Royal Challengers Bangalore-RCB - Page 2

Royal Challengers Bangalore represent the city of Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The franchise was owned by Vijay Mallya, who paid US$111.6 million for it. This was the second highest bid for a team in the IPL, next only to Reliance Industries Ltd.'s bid of $111.9 million for the Mumbai Indians bangalore cricket stadium records

Royal Challengers Bangalore have qualified for three finals till date and have lost all of them (in 2009 to the Deccan Chargers, in 2011 to the Chennai Super Kings and in 2016 to the Sunrisers Hyderabad). They also ended up runners in the now-scrapped Champions League T20 once when they lost the final against the Mumbai Indians in 2011.

The early struggle:
Ahead of the inaugural season, the Bangalore-based franchise picked up some big names in their squad. Rahul Dravid was the icon player and the captain while the likes of Jacques Kallis, Anil Kumble, Praveen Kumar, Nathan Bracken and Cameron White were bought in the auction.

However, their performance was totally unexpected. Despite having some of the best players in their ranks, they could win only 4 matches in the inaugural season, losing 10 matches and finishing second from the bottom in the table.

The improvement:
Ahead of the second season, RCB bought the likes of Kevin Pietersen, Jesse Ryder and Robin Uthappa to improve their fortunes.

However, their season did not start on a promising note under new captain Kevin Pietersen. But the team's fortunes changed when Pietersen left for national duty and Anil Kumble was named his replacement. At the end of the league stage, they had won 8 of their 14 games to make it to the last four.

In the semi-final they beat the Chennai Super Kings convincingly but ended up on the losing side in the final against Deccan Chargers.

In 2010, the Royal Challengers Bangalore finished the season in the third position and thereby booked their spot in the 2010 Champions League Twenty20. They progressed till the semifinal in the Champions League before being beaten by Chennai Super Kings.

In 2011, RCB came up with another good display but were eventually heartbroken. They made it to the final once again but ended up on the losing side as Chennai Super Kings won their second consecutive title.
The barren runs:
Royal Challengers Bangalore have been the perennial underachievers in the league so far. Despite boasting one of the strongest teams in the league, they always failed to live up to the expectations. The period from 2012 to 2014 saw the club performing poorly despite having the likes of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers in their ranks.

In 2012, they finished fifth in the table after winning 8 of the 16 games at the league stage. In the following year, they managed to win one game more but the position remained the same as they missed the top half of the standing once again.

Their performance only deepened in 2014. Ahead of the season, Virat Kohli was named the captain of the team. Before the auction, AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli were retained from the previous seasons. However, the trio failed to inspire the team to a better season. The Royal Challengers finished a lowly seventh position after winning just 5 of the 14 games.

The improvement:
After three forgettable outings, the Royal Challengers finally had something to celebrate in 2015. They ended the league stage at the third position, with 7 wins from 14 matches. In the Eliminator, they defeated Rajasthan Royals before losing to Chennai Super Kings in the second Qualifier.

In 2016, they were staring down the barrel after losing 5 of their opening 7 games. However, they went on to win six of their next 7 games to finish at an unlikely second position at the end of the league stage.

In the first Qualifier, they defeated table-toppers Gujarat Lions. But their winning run came to an end in the final as Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated them to win their maiden IPL title.

In 2017, Royal Challengers Bangalore had another disastrous outing. They finished at the bottom of the table after winning just 3 games during the league stage.

Home ground:
The home ground of the Royal Challengers is the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

Team logo and jersey colour:
Initially, the logo had the RC emblem in yellow on a circular red base with the black text "Royal Challengers Bangalore" in standard format surrounding circular logo.

In 2009, the yellow color was replaced by gold. The Bangalore-based outfit also uses an alternate logo for the Game for Green matches where the green plants surround the logo and the text Game for Green is placed below the logo. The logo was redesigned in 2016 with the inclusion of black as a secondary color. The lion emblem in the crest was enlarged and the shield was omitted in the new design.

In 2008, the jersey color of the team was red and golden yellow. However, the yellow color was later removed and was replaced by gold. From 2010, blue was introduced on the apparel as a tertiary color.

In 2016, black replaced the blue colour as the third colour in the two versions of the jersey - one for home matches and the other for away ones.

