PSG eye Cazorla replacement as Wenger delays new contract for Spaniard!

After a 2nd placed finish without a trophy at the end of the last season, Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal have made a superb start to the season, getting themselves into the top-4 places 7 games into the new season.

The manager was busy in the summer trying to get his hands on some of the best players in Europe. Though he was not able to get most of his top transfer targets, Wenger is yet again looking to add to his squad and has continued to keep tabs on players he wants to add to his squad ahead of the next few seasons.

One such player who is now linked with a move to London is PSG star Marco Verratti.

Reports from Metro reveal that the 23-year old is open to a move away from PSG and that there are a number of clubs ready to pounce on him after the transfer window is open.

The Italian has been a star player for the French outfit for a couple of years now and has been in good form at the start of the current season. He is a genuine central midfielder who has the ability to control the midfield for his side and it is now understood that Arsenal are keeping tabs on the player.

Arsene Wenger, who has the likes of Granit Xhaka, Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla to play a similar role in his side, wants to add the 23-year old to his squad and is ready to make a move for him in the next transfer window.

It is also revealed that might be a replacement for the Spanish international Santi Cazorla in the side.

The 31-year old came into the side after the first few games this season and has cemented a place in the starting XI. He has been impressive in the midfield role for Arsenal in the last few games for Arsenal and is expected to be an important part of the squad this season.

However, his contract is set to expire at the end of the season and it is understood that Wenger is not yet ready to offer him a new contract at the club.

Cazorla, who has been at the club for a long time now has revealed that he is waiting for a contract offer and that he is ready to extend his stay at the club but it is understood that Wenger has eyed the PSG star to replace Cazorla in the team.

Verratti is contracted with PSG till2021 and will not be easy to lure out of PSG but if he takes Cazorla’s place in the starting lineup he will not be thinking too much about making the move.

Do you think Verratti should replace Cazorla at Arsenal?

Framed: The real reason behind Olivier Giroud’s Red Card against PSG!

Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud and PSG’s Marco Verratti were both sent off during their team’s champions League opener on Tuesday and it looked like only the referee knew why.

The two men were given their marching orders after an off-the-ball incident, but the cameras failed to pick up what referee Viktor Kassai had seen that caused him to get out the red cards.

But now new pictures have revealed why the referee thought he was right to send off both Giroud and Verratti.

Although Wenger was emotionless when Giroud was sent off during the game, the Arsenal boss was bemused at the decision after the game.

Giroud is yet to start a Premier League fixture for the north London side so far this season as he missed the opener against Liverpool altogether after being given an extended break following his exploits with France at the European Championships.

He has been named on the bench for the last three league games and came on to great effect at the weekend as it was a foul on him in injury time which allowed Santi Cazorla to score from the penalty spot in the 2-1 win over Southampton.

The 29-year-old has fresh competition for the centre-forward role from summer signing Lucas Perez, but he did finish last season as the club’s leading scorer in the Champions League with five goals – including a hat-trick against Olympiakos.

He scored 24 goals in all competitions for Arsenal last season and narrowly missed out on becoming a European Championship winner with France.

The future of Olivier Giroud may be relatively stable for now, but the recent signing of Lucas Perez and Christmas return of Danny Welbeck means that the 29-year-old could have his starting place taken from him in the coming months.

Giroud, like most footballers, creates debate among fans and pundits everywhere he goes. There are many who claim his technical qualities aren’t good enough for a team fighting on all fronts like Arsenal while others believe he is an underrated forward now coming into the peak of his career.

He went 12 games without a goal at the start of 2016 and despite his numbers looking good, Arsenal supporters will point to missed opportunities with Mesut Ozil creating the most chances for his team-mates in the Premier League last season.
