Royal Challengers Batsman Srikar Bharat Sorted RCB’s Problems At No. 3

Royal Challengers Bangalore wicket-keeper Srikar Bharat said that he was happy to provide a stable base as a number three batsman, for finishers like Glenn Maxwell besides saying Yuzvendra Chahal keeps the keeper interested. As No 3, his job is to provide a good base for finishers like AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell. KS Bharat and Glenn Maxwell added 69 runs for the third wicket in RCB’s win over RR.

Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman Srikar Bharat praised Yuzvendra Chahal for always staying one step ahead of the batter while adding he was happy to provide a stable base as a number three batsman. RCB dished out a clinical display with both bat and ball to record a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League on Wednesday, to boost their prospects of a top-two finish.

Royal Challengers Batsman Srikar Bharat Sorted RCB’s Problems At No. 3

With knocks of 32 and 44 against MI and Rajasthan Royals, Srikar Bharat has sorted RCB’s problems with their one-drop batter in the current edition.

“So, number three is always a beautiful spot to play. It asks a lot of questions if you are not ready for it. And we at RCB, we have always focussed on keeping the strike going and get busy right from ball one,” Bharat said at the post-match press conference.

“…and the little things of running and calling well and rotating the strike, all these little pointers, it plays a huge role in building up a partnership,” the Andhra keeper-batsman said.

For him, providing a platform for Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers to have a final assault is the main thing.

“The number three is someone who keeps the scoreboard ticking at 8 or 9 per over, then you will have a good base (and) for people like Maxi (Maxwell) and AB coming in after 12th over. If you have the wickets in hand, then you can go all out towards the end of the innings. So, the message is clear saying I should get a partnership going and we are sticking to it,” he explained.

Just like any youngster would say, Srikar Bharat was no different when asked the staple question about what he has learned from the likes of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers.

“If you play with Virat bhai (Virat Kohli), AB (De Villiers) and (Glenn) Maxwell, you tend to learn a lot of good things in terms of cricket and as well as how to handle yourself on and off the field,” Bharat said at the post-match press conference.

Glenn Maxwell and Srikar Bharat struck 50 and 44 respectively as RCB won the match by seven wickets and 17 balls to spare chasing 150 while Yuzvendra Chahal (2/18) and Harshal Patel (3/34) did the damage with the ball to RR in the first innings.

KS Bharat Discussed Tactical Things With Glenn Maxwell

KS Bharat and Glenn Maxwell, one of the sought-after T20 players, shared a crucial stand that helped RCB and the stumper said that the communication between the two was all tactical.

“And coming back to this innings, me and Maxi (Maxwell), we were having the conversation of what are the areas we could access and what are the boundary options…….how many overs one particular bowler is going to bowl, what are his lengths, so it’s all purely tactical things what we were discussing out in the centre and it came out well,” he noted.

On his 44-run knock, he said, “It is obviously a good feeling winning this game and coming back to it and contributing going out in the centre. Chahal is a very good bowler, he varies his pace exceptionally well. You have to be right in the game at every point, you cannot fade off even at the moment. I was trying to keep myself in the game as a wicketkeeper and you know, to read him from his hands. You have to be in the game, Chahal keeps the keeper interested always,” Bharat added.

With this win, RCB consolidated its position at the third spot with 14 points from 11 games. RCB’s new wicket-keeper batsman Srikar Bharat has finally arrived at the scene. He slammed a 35-ball 44 against Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday. His innings comprised a couple of sixes and an equal number of fours.

He shared a 69 runs partnership with Glenn Maxwell to take the game away from RR. His innings come after crucial 32 runs knock in the previous match against Mumbai Indians.

Glenn Maxwell Said Srikar Bharat Is A Genuine Top Class Batsman After The Duo Helped To Chase Down 150

Glenn Maxwell, who was RCB’s top-scorer with an unbeaten 50 off 30 balls, said Srikar Bharat is a genuine top-class batter. Despite the presence of AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell in the Royal Challengers Bangalore team, young wicketkeeper-batter Srikar Bharat has been trusted to bat at no.3 in the UAE leg of IPL 2021.