IPL 2021: Daniel Vettori Believes AB de Villiers Should Bat Higher Up The Order For RCB

Daniel Vettori, former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain believes AB de Villiers should be batting higher up the order for the franchise. Daniel Vettori played for RCB in 2011-2012.

Coming in to bat at No.5 against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Friday, AB de Villiers scored a magnificent 48 off 27 balls to help RCB win the IPL 2021 opener.

Daniel Vettori: It Was AB De Villiers Again Who Showed His Class But No. 5 Is Pretty Low For A Player Of His Quality

While Washington Sundar opened with skipper Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar was sent in at No.3, pushing AB De Villiers down the order. Daniel Vettori feels demoting AB de Villiers wasn’t the right move as he is too good a player to be batting at the No.5 position.

Daniel Vettori told ESPN Cricinfo: “We have talked so many times about how RCB relies on either AB de Villiers or Virat Kohli. They got a little cameo from (Glenn) Maxwell as well. But in the end, it was De Villiers again who showed his class.

“They put him down to No. 5, which is pretty low for a player of his quality. But they got the result they wanted because of his ability and his maturity to get them through. It was a wonderful innings. Apart from him and Maxwell, no one really looked fluent at all for RCB throughout the innings.”

Chasing 160 for victory, RCB was once placed at 122 for 6. However, AB De Villiers came up with the goods to help his side win the thrilling contest. Although the South African legend was run out in the last over, RCB sneaked home by two wickets.

With Washington Sundar opening the innings alongside Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar and Glenn Maxwell were sent in ahead of AB de Villiers. AB de Villiers came up with another of his exhilarating knocks, hitting 48 from just 27 balls to help RCB get past the finish line and win a season opener for the first time in the history of the IPL.

AB De Villiers: It Was An Incredible Cricket On Display And RCB Was Under Pressure To Negotiate MI Bowling Lineup

Reflecting on his side’s thrilling win in the opening game of IPL 2021, AB de Villiers said that RCB versus MI games always seem to produce incredible cricket.

“It was an incredible game of cricket, always seems to be against Mumbai. We obviously came in knowing it wasn’t going to be easy. I knew halfway it was going to get tough. It’s one of those pitches that gets harder as the game goes on. They have a wonderful bowling line up that put us under pressure,” AB de Villiers said.

Although AB de Villiers is a brilliant runner between the wickets, he was run out against MI.

Reflecting on his dismissal, he added: “There was an easy two in my opinion, but as I started it felt like I was running backwards. Krunal got it spot on with the throw.”

Apart from AB de Villiers’ brilliance with the bat, Harshal Patel claimed five wickets to restrict the Mumbai Indians to just 159 runs. Harshal Patel was named Man of the Match for his efforts.

Speaking to the media in a virtual interaction on Thursday, a day before RCB open their 2021 season against Mumbai Indians, the Aussie said, “It has been nice to slip straight into the squad. “I am looking forward to this season and hopefully we can go a couple of steps further than last year.”

Glenn Maxwell failed at UAE in 2020 where he managed to score only 108 runs averaging a pathetic 15.42 at a strike rate of below 102 for KXIP and was subsequently released. On the other hand, for RCB, AB De Villiers managed 454 runs in 15 games averaging 45.4 while Virat Kohli managed 466 runs averaging 42.66 in IPL 2020.

Virat Kohli Opens Up On Specifically Targeting Glenn Maxwell During The IPL 2021 Auction

Virat Kohli, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain spoke at length in the latest episode of ‘Bold Diaries’ about Glenn Maxwell — and how his team management targeted the Australian all-rounder in the IPL 2021 auction held at Chennai in February

Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli is thrilled at the prospect of having Glenn Maxwell in his squad this season as they begin their hunt for the elusive IPL title when the tournament begins on April 9.

Virat Kohli Specifically Targeted Glenn Maxwell At The IPL Auction

RCB shelled out a whopping Rs 14.25 crore for Glenn Maxwell, who was released by Punjab Kings(formerly KXIP) earlier this year following a relatively sub-standard performance in IPL 2020. The Australian all-rounder has a very underwhelming record in the IPL but was still hot property at the mini-auction in February.

Even before the auction, Glenn Maxwell had expressed his desire to play for RCB under his good friend Virat Kohli, who was also keen on having the Aussie star in his squad this season.

