Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris Banned and Fined for Drink-Driving

Hugo Lloris, who was found guilty of drink and driving a couple of weeks ago has been fined £50,000 and banned for 20 months from driving.

Hugo Lloris has suffered a massive punishment for drink-driving.

On August 24, Lloris was stopped by police and found guilty. He attended a hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. And the court said the France captain provided a sample containing 80 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. It is more than twice the legal limit in England and Wales.

The police claimed the player went through a red light before being stopped, as he drove his Porsche Panamera. Then the police officer suspected of being drunk and he was right in the end.

The police officer named Henry Fitch also revealed that Lloris was driving at 15mph in a 30mph zone and veering towards parked cars before correcting himself. The player also vomited in the car.

However, David Sonn defended the goalkeeper and said he had been dining in a restaurant where he received drinks from fellow diners.

“On July 15 he was arguably the proudest man on the planet [after France’s World Cup triumph]. Just 40 days later, he was arrested. He experienced the indignity of being handcuffed and put in a police station overnight. The spectacular fall from grace is not lost on Mr Lloris.”

Meanwhile, Lloris released a statement apologising to everyone for his misdeeds.

“I wish to apologise wholeheartedly to my family, the club, my team-mates, the manager and all of the supporters. Drink driving is completely unacceptable. I take full responsibility for my actions, and it is not the example I wish to set.”

Earlier this week, Lloris also told RMC he wants to learn from his mistake and become a better person.

“Like everyone, I have my private life. I made a mistake. You have to accept responsibility for it. I have to stay focused on the most important things to me, the pitch, my friends, my family. I always want to go out onto the field to have fun and keep improving myself.”

Lloris apologises for drink-driving incident

London, Sep 11: English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur and France captain Hugo Lloris on Tuesday admitted to making a mistake after he was arrested on drink-driving charges last month.

“Just like every man, I have a private life. I made a mistake and I have to accept it,” Lloris told RMC Sport.

“I have to stay focused on what is the most important thing, in my mind — that’s the pitch. I have the support of my family and my friends. And I still want to go out onto the pitch to enjoy myself and continue improving,” he added.

Lloris is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday on charges of drunken driving.

The France World Cup winner was stopped by police in central London on August 24 where he failed a breathalyzer test. Lloris was out with Arsenal and France teammates Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud.

Lloris added that he does not intend to leave Tottenham in the near future and is keen to honor his contract, which is through the 2021-22 season.

“You don’t control everything. I’m focused on what I do daily with Tottenham. The most important thing for me is to enjoy myself every day, whether that be at training or learning from my coach,” the 31-year-old expressed.

“I have a very special relationship with coach Mauricio Pochettino. You try to contribute to the club’s success and to improve every year. I’m very happy where I am,” Lloris added.

Hugo Lloris Arrested for Drunken Driving

Tottenham Hotspur goal-keeper and captain Hugo Lloris was arrested on Friday morning and charged with drunken driving. A police confirmed he failed a roadside breathalyser test.

Lloris was charged after failing a breathalyser test.

The French goal-keeper was stopped at around 2AM and he was taken to Charing Cross police station. He was formally charged efore being released on bail.

Lloris have to appear on 11th September at Westminster Magistrates’ Court. However, after the incident he apologized releasing a statement on Friday evening.

“I wish to apologise wholeheartedly to my family, the club, my teammates, the manager and all of the supporters. Drink driving is completely unacceptable. I take full responsibility for my actions and it is not the example I wish to set.”

Earlier, a Metropolitan Police statement on his arrest said:
“A man has been charged following a routine patrol stop in Gloucester Place, W1. Hugo Lloris, 31, of East Finchley was charged with drink driving on Friday, 24 August. He has been bailed to return to Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 11 September.”

Just after  Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino came to the press conference head of Spurs’ game away to Manchester United on Monday, the incident happened. Tottenham have not commented on Lloris’ availability for the match. But they released a brief statement on the goalkeeper’s arrest.

“The club takes matters such as this extremely seriously and it will be dealt with internally.”

Lloris joined Tottenham in 2012 and has started both of their Premier League games this season. He has also won the World Cup with France this year in Russia.