The talented right-hander, who has been on the fringes of the Indian side, finally lived up to the faith shown on him by scoring a fluent 44 off 35 balls against Rajasthan Royals in Dubai.

Glenn Maxwell: Srikar Bharat Is A Genuine Top Class Batsman

Srikar Bharat’s knock ensured there were no jitters in the RCB line-up despite losing openers Devdutt Padikkal and Virat Kohli in quick succession in the 150-run chase on Wednesday.  Reacting to Srikar Bharat’s knock, Glenn Maxwell, who was RCB’s top-scorer with an unbeaten 50 off 30 balls, said he is a genuine top-class batter.

“It is nice to have a bunch of guys doing different things and not relying on one guy. Everyone is chipping in and it has been a really enjoyable group so far. I wouldn’t call it an experiment, he’s (Bharat) a genuine top-class batter and the way he has gone about his innings is outstanding,” Maxwell told host broadcaster Star Sports after the game ended.

Glenn Maxwell and Srikar Bharat put together a 69-run stand for the third-wicket that took RR out of the game.

“Whatever hard work you do on the backend always counts on the bigger platform like this. You tend to explore lots of cricket, domestic as well as franchise cricket, it all helps. It is a good feeling winning this game, I and Maxwell were just communicating in the center and we did what the team required of us at that particular time,” said Bharat during a virtual press conference.

“Definitely, you play with Virat Kohli, Maxwell, and AB de Villiers, you tend to learn a lot of good things in terms of cricket and how to handle things out of cricket. Maxwell and I discussed what areas we can access, the boundary options and how many overs a certain bowler is going to bowl,” he added.

Srikar Bharat: Yuzvendra Chahal Varies His Pace Exceptionally Well

Earlier, Harshal Patel’s three-wicket haul helped RCB restrict Rajasthan Royals to 149/9 in the allotted twenty overs. For Sanju Samson’s side, Evin Lewis top-scored with a knock of 58 runs from 37 balls. Yuzvendra Chahal was adjudged as Man of the Match for his two-wicket haul.

“Chahal is a very good bowler, he varies his pace exceptionally well. You have to be right in the game at every point, you cannot fade off even at the moment. I was trying to keep myself in the game as a wicketkeeper and you know, to read him from his hands. You have to be in the game, Chahal keeps the keeper interested always,” said Bharat.

Srikar Bharat was one of the substitutes for Team India during historic India’s first-ever pink ball Test match in 2019 against Bangladesh. He was also a part of the Indian Test dressing room for England’s recently concluded tour to India. At the IPL 2021 Player Auction, he was bought by the RCB for his base price of INR 20 lakhs.

In IPL 2021, he played 4 IPL games amassing 92 runs averaging 30.33. RCB will next square off against Punjab Kings on Sunday in the ongoing IPL.

Glenn Maxwell Felt Good Since Playing For The Royal Challengers Bangalore In IPL 2021

Glenn Maxwell slammed his fourth fifty for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. He guided his side to a seven-wicket win against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Dubai. The Australian all-rounder praised his new franchise, stating that he has felt good ever since joining the franchise.

One of the most sought-after T20 cricketers, Glenn Maxwell, had a torrid season with Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) last year. He scored just 108 runs at a pathetic average of 15, striking at 102, and was subsequently released. Despite his indifferent form, RCB emptied INR 14.25 crore from their purse to fetch his service.

Glenn Maxwell Felt Good Since Coming In The Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Camp

There was considerable pressure on Glenn Maxwell to perform in IPL 2021 as he had a poor IPL outing in 2020 (for KXIP at UAE), managing just 108 runs in 13 matches averaging a pathetic 15.42. The batting all-rounder had a breakout 2014 season which was also held partially in UAE, where he scored 552 runs in 16 matches including amassing 300 runs in 5 matches at UAE in 2014 even coming close to scoring a hundred thrice.

