Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez Completes a Move to Manchester City

In January, after seeing a bid getting rejected for him, Premier League champions, Manchester City have already made Riyad Mahrez of Leicester City their first big by signing winger Mahrez for this season.

Mahrez leaves Leicester for Manchester City

The defending champions have completed the signing of the winger for £60 million (€68m/$80m) on Tuesday. The 27-year old has joined hands with Pep Guardiola side for five years after the two finally came to agree.

“I am so pleased to have joined City, a side playing great football under Pep Guardiola, Mahrez told the club’s website.

Watching them from afar has been a pleasure. Pep is committed to playing attacking football, which is perfect for me, and City’s performances last season were outstanding. They’re redefining the English game, and I wanted to be a part of it.

“I think we can be successful over the coming years and I believe my own game can develop under Pep’s management.”

Earlier, the reports suggested the deal has finally been done, and both the parties have come to a settlement. However, Mahrez was pretty close to joining Man City. They made an offer on the last day of the transfer window in January, this year. And apparently, he submitted a transfer request to foxes.

Although the former Premier League winners rejected the bid and City backed out, Pep Guardiola suggested they would return afterward for Mahraz in summer.

And Txiki Begiristain, Manchester City’s Director of Football, said he is delighted to have finally captured one of the best players in the English top flight.

“Riyad is a hugely talented player. He beats defenders and creates space,” he said. “Over the past few years, he has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most exciting players.

“We’re sure he will bring additional attacking quality to our squad.”

Riyad Mahrez had joined the former team Leicester City in January 2014. He had definitely helped them get the first place in the championship.

Post two years, he gained the title of (PFA) Player of the year by scoring 17 goals, and the further count went up to ten more when they won the Premier League title a couple of years back.

Breaking: Arsenal Close To Announcing Riyad Mahrez Signing

Arsenal have signed Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez and the announcement could be made very soon, according to reports in Italy.

Busy Summer for Arsenal

The Gunners are looking to strengthen their squad after failing to qualify Champions League for the first time in two decades. They had managed to finish fifth in the Premier League last season and will play in Europa League in the forthcoming season.

Arsene Wenger is determined to bring quality players to Emirates this summer in an attempt to rebuild the squad. They have already signed Sead Kolasinac from Schalke on a free transfer and are very close to signing Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette in the coming days.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Arsenal have already completed the signing for Leicester City player Riyad Mahrez.  The Algerian international is one of the high profile players that are available in the transfer market this summer and he would be a valuable addition to Arsenal squad.

He was named the PFA player of the season during 2015-16 season when he helped Leicester City win the Premier League. However, things changed drastically for the club last season as they fought relegation before late surge in form helped them finish mid table comfortably.

The 26-year old has expressed his desire to move to a bigger club and was linked with a move to Barcelona as well this summer. However, Arsenal who were so interested in signing him last summer, have now won the race to bring him to Emirates for next season.

Arsene Wenger had remained coy when asked about the chances of signing Mahrez last month.

“Have we made a bid for him? No,” he said.

“Not yet. Not yet means it could happen, it could not happen.”

Mahrez Replacement For Sanchez?

Alexis Sanchez was the best player for Arsenal last season without a doubt. However, his reluctance to sign a new contract means the club needs to look for potential alternatives.

Riyad Mahrez would be one of the most suited players to Gunners’ playing style and would be a very useful player in the final third. The club will need to let players like Sanchez leave who seems to think they are bigger than the club and the move would be the ideal way to proceed in the ongoing transfer window.

Juventus Plot Sensational Move For Arsenal Target Riyad Mahrez

Italian champions Juventus are set to join Arsenal in the pursuit of Leicester City forward Riyad Mahrez, according to reports.

The Algerian international had expressed his intentions of leaving Leicester this summer and has drawn interest from numerous clubs including Arsenal and Chelsea in Premier League.

According to Mirror, Juventus are tracking the situation of Mahrez as they are plotting a move to sign him before the end of the transfer window.

Juventus have once again failed to clinch Champions League glory after losing 4-1 to Real Madrid at Cardiff earlier this season making it their second Champions League defeat in last three years.