Meanwhile, It is yet to be decided if Lloris will be dropped for the crucial game against Manchester United or not. If he gets dropped, Michel Vorm is likely to be the man who will replace the skipper.

FIFA World Cup 2018: Messi Can Decide Fate of the Match – Hugo Lloris

France’s goal-keeper, Hugo Lloris admits Lionel Messi can “decide the fate of the match” if he raises his game in the round of 16 clashes at the FIFA World Cup 2018.

France will face Argentina in 2018 World Cup’s first round of 16 clashes on Saturday.

Messi offered Argentina fans a tantalising moment of brilliance with his goal, as Jorge Sampaoli’s men beat Nigeria 2-1 to avoid a group-stage exit. He also got awarded as the man of the match.

Lloris suggested France will take collective responsibility for keeping the Barcelona star in check,

“We are preparing to play in a last-16 game against Argentina, so we have to be at our top level. We’ve studied their group games, which gives us an indication, but we know players like Messi can step up his own level and decide the fate of the match, as he does with Argentina and Barcelona.”

Though Argentina had a difficult start in the FIFA World Cup 2018, Lloris denies to see them as a weak opponent,

“Argentina have a lot to prove. They’ve had difficult times and still qualified. I’m sure they feel like going much further in the competition. They’ve won the World Cup in the past so it will be a big, difficult match and we’ll have to step up our level.”

Lloris refused to draw on comparisons between the talismanic Messi and young gun Kylian Mbappe,

“Messi is unique; you can’t compare anyone to him. Kylian has huge quality and potential, he’s fast, explosive and needs space. I think [against Argentina] he’ll have more space than the first three matches and as we go on in the competition, the level will step up and will have less room for mistakes. Mbappe has the potential to make the difference in difficult moments.”

France will face Argentina in 2018 World Cup’s first round of 16 clashes on 30 July. While, in the other game of the day, Uruguay will face Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal.

Sportzwiki Year End Review: Top Ten Goalkeepers in 2016

For as much attention as forwards and attacking midfielders receive for their elegant strikes and electrifying goals, the true backbone of a team sits with the man protecting the net: The goalkeeper. Oftentimes lost in the shuffle after glorious victories and devastating defeats, the keeper is arguably the most important position on the pitch, yet often the most underappreciated. As we are edging closer to the end of 2016, we are honouring the top ten goalkeepers this year.

Shocking: Eleven Star Performers Who Didn’t Receive Any Votes At 2016 Ballon d’Or

It’s probably fair to say that the usual suspects all picked up their fair share of the votes at this year’s Ballon d’or awards.

There were a few names in there that likely won’t be there next year – Leicester City duo Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy among them – but there were also a handful of big names that missed out.

While Robert Lewandowski reacted badly to being left behind in 16th place, there were some bigger names that will have to do with having nothing at all.

And we’re not talking about players that are lucky to be in the mix, we’re talking about players who have come close to winning it before and players who, while they likely won’t ever win it, could be in with a place in the top five.

Below, we’re looking at all of them and giving their credentials as to why they should have been given at least one vote in the process.

SERGIO RAMOS – REAL MADRIDRamos says Real Madrid to head into CL final in best form

The 30-year-old captained his side to yet another Champions League victory, making 33 appearances along the way. However, he couldn’t inspire his country to a more impressive showing at Euro 2016.

Though City surrendered their Premier League title without a fight last season, the Argentine still managed to chip in with 29 goals across all competitions.

The Belgian was in red hot form until his recent injury, chipping in with goals and assists like they were going out of fashion. He’ll hope that Guardiola can steady the ship in the second half of the season to get him back to his best.

The Bayern stopper finished third behind Messi and Ronaldo back in 2014, but this time around failed to register a single vote.

Gonzalo Higuain

The Argentine goal machine hit 38 in 42 appearances for Napoli last season and has continued that rich vein of form for Juve this term with another 12 so far, but sadly those goals counted for nothing in France Football’s eyes.

ANDRES INIESTA – BARCELONA10 things to know about Andres Iniesta

Like Neuer, Iniesta is another player that finished third not too long ago. However, injury, age and a slight dip in form have hampered his chances this time around.

A dead ball specialist in the truest sense. The 23-year-old has been in spectacular form for Juve over the past 12 months, helping the club to lift yet another Scudetto.