“I have felt good since coming here, got myself into a nice routine at training and outside of training as well, I just feel like it is really clicking for me. Nice to perform in the middle, adapting to the situations in front of me.

“I don’t think it’s too different from any other franchise. It’s just what we have created as a group. It is nice to have a bunch of guys doing different things and not relying on one certain player. Everyone is chipping in, and it has been a really enjoyable group so far,” said Glenn Maxwell after his match-winning efforts against RR.

Promoted to no. 4 in the batting order, Glenn Maxwell is RCB’s highest run-getter this season, with 350 runs at an average of about 39, striking at about 142 in 11 games. The Victorian also has three wickets to his name this season.

Glenn Maxwell Thought RCB Played Well They Got Off To A Flying Start And Won’t Call Promoting KS Bharat An Experiment

Glenn Maxwell slammed an unbeaten 30-ball 50 to ensure the RCB completed their chase with 17 balls to spare. He shared a 69-run stand with wicketkeeper-batter KS Bharat (44) for the third wicket to ensure a convincing win.

An all-around bowling performance and Glenn Maxwell’s fifty were the highlights as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) beat Rajasthan Royals (RR) by seven wickets in Match 43 of the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 in Dubai on Wednesday.

Speaking on the team’s performance and the decision to promote KS Bharat at no. 3, the 32-year-old said: “I thought we played really well. RR got off to an absolute flier, and to bring them back in the last 10 overs was outstanding, then we controlled the tempo of the innings and finished it off. I wouldn’t call it an experiment (when asked about the experiment with KS Bharat at no.3); he’s a genuine top-class batter, and the way he has gone about his innings is outstanding.”

Earlier, RR had reached 100 in 11 overs before RCB restricted them to 149. This was courtesy of brilliant spells from Yuzvendra Chahal, Shahbaz Ahmed, and Harshal Patel. With 14 points from 11 matches, RCB is in the third spot in the IPL 2021 points table and next plays the Punjab Kings in Sharjah on Sunday. While the present Purple Cap holder Harshal Patel claimed 3 scalps, Yuzvendra Chahal and Shahbaz Ahmed picked 2 scalps each.

Brief Scores: Royal Challengers Bangalore 153/3 (Glenn Maxwell 50*; KS Bharat 44; Mustafizur Rahman 2/20) beat Rajasthan Royals 149/9 (Evin Lewis 58, Yashasvi Jaiswal 31; Harshal Patel 3/34) by 7 wickets.

Kevin Pietersen : This Is Just Not The AB de Villiers That Is Used To Seeing In IPL 2021 UAE Leg

Kevin Pietersen, the former England captain said AB de Villiers would not want to see captain Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell do the bulk of the scoring in every match.

It’s not usual to see AB de Villiers short of runs in a tournament let alone the IPL. But the UAE leg of IPL 2021 has not been a happy run-scoring country for some of the biggest stars of cricket and AB de Villiers is one of them.

Kevin Pietersen: Experienced Senior AB de Villiers Won’t Want To See Virat Kohli And Glenn Maxwell Do The Bulk Of Scoring Runs

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) stalwart has only managed scores of 0, 11, 14, and 4* in the four matches ever since the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League began at the UAE after a four-month postponement due to Covid-19 in India.

Former England captain Kevin Pietersen said AB de Villiers would not want to see captain Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell do the bulk of the scoring in every match. Kevin Pietersen, who has played a lot of cricket against AB de Villiers, said this is not the high standard that the former Proteas batsman sets for himself.

“He is an established player; he is a senior player. He would not want to see Kohli or Maxwell score the runs he is scoring. He must be thinking ‘I’m not holding my side of the bargain. This is just not the AB de Villiers that he is used to seeing,” Kevin Pietersen told Star Sports after RCB registered a comfortable 7-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday in Dubai.

Kevin Pietersen said it wouldn’t matter if the RCB batsman AB de Villiers scores three ducks in a row. The former South Africa captain would still warrant a place in the XI because of the things he has done in the past for RCB.