Manager Max Allegri is ready to make some key additions to his squad to make a push for European trophy next season. However, Riyad Mahrez is not the only player in his mind as the Italian giants are also keen to make a move for Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa. Juve will make move only if they fail in their pursuit to sign the 26-year old Brazilian from Munich.

Meanwhile, Arsenal continue to be frontrunners to sign Mahrez as the player recently expressed his delight over Wenger’s comments. But he has insisted that there are no ‘concrete’ offers to consider so far.

“It is an honour to receive compliments like this from such a big manager in world football, but there is a big difference between words, speculation and an offer.”

“There is nothing on the table at the moment. As he went on to say, there is nothing concrete, so I will not dwell on that too much yet.”

The 26-year old featured in 48 games for Leicester City across all competitions last season and has managed 10 goals and 7 assists during the campaign.

Mahrez was 2016-17 PFA player of the season and had successfully emulated similar performances during the business end of last season to help Leicester finish higher in yhr table after battling relegation in February.

Arsenal will have a quality winger on the right if they can manage to sign Mahrez, especially considering the increasing interest from Liverpool to sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for next season.

Mahrez, Sandro On Chelsea’s Wishlist

London, June 8 (IANS) English football champions Chelsea have reportedly shown interest in signing Leicester City’s winger Riyad Mahrez and Juventus left-back Alex Sandro this summer.

The move for Mahrez, who has requested for transfer to Leicester, is aimed to provide a greater cover for Belgian Eden Hazard who will miss the start of the next season because of an injured ankle, according to telegraph.co.uk on Wednesday.

This move places Chelsea in a direct battle with another English Premier League (EPL) giant Arsenal, who have already shown a keen interest to acquire the 26-year-old winger.

When asked about a potential move for the Algerian, Wenger told beIN Sports last week: “Have we made a bid for him? No, not yet. Not yet means it can happen and not happen.”

Leicester have put a price tag of $55 million for Mahrez, but the Algerian’s insistence on leaving could bring down the price.

Chelsea’s head coach Antoine Conte also wants to bring Brazilian Sandro to the club this summer.

Juventus view Sandro’s value at around $55 million and may be willing to listen to offers.

Sandro can play as a left-back or a left wing-back which would significantly boost Conte’s options.

Wenger Keen To Bring Mahrez To Arsenal

London, June 3 (IANS) Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has asserted that he is keen to sign Leicester City’s star forward Riyad Mahrez.

This revelation comes hours after news broke of a failed £87m bid by the former English Premier League (EPL) champions for teenaged sensation Kylian Mbappe from reigning French league champions AS Monaco.

“We have not made a bid, but personally, I like the player, yes,” Wenger told beIN Sports of Mahrez, who earlier this week handed in a transfer request at Leicester.

The Algerian scored 17 goals during Leicester City’s victorious EPL campaign in the 2015-16 season which led to his transfer value growing exponentially from $4.5 million to $30.1 million.

However in the following season his form dipped and he scored only six goals in 36 matches.

“I think he made a huge impact when they won the championship. Like everybody else at Leicester, this season has been more challenging, but it doesn’t take away from his qualities.

“Have we made a bid for him? No. Not yet. No, we have not. When I say ‘not yet’ it means it could happen. It might not happen,” Wenger said.

Wenger has also refuted speculation that he is selling his star players Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

“This summer first of all they will stay at the club and hopefully we can extend their contract,” said Wenger.

“You cannot weaken the club and weaken the team, and you want to strengthen the team unless you find a player of the same calibre if they absolutely want to leave. I believe that at the moment we are not on that front, we are focused on keeping the team together and seeing how to strengthen the team.”

Wenger’s dreams of keeping Sanchez could well be in danger as various news reports have emerged which reveal that representatives of the Chilean striker have started negotiations with Arsenal’s EPL rivals Manchester City and Chelsea.

In order to prevent him from leaving, Arsenal are ready to offer Sanchez £270,000 ($3,48,000) a week. Sanchez, though, wants a minimum of £300,000 ($3,82,500).

“This summer, first of all, they will stay at the club and hopefully we can extend their contract,” Wenger said.

