukesh Hedge-led side went on the rampage even after the breather.

In the initial few minutes of the second half, Deepak Hooda’s boys tried to make a comeback by reducing the gap to 16-9.

Deepak scored a raid point in the 26th minute as Pune trailed 11-18 before Sachin’s raid point in the 31st minute helped Gujarat stretch it further to 22-11.

Gujarat were looking in total command as Pune found the going tough even in the second half.

In the 32nd minute, both teams exchanged a raid point as the scoreboard read 23-13 in favour of Gujarat.

Pune managed to score five points in the next few minutes and reduce the deficit to six points.

With less than five minutes remaining, Fazel achieved a high five as Gujarat led 25-18 but Pune forced a super tackle in the 38th minute to reduce it to 20-27.

But Gujarat sealed the match in their favour by inflicting another all out in the final minute to extend their lead to 33-21.

Gujarat Hold Bengal In PKL Contest

Ahmedabad, Aug 17 (IANS) Zone A team Gujarat Fortunegiants ended their match tied 26-26 against Zone B side Bengal Warriors in an inter zone PKL contest at the Transstadia Arena here on Thursday to stay unbeaten in the home leg.

Both the teams shared three points each with Gujarat further firming their top spot while Bengal rising to the fourth position in their respective group standings.

Raider Sachin (7 points) along with defender Abozar Mighani (2 points) for Gujarat imposed most of the damage on the opposition, helping their side end the match with equal points on the scoreboard.

For Bengal, Deepak Narwal (7 points) gave a good fight to the opposition but failed to clinch the decisive point to help his side seal the match.

Raider Maninder Singh opened the scoring for Bengal with a successful raid. The away side took an initial 3-1 lead with the help of few successful raids which followed but could not hold on it for long, giving away easy raid points to the opponents.

Later for Bengal, South Korean heavyweight Jang Kun Lee along with Narwal pulled off some consistent successful raid and tackle points respectively to help the side take a four points lead at half-time.

Gujarat skipper Sukesh Hedge got the first point on board through a bonus point. The home side took one point advantage in the seventh minute of the first half pulling off a successful tackle on the do or die raid of the oppositions but failed to maintain the same.

Later in-form raider Sachin and Rohit Gulia continued picking crucial points through their pace and movement in the opposition half to keep the scoreboard ticking for their side.

Bengal registered a 14-10 lead at half-time.

The second-half began with empty raids from both the sides. Later Bengal broke the deadlock from a successful tackle and raids from Lee, Maninder and Narwal to maintain the lead.

With less than 10 minutes to play, the away side led with a slender 19-17 margin but failed to maintain the same giving away easy raid points to the opponents.

For Gujarat, Hedge combined with defender Abozar Migani to pick up points through successful raid and tackles respectively to narrow the points gap.

Later, Sachin too got back into the action pulling few successful raid points after returning empty handed in the initial minutes.

With less than three minutes to play, Mahendra Rajput played an important hand to help the side take 26-23 lead in the match but failed to clinch the decisive points.

Gujarat Outclass Hyderabad In PKL Contest

Ahmedabad, Aug 16 (IANS) Zone A team Gujarat Fortunegiants outclassed Telugu Titans 29-18 in a lopsided inter-zone Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) contest at Trasstadia Arena here on Wednesday to further strengthen their top spot in the group standings.

For Gujarat, Sachin (10 points) continued his fine form from the previous matches along with defenders Fazel Atrachali (3 points) and Abozar Mighani (4 points) to help their side win by 11-point margin and register their fifth consecutive win on a trot in home leg.

While Hyderabad displayed a failed all-round show, with substitute Vinoth Kumar (4 points) and defender Vishal Bharadwaj (2 points) being the key performers for their side.

After initial empty raids from both the sides, Vikas broke the deadlock for Telugu Titans taking a two-point advantage off his successful tackle.

But soon, the Hyderabad outfit looked to have lost momentum in the match which resulted in back-to-back empty raids and failed tackles.

For Gujarat Fortunegiants skipper Sukesh Hedge and Sachin pulled one points a piece from their successful raids to bring back the home side on level terms and further give them a 5-3 advantage in the seventh minute of the match.

Sachin maintained his speed, agility and movement to pull off a super raid to further strengthen the home side’s position, taking a massive 14-3 lead with less than nine minutes to play in the first-half.

The home side also looked strong on their defence disallowing the opposition to break free helping Gujarat take a massive 20-7 lead in the first-half.

The second-half began with Hyderabad captain Rahul Chaudhari pulling out some successful raid points, along with defender Vishal Bharadwaj and Sombir combining well to narrow the points margin through their successful tackles but failed to take the lead.

While for Gujarat, Sachin continued his fine form to complete a Super 10 from his successful raids. Defenders Abozar Mighani and Fazel Atrachali too kept on picking vital tackle points inside their half to keep the scoreboard ticking and maintain the lead for the home side.