“He is a proud player; he is a fabulous player. We have seen that over a number of years. From his point of view, he would like to contribute. He would be hating the fact that he hasn’t been able to contribute. He has contributed so much to the world of cricket and in the IPL. If he gets three ducks in a row, it doesn’t matter. What he has done for the IPL and RCB is incredible. However, he would want to score,” Kevin Pietersen said.

AB de Villiers has scored 5083 runs in 180 matches in the IPL and is the only second overseas after David Warner to score more than 5000 runs in the league.

Virat Kohli: RCB Got The Rewards Of Middle Overs Bowling By Taking Wickets

RCB, meanwhile, will be happy with the form of their other big overseas recruit Glenn Maxwell. The Australian all-rounder struck another important fifty as RCB took a giant step towards confirming a spot in the playoffs.

“We’ve got the rewards because we’ve been fearless and confident in the moments that the game can go either way,” Kohli said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

Virat Kohli, RCB

“Couple of important things are clicking: middle-overs bowling is one. If you take wickets you can change the game. And batting also, we’ve got a few good opening starts. Devdutt and I have focused on giving the team good starts so that the middle-order with AB, Bharat and Maxwell can make more. Boys have stepped up, so that’s been key for us,” Kohli added.

Rajasthan Royals were in sight of a tall total when they were 100 for 1 in 11 overs, on the back of Evin Lewis’ breakneck half-century. However, his dismissal triggered a terminal collapse as the Royals lost 8 for 49 – and their heads – to be restricted to under 150 on a fresh Dubai track.

They might have still hoped of a comeback when Devdutt Padikkal and Virat Kohli fell either side of the powerplay, but KS Bharat and Glenn Maxwell forged a 69-run partnership to dash all hopes of RR’s win. Royal Challengers ultimately sealed victory with seven wickets and 17 balls to spare, also giving their net run-rate a leg-up.

Royal Challengers Bangalore 153 for 3 (Maxwell 50*, Bharat 44, Mustafizur 2-20) beat Rajasthan Royals 149 for 9 (Lewis 58, Jaiswal 31, Harshal 3-34, Shahbaz 2-10, Chahal 2-18) by seven wickets

Virat Kohli Has Impressed Sunil Gavaskar In IPL 2021

Virat Kohli on Thursday became the first and only cricketer to get to 6000 runs in the IPL, a feat that impressed a lot of former and current cricketers.  Of those in awe of Virat Kohli is former India captain Sunil Gavaskar, who reckons his achievement will pave the way for other cricketers to follow suit.

The legacy of Virat Kohli continued to grow as the Royal Challengers Bangalore captain became the first player in IPL history to reach an incredible landmark. Sunil Gavaskar praised him by saying he will raise the standards of other batsmen like Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina who also have scored above 5000 runs.

Virat Kohli’s Feat Stands Right At The Top: Sunil Gavaskar

The 32-year-old, who had played his first IPL match against KKR in 2008, extended his all-time run-scoring record over other batsmen in the cash-rich league by getting to 6021 runs in 196 matches. He has five hundred and 40 fifties beside his name.

Chasing a target of 178 against Rajasthan Royals, Virat Kohli (72* off 47) forged a 181-run opening partnership with Devdutt Padikkal (101* off 52) and helped RCB reclaim the top spot in the points table. So far, they have won all four of their matches.

“It stands right at the top, for the simple reason that when you’re the first to get to a particular landmark, you’re setting the bar for others. And now the others will want to get to 6000, Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina, who have gone past 5000. They will be looking to get to 6000 because that is what the No. 1 player does,” Gavaskar said of Kohli’s achievement on Star Sports.

Virat Kohli reached the landmark during RCB’s game against Rajasthan Royals. The RCB captain remained unbeaten on 72 off 47 balls including six fours and three sixes as he and Devdutt Padikkal added an unbeaten 181-run stand for the opening wicket, helping the team reach the stiff target inside 17 overs.