Godin has been monumental for Atleti at the back since he first arrived in 2010, and recently he has been linked with a move to the Premier League, but the boffins in France didn’t think too much of his performances, apparently.

The France international was one of Tottenham’s unsung heroes on their quest for the Premier League title this year. His form carried on into Euro 2016 where he helped France to the final, but it seems it’s all been overlooked.

Despite another prolific year in front of goal where his 32 goals led Bayern to another German league and cup double, there were no votes for the player.

The 24-year-old is maturing into a very fine player indeed, but apparently not fine enough for him to pick up the votes.

Hugo Lloris believes this is the perfect time to play Chelsea

Mauricio Pocchetino’s side has not been in a great run of form off late as they have only managed to win 1 game in their last 9 in all competitions. On Tuesday, they bowed out of the champions league losing 2-1 to French side Monaco. However, they can still qualify for the Europa league if they finish third in Group E. Spurs only win in the last nine games came on Saturday when they came from behind to beat Slaven Bilic’s West Ham United 3-2 at home.

The club next faces Premier League leaders Chelsea who are on a dream run in the league. Chelsea has won 6 games in a row without conceding even one goal which is quite a concern for Tottenham as they have failed to score from open play much this season. Antonio Conte’s boys have very quickly adapted to their new 3-4-3 system and are playing some scintillating football but Hugo Lloris believes that this is the perfect time to face a team of Chelsea’s quality. He also believes the clash will give them a chance of redemption.

Lloris quoted “Our fans, our club and most of all our players had a lot of expectations in this competition”

“We fought a lot last season to get this Champions League place.”

Lloris expressed his disappointment of being knocked out of the Champions League but feels they can bounce back with the big game against Chelsea on Saturday.Tottenham are currently placed 5th in the premier league four points behind their opponents on Saturday.

“We’re very disappointed, very frustrated with the way we played.”

“It’s a big disappointment but we need to keep our chins up because it’s a big game on Saturday. I have no doubt about that.”

“I said the same after we lost against Leverkusen at Wembley, this is the best type of game to bounce back.”

“The only thing is to digest the frustration of this defeat and look forward”

Spurs are still the only side who are unbeaten in the premier league this season and would be hoping for a win against the blues. With no other big game this weekend this derby would be the game to watch on Saturday.

Pogba just too tired to start flying in new season, says Lloris

Paris, Oct 10 (IANS) France football team captain Hugo Lloris believes Paul Pogba’s slow start in the new season can be put down to his exertions at last summer’s European championship.

“There are a lot of players who played in the European Championship and are experiencing physical difficulties at this moment,” the Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper told media ahead of France’s visit to the Netherlands for a 2018 World Cup qualifier on Monday.

“Their preparation was not ideal for the new season. Paul is one of them. And he has to take on a record transfer to Manchester United,” he said.

As the world’s most expensive player, the 23-year-old Pogba offered only one goal and zero assist in eight appearances in the English Premier League (EPL) new season.

The former Juventus midfielder, who helped France to the final of the European Championship on home soil, returned to Manchester United for a record total fee of $124.14 million (100 million pounds).

Lloris, however, has faith in the box-to-box midfielder and believes he will soon improve, reports Xinhua.

“I can understand the high expectations around him,” said Lloris. “There are also expectations from the dressing room, from the staff and the coach.”

“But France is a team and not only one player. We have to be complementary to get the best performance”.

“Paul has everything to be a great player but we always ask him to back that up. He can show it in a big game,” he added.

Tottenham Hotspurs goalkeeper Lloris sidelined by hamstring injury

London, Aug 17 (IANS) Tottenham Hotspur’s star goalkeeper Hugo Lloris could miss the team’s Champions League opener due to a hamstring injury that might keep him out for up to a month, the English club has confirmed.

“Following further assessment and scans of the left hamstring injury sustained by Hugo Lloris in the 1-1 draw at Everton on Saturday, we can confirm he is expected to be out of action for around four weeks,” read a statement from the club on Tuesday, Xinhua news agency reported.

Spurs will open their Champions League campaign on either September 13th or 14th. Besides the Champions League group match, Lloris will probably miss the league games against Crystal Palace, Liverpool, and Stoke.