Wenger signed a two-year contract on Wednesday and now has the task of keeping both Ozil and Sanchez to the club with the players entering the final year of their current contracts.

“I believe, at the moment, we’re not on that front. We’re focused on keeping the team together and to see how we can strengthen the team,” the Frenchman said.

“When you sign a contract somewhere, you commit to give your best until the end of the last day of that contract. I would say ‘why should they not give their best?’.

“The interest of any player is always to play football and well, even more so at the end of your contract. If you’re a winner, you want to win the game you’re playing,” he added.

Sanchez ended the season with 30 goals and 15 assists and guided the team to the FA Cup final by scoring the opening goal against Chelsea. Ozil was not that effective throughout the season, with 12 goals and 13 assists.

Arsenal Reignite Interest In Premier League Star As He Releases Statement Asking To Leave The Club

Arsenal has reportedly re-ignited their interest in Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez. The Gunners were heavily linked with a move for the Algeria international last summer after his integral role in Leicester’s Premier League-winning campaign.

However, the 26-year resisted a move to the Emirates and confirmed his loyalty with the Foxes by signing a new deal to remain at the King Power Stadium until June 2020.  But as per reports in the Daily Mirror, the North London giants are still hoping to sign Mahrez and are once again ready to test Leicester’s resolve. The report added that Arsenal is all set to sign the winger if he is available for the right price.

Moreover, their chances of signing the Algerian will be boosted after the 2016 PFA player of the year announced he wants to quit the club. Leicester endured a torrid time in the Premier League as title defenders and finished a lowly 12th after recovering from a disastrous start. And with any hopes of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League looking bleak in near future, Mahrez has expressed his desire of leaving the club which he joined in 2014 from French club Le Havre.

In a statement, Mahrez wrote:

“Out of the huge admiration and respect I hold for Leicester, I wanted to be totally honest and transparent. I have informed the club that I feel now is the time for me to move on.

“I had a good discussion with the chairman last summer and we agreed at that time that I would stay for another year in order to help the club as best as I could following the transition of winning the title and in the Champions League.

“I’ve had the four best seasons of my career at Leicester and have loved every moment. I feel immense pride to have been a part of what we have achieved during my time at the club, culminating in becoming Premier League champions.

“The relationship I share with the club and our amazing fans are something I will treasure forever and I truly hope they will understand and respect my decision,” he added.

However, it will be interesting to see whether Mahrez opts for Arsenal if they come knocking as the Gunners have also failed to make it to the Champions League after finishing fifth.

But reports are suggesting that Wenger is desperate to sign the Leicester City star especially with Alexis Sanchez heavily linked with a departure from the club. Wenger is also linked with  AC Milan striker Carlos Bacca and France winger Thomas Lemar.

Sell Me, Winger Mahrez Tells Leicester City

Leicester, May 30 (IANS) Leicester City’s star winger Riyad Mahrez on Tuesday handed a transfer request to the 2015-16 English football champions saying he wants to challenge for major honours next season.

Mahrez played a major role in helping the low profile club defy all the odds to win the English Premier League (EPL) title last season. Leicester finished 12th in this EPL season and their high was reaching the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, with Mahrez scoring 10 goals across all competitions.

“Out of the huge admiration and respect, I hold for Leicester City Football Club I wanted to be totally honest and transparent with them and have therefore informed the club that I feel now is the time for me to move on,” Mahrez was quoted as saying by www.mirror.co.uk.

“I had a good discussion with the chairman last summer and we agreed at that time that I would stay for another year in order to help the club as best as I could following the transition of winning the title and in the Champions League,” the Algeria international added.

“However, I am fiercely ambitious and feel that now is the time to move on to a new experience.”

According to media reports in England, Leicester will demand around $35 million to sell the 26-year-old.

Barcelona Have To Pay £40 million To Sign Riyad Mahrez

Riyad Mahrez has been a fraction of the player he was last season when he helped Leicester City win the Premier League and caught the interest of Barcelona, Chelsea and Arsenal.

The Gunners bid couldn’t tempt the Algeria international away from the King Power Stadium, who decided to snub the interest of some of Europe’s biggest clubs in order to sign a new four-year £100,000-a-week deal with the Foxes.