After him, Suresh Raina has 5448 runs in 197 IPL games while Rohit Sharma has 5431 runs in 205 games and Shikhar Dhawan has 5428 runs in 180 games. The Indian quartet is followed by overseas batsmen David Warner, AB de Villiers, and Chris Gayle.

Virat Kohli Took A Backseat As Devditt Padikkal Was Batting Well At The Other End: Sunil Gavaskar

Prior to the match, Virat Kohli needed 51 runs, and upon completing his half-century, the RCB captain took the backseat as Devdutt Padikkal fired on all cylinders. Sunil Gavaskar feels this is a unique feature of Virat Kohli’s batting, one that is synonymous with his greatness.

“To see the way he got to it was also amazing. He didn’t scratch about; he was hitting the ball fluently. Yes, he took a backseat as he himself said because Devdutt Padikkal was batting so well at the other end. And that’s what opening partnerships are all about. Therefore, this feat, as far as the IPL is concerned, I think every time you get to a particular landmark, the first is right at the top,” Gavaskar added.

The 71-year-old praised RCB skipper Virat Kohli and his opening partner centurion Devdutt Padikkal for their ‘sublime’ performances. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar looked mighty impressed after Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) thrashed Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 10 wickets in match 16 of IPL 2021 in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.

32-year-old and arguably the world’s best batsman Virat Kohli had to take the backseat in front of a 20-year-old free-slowing Devdutt Padikkal. He showed immense power while showcasing the general elegance of a left-hand batsman. On the other hand, the swashbuckling right-hander completed his 40th IPL fifty with a single before scoring a boundary towards deep fine leg to become the first player to score 6,000 runs in IPL.

IPL 2021: Kumar Sangakkara Praises Devdutt Padikkal For His Exceptional Innings Of 101*

Kumar Sangakkara, Rajasthan Royals (RR)’s director of cricket has praised Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) opener Devdutt Padikkal for his stupendous unbeaten century on Thursday.

Devdutt Padikkal smashed an unbeaten 101 off only 52 balls as RCB demolished RR by ten wickets in an IPL 2021 game in Mumbai.

Kumar Sangakkara : Devdutt Padikkal Batted Really Well

Since his comeback from Covid-19, Devdutt Padikkal has scored 137 runs at an average of 68.50, including the 52-ball ton against the Rajasthan Royals on Thursday. This knock helped RCB to a flawless 10-wicket win.

Asked about his take on Devdutt Padikkal’s innings, Kumar Sangakkara said at a virtual press conference: “It was an exceptional innings (from Devdutt Padikkal). He batted really well. Played the shots that he knew he could play.

“He anticipated some of the deliveries that were going to be bowled, with the field set. I thought he showed a lot of maturity to bat through. Of course, he was batting with Virat (Kohli). So there was a lot of conversation out there. Lot of talk about what to do and how to do it. It was very impressive.”

Speaking about his own team, Kumar Sangakkara said he was impressed with the way Shivam Dube batted. The all-rounder top-scored for RR in the match, with 46 off 32.

Shivam Dube (BCCI/ IPL Photo)
Shivam Dube (BCCI/ IPL Photo)

Praising Dube, Kumar Sangakkara said:”I thought Shivam (Dube) batted really well. He showed a lot of intensity and awareness. One of the things that he matches up well against is spin, and that is his real strength.

“Today, he showed that he has the ability to try and dominate the slow bowlers. He batted smartly. He got out a bit ahead of time, but the lower order fought really well (after a top-order collapse). But we have got to learn and improve. Games can slip by quickly.”

Kumar Sangakkara had played 134 Tests and 404 ODIs during an illustrious career. In the match, RR’s Shivam Dube’s 46 off 32 sowed the seeds of resistance, and Rahul Tewatia took over from there. His unorthodox strokeplay – scoops over fine leg, lashes over third man – obvious power and sheer determination produced 40 runs in 23 balls and took the Royals to a respectable 177 for 9.

Devdutt Padikkal Was Keen To Contribute To RCB’s Win

Before the start of IPL 2021, Devdutt Padikkal had tested COVID-19 positive. However, he soon tested negative and was allowed to join the team. The youngster, though, had to miss RCB’s first match against Mumbai Indians (MI).

Reflecting on the gamut of emotions that he has been through in recent days, Devdutt Padikkal said: “It’s been special. I could only await my turn. When I was down with COVID, all I was thinking of was to come here and play the first match. I couldn’t do that but was keen to contribute to the team’s win.”

On the wicket in Mumbai, Devdutt Padikkal added: “The ball was coming on really well, and we got a good start. When you get into a partnership like that (with Virat Kohli), it helps, as runs come from both ends.”

Devdutt Padikkal’s unbeaten 181-run stand with skipper Virat Kohli is the highest opening partnership for the Bangalore franchise. Moreover, their chase of RR’s total of 178 is the third-highest total chased in the tournament without losing a wicket.

IPL 2021: RCB Must Retain Core Group And Should Try To Finish In Top Two, Says Ashish Nehra

Ashish Nehra, former Indian pacer heaped praise on Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) after they registered a massive 10-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in match number 16 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.

A brilliant bowling performance from Mohammed Siraj (3/27) and Harshal Patel (3/47) restricted the Royals to 177 for 9. In reply, RCB chased down the target 27 balls to spare as Devdutt Padikkal slammed his maiden IPL ton (101* off 52 balls) while captain Virat Kohli returned unbeaten on 72.

Ashish Nehra: RCB Should Confirm  Their Playoff Qualification And Try To Finish In The Top. 2

This was the fourth win on the trot for RCB and now they are the top-placed team on the points table with 8 points. While speaking to Cricbuzz, Ashish Nehra reckoned that RCB shouldn’t lose the momentum and must aim to finish the league stage among the top two.

“Virat Kohli, as a skipper, never take things lightly. The way they have started their campaign and won four in four, they shouldn’t limit themselves. I remember when I was in Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) and when we went to South Africa in 2009.

“We experimented with a few things towards the end of the league phase as we had already won around 10 out of 12 games. So first, they should confirm their play-off qualification and try to finish in the top 2,” Ashish Nehra told Cricbuzz.

Devdutt Padikkal scored 101 runs and helped RCB chase down RR’s target in just 16.3 overs with ten wickets in hand in an IPL 2021 match. It was an impressive display from the left-hander as he smashed 6 sixes and 11 fours during his entertaining 52-ball unbeaten knock. RCB is one of the teams yet to win IPL.

Ashish Nehra: RCB Couldn’t Have Started Better And Should Keep Valuable Players In Their Core Group

Ashish Nehra opined that the RCB should keep the likes of Devdutt Padikkal, Mohammed Siraj, and Washington Sundar in their core team and try to maintain the winning streak.

“RCB couldn’t have got a better start than this. Moreover, they have found several valuable players –other than Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers – in Devdutt Padikkal, Mohammed Siraj, Chahal, and Washington Sundar. They should keep them in their core group.

“And this team has got the potential that we have seen in previous editions. The way they took off this season, let’s hope that they can end the things in a similar way,” he added.

Chasing 178, openers Devdutt Padikkal and Virat Kohli (72 n.o.) made short work of the target. During the course of his knock, Virat Kohli became the first cricketer to cross 6,000 runs in the IPL. In IPL 2021, apart from Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal, AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell have also scored above 120 runs. Glenn Maxwell in fact is the 2nd highest run-scorer with 176 runs in IPL 2021 so far.

On the other hand, Harshal Patel is the leading wicket-taker with 12 scalps while Kyle Jamieson (6) and Mohammed Siraj(5) have also been among wickets. Bengal spinner Shahbaz Ahmed has the best bowling average of 7.

IPL 2021: Devdutt Padikkal Admits Coming Out Of COVID-19 Was Challenging

Devdutt Padikkal admitted beating the coronavirus was a ‘big challenge after scoring his maiden IPL hundred in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s 10-wicket win.