Mahrez shook up the Premier League last campaign – producing 17 goals and 11 assists in the Premier League on his way to being named the PFA Player of the Year – and set a new benchmark for himself.

But despite all the hype surrounding Leicester’s players last season, Mahrez – recognised as the best in the league last campaign – has been unable to woo football fans in the same way as he did in 2015/16.Barcelona Have To Pay £40 million To Sign Riyad Mahrez 2

The 26-year-old, much like the Foxes’ form, has nosedived this season – scoring five goals – and would have many believing that the former Le Havre winger’s dreams of playing alongside the likes of Lionel Messi were all but over.

Mahrez stated last season: “It’s not my goal or my dream, but obviously everyone wants to play with Messi. One day, maybe. Why not?

“I always watch Barcelona on the TV at home because I like how they play. To me, Messi is the best of the best. You can’t say anything to him, he’s the boss.”

According to the Telegraph, however, Barcelona are still very much interested in Mahrez, who is starting to show glimpses of the form he produced last season, along with Leicester’s current revival in a bid to avoid relegation.

The Foxes, though, are in the perfect position to demand a hefty fee for the Algerian who has three years remaining on his current deal and will only let their star man leave for the Camp Nou if the Catalan giants are willing to meet their £40 million price tag.

Mahrez has no release clause in his current deal and having signed a new contract just last August, the reigning Premier League champions will not be bullied by their European counterparts and will demand their best possible price.

Leicester managed to negotiate a £30 million fee for N’Golo Kante to Chelsea last summer, Barcelona Have To Pay £40 million To Sign Riyad Mahrez 3and Mahrez seems destined to be the next big name to leave the club with Barcelona ready to test the club’s resolve – having had a consistent interest in the winger for the past 12 months.

But before any potential move to Spain for Mahrez is on the cards, he and his Foxes side will travel the country themselves for their Champions League quarter-final against Atletico Madrid where they will, once again, look to use their underdog status to their advantage.

Mahrez Now A Top Transfer Target For Liverpool This Summer

The victory against Tottenham Hotspur at the start of the previous month would have given Liverpool fans some home for a finish in the top-4 this season but they were back to their ways on their trip to the King Power, in the last round of the Premier League.

Jamie Vardy’s brace and Danny Drinkwater’s stunner were enough for the Champions of England to take all three points from their game against Jurgen Klopp’s side and this game showed more and more of the weaknesses Klopp’s side is carrying this season.

However, the Reds are still within a shot at top-4 come the end of the season and Jurgen Klopp has already started his search for players who can join the club at the end of the season.

This has seen the club linked with a number of star players from around Europe but one name that is extensively doing the rounds today is Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez.

Mahrez Now A Top Transfer Target For Liverpool This Summer 4

The PFA Player of the Year for the previous season, Riyad Mahrez, was as important as, if not more, Jamie Vardy the English striker who was in devastating form in the previous season.

His performances saw a number of clubs make a move for him in the summer with Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal extensively linked with him for almost a month.

However, Claudio Ranieri managed to keep him at the club for the long term and left Arsenal empty handed.

The Foxes have moved out of the drop zone, thanks to the victory over Liverpool but they are in great danger of going down after an atrocious run of form recently.

They have also lost their title winning manager and this might see a number of star players leave the club at the end of the season.

Mahrez Now A Top Transfer Target For Liverpool This Summer 5

The likes of Jamie Vardy, Demerai Gray, Ben Chilwell and Kasper Schmeichel are all linked with an exit and Liverpool are now trying to lure Mahrez away this summer.

Italian media outfit  Tuttomercatoweb claims that Mahrez is now Liverpool’s top priority transfer target at the end of the season.

From 17 goals and 11 assists last season, Mahrez has fallen to just 4 goals and 3 assists in the Premier League but at just 26,he has most of his career ahead of him and Klopp wants the best part of his career to be at Anfield.

Reports from the Daily Mail today claim that he is ready to quit which has also alerted Arsene Wenger at Arsenal but it is understood that Liverpool will be frontrunners for his signature when the transfer window is open this summer.

Do you think Mahrez will move to Anfield?