The Karnatka left-hander missed out on RCB’s first game of the season against Mumbai Indians as he contracted the virulent disease before the tournament began. The southpaw had to undergo a quarantine and multiple tests before rejoining the squad.

“Coming out of Covid was definitely a big challenge and I was really glad that I could contribute to the team from the second game. So as long as I am contributing and the team is winning, that’s all that matters to me,” said Devdutt Padikkal in a virtual press conference.

Devdutt Padikkal Wasn’t Trying To Do Anything Different Or Special

Speaking on his innings, Devdutt Padikkal said he wasn’t trying to do anything extraordinary but just sticking to his processes. The opener scored 101 runs and helped RCB chase down RR’s target in just 16.3 overs with ten wickets in hand in an IPL 2021 match.

It was an impressive display from the left-hander as he smashed 6 sixes and 11 fours during his entertaining 52-ball unbeaten knock.

It was the 2nd IPL 2021 ton after RR’s Sanju Samson who had scored 119 against Punjab in a lost cause.

“To be honest, I have only looked to keep things simple throughout the last 2 seasons. I am not trying to do anything different or special. I have just tried to stick to my processes every game and tried to stay as consistent as possible. And, thankfully, I have been able to do that,” said Devdutt Padikkal.

Devdutt Padikkal Won’t Surprise Sunil Gavaskar If He Is Selected For India

Former India skipper and legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar was also impressed with Devdutt Padikkal’s display on Thursday as he said that the 20-year-old could play for Team India sooner rather than later.

“Won’t be surprised if he plays for India in any of the formats because he has got the class and the ability to do that. He is a heavy scorer in first-class cricket and Ranji Trophy as well gets big hundreds. In 50-overs cricket, he gets lots of runs and hundreds.

“Here, in the T20 domestic tournaments, he got lots of runs. So, I won’t be surprised if he is there sooner rather than later,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

“Karnataka has always produced a terrific line of batsmen. Gundappa Vishwanath, Rahul Dravid… then KL Rahul. And if KL Rahul, you know, some of the stars need to believe in themselves a little bit more. Sometimes you get the feeling that he doesn’t believe in himself.

“He is such a talented player And there is Mayank Agarwal, there is Karun Nair who got a triple hundred, he also needs to get his act together. It’s a terrific batting line-up Karnataka have,” Sunil Gavaskar added.

Prior to the start of this edition of the IPL, Devdutt Padikkal tested positive for Covid-19 and he missed RCB’s opening game against Mumbai Indians. The 20-year-old who plays for Karnataka in domestic cricket signed off IPL 2020 as RCB’s highest run-getter and 8th highest run-getter with 473 runs in 15 IPL matches at an average of 31.53 in his debut season.

He scored 218 runs at an average of 43.60 in six matches for Karnataka in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and continued with his sublime touch in the Vijay Hazare Trophy amassing 737 runs in 7 matches at an astonishing average of 147.40. His onslaught in the Vijay Hazare Trophy included four back-to-back centuries.

Rajasthan Royals was never in the game during the chase. Royal Challengers Bangalore openers Devdutt Padikkal (101 runs from 52 balls) and Virat Kohli (72 runs off 47) helped the team register a dominant 10-wicket victory tonight with 21 balls remaining.

“And Devdutt Padikkal is another one in that long line of batsmen who have delighted the Indian cricket lovers.”

Taking nothing away from the duo, RR bowlers did struggle hard with their line and lengths. Chetan Sakariya was the only one who had an economy rate of less than nine. RCB goes back to the top of the IPL 2021 standing and is the only undefeated team remaining in the tournament.

RR, who were put in to bat, made one change – Shreyas Gopal replaced Jaydev Unadkat in the playing XI. RCB pacer Mohammed Siraj found an early breakthrough after he disturbed the timber to dismiss Jos Buttler.

RR then lost the wickets of Manan Vohra and David Miller in the next two overs and was in early trouble. RR was back on the track with 81/4 after 11 overs. The Shivam Dube-Riyan Parag pair completed a fifty-run partnership. Rahul Tewatia came to the crease with an aggressive mindset but his 40 and Shivam Dube’s 46 went in vain.

Virat Kohli Calls AB de Villiers As ‘Most Impactful Player’ In IPL

Virat Kohli, the Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper on Saturday, called teammate AB de Villiers the “most impactful player in IPL”. The South African wicket-keeper batsman scored 55 off only 22 balls with the help of one four, and as many as 6 sixes as RCB beat Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets.

RCB reached the 3rd spot on the points table with 12 points from nine matches having won six matches. Chasing 178, AB de Villiers smashed six sixes to help RCB win after everything seemed lost for them as they needed 76 runs in less than seven overs to win following successive wickets of set batsmen Devdutt Padikkal and Virat Kohli with the score at 102 in the 14th over.

Virat Kohli Rates AB de Villiers As Most Impactful Player In IPL And Credits Individual Efforts Of Both Batsmen And Bowlers

AB de Villiers has now moved to the 8th spot while skipper Virat Kohli is placed 5th and youngster opener Devdutt Padikkal is placed 7th in the list of highest run-scorers in IPL. While Virat Kohli has scored 347 runs averaging 57.83 after a rather slow start while AB De Villiers has scored 285 runs and Devdutt Padikkal has scored 296 runs.

“AB has always been someone who’s been ready to look at the situation and adapt his game accordingly. In my eyes he’s the most impactful player in the IPL,” Kohli said during the post-match presentation ceremony.

“If he goes, the opposition know they have a slim chance and there’s a good reason for that. It’s purely because of the presence of someone like him that teams feel we are never out of the game.”

“To be honest, you’re always tense in chase because you’re not sure how many balls AB is going to get. Credit to Gurkeerat as well, he stuck with AB, got that important boundary. It doesn’t matter who the bowler is, he does what he does.”

AB de Villiers has scored 285 runs in 9 matches averaging exactly 57. He has scored the maximum number of the fifties numbering four in IPL 2020.

Gurkeerat Singh Mann remained unbeaten on 19 off 17 balls along with AB de Villiers who scored an unbeaten 55 off only 22 balls at a strike rate of 250 to steer RCB to an unlikely victory over Rajasthan Royals.

“The individuals are stepping up and we’ve been done that all through the tournament, which is why we have 12 points.” Kohli said.

Talking about his team, the Indian skipper said: ” The bowling has really stepped up this season.”

AB De Villiers, who was adjudged the Man of the Match for his blistering knock, said he was nervous in the 19th over as he had to hit those big sixes to get his team home.

“When Unadkat was bowling, I was looking at the leg side but to be honest I was nervous because I knew I had to hit it well. I’m very very nervous and erratic (in chase) and I get very stressed like any player.  Last game I didn’t perform my role as well as I should have, but this time I did.”

The seven-wicket victory takes RCB to 12 points from 9 matches with 6 wins. Chris Morris, who was the peak of RCB bowlers with four for 26, said watching calm and composed AB De Villiers batting still blows his mind.

Virat Kohli himself scored 43, but RCB were in a spot of bother losing two quick wickets at the same score of 102.

Steve Smith Dejected At Loss As Decision To Give Jaydev Unadkat The Penultimate Over Backfired

Rajasthan Royals skipper Steve Smith was crestfallen after yet another defeat which was their sixth in nine games.

“Sure it is a hard pill to swallow. Just got AB’d there. That’s two in a row we were in the box seat to win but didn’t. Disappointing,” he said.

“I think it was a good score on a slow wicket. I thought we built the pressure pretty well and it took a pretty special innings to take RCB home.”

His decision to give pacer Jaydev Unadkat the penultimate over backfired as he was taken apart by AB de Villiers for three consecutive sixes in the first 3 balls as the over saw as much as 25 runs to tilt the match in Bangalore’s favour.

“We wanted to use Jaydev to the bigger boundary, he bowls a lot of slower stuff into the wicket. Obviously the boundary is not big enough for AB.”

Jaydev Unadkat went wicket-less but conceded 46 runs in four overs.