The Indian and RCB skipper opened up about the Australian all-rounder and how the RCB think-tank targeted him in the auction in the latest episode of ‘Bold Diaries’.

“We wanted Maxi, specifically targeted him at the auction in February. You obviously feel great when things end up happening to where you thought they would.”

“Zamps sent me that picture of them (Zampa and Maxwell) at a practice session handing over the RCB cap even before the auction happened. Zamps a very funny guy, thought it was hilarious and I sent it to Maxi as well.”

“He’s a good guy, we’ve caught up in the past as well when I was in Australia on a tour. He’s just very happy to be in RCB and I see different energy about him this time,” Virat Kohli told RCB’s Danish Sait.

Glenn Maxwell has played 82 IPL matches where he has amassed 1505 runs and picked up 19 wickets. He failed at UAE in 2020 where he managed to score only 108 runs averaging a pathetic 15.42 at a strike rate of below 102.

Virat Kohli Feels Lot Of Experience Added In RCB Team This Time

Virat Kohli went on to add that he doesn’t want anyone in his squad to feel as though he is the focal point in the team so that it doesn’t put undue pressure on the player.

RCB will take on Mumbai Indians in the tournament-opener in Chennai on Friday. RCB bought Glenn Maxwell (Rs 14.25 crore, Kyle Jamieson (Rs 15 crore), Dan Christian (Rs 4.8 crore), and 5 other players at their base price. KS Bharat, Suyash Prabhudessai, Mohammed Azharuddeen, Rajat Patidar, Sachin Baby were the other 5 buys.

“I don’t think as much as you guys, I mean you as in within your team, want to be the match-winner. You don’t want to be the centre of attention all the time and I think that’s something that happened with Maxwell. There’s too much focus and attention on you.”

“We have decided to pick him, he’s not demanding to go to any team. When you decide to pick a player its very important to manage the player as well. And I think having guys like Maxi, Dan Christian, Kyle Jamieson… lot of experience that we’ve added in the team this time.”

“We have a squad where we don’t want anyone to be the focal point of the team, we want a strong squad all over that can feed off each other and have a great balance and move forward in one direction.

“And that has to be the communication within our group as well. No one is going to be put in with the most amount of load and the others just do auxiliary work. Everyone has to pull together so the weight is spread evenly and then all the situations can be tackled accordingly,” Virat Kohli stated.

The team retained just 12 players while releasing as many as 10 players that included some notable names like Aaron Finch, Chris Morris, and Moeen Ali. RCB traded Harshal Patel and Daniel Sams from Delhi Capitals (DC).

IPL 2021 gets underway with five-time champions and holders Mumbai Indians taking on Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai on April 9.

RCB Probable Playing XI: Virat Kohli(c), Finn Allen (wk)/ Devdutt Padikkal, AB De Villiers, Glenn Maxwell, Mohammed Azharuddeen/ Rajat Patidar, Washington Sundar,  Kyle Jamieson, Mohammed Siraj, Shahbaz Ahmed/ Dan Christian, Navdeep Saini, Yuzvendra Chahal.

Glenn Maxwell Reckons It’s Difficult To Stay In Bio Bubbles And Move From One To Another

Glenn Maxwell, big-hitting Australian all-rounder says being continuously confined to bio-bubbles amidst Covid-19 can become a “nightmare” and cricketers are leading a “difficult lifestyle” right now to ensure that they continue to do their job.

Glenn Maxwell was expected to trigger a bidding war at the IPL 2021 auction owing to his skills and international pedigree despite his flop show in IPL 2020 for Kings XI Punjab(now Punjab Kings). RCB bought the star Australian all-rounder after beating CSK in an intense bidding war.

Glenn Maxwell, who had his share of problems with mental fatigue in the past, admitted that adjusting to such a life amidst the pandemic is definitely taking a toll on players around the world.

“It’s very difficult (to move from one bubble to other)…you being sheltered from people outside your bio-secure bubble and you get stuck into this never-ending nightmare where you are living the same day over and over again,” he said in an interview posted by his IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore on its youtube channel.

“You almost tend to forget how to have a normal conversation with the outside world. That can be very hard mentally and is a massive challenge. But it’s great to be back playing and to be able to do our jobs and entertain people. But it’s still a difficult lifestyle at the moment,” he said.

“It does put a strain on a lot of relationships as well. You need your support networks to get you through those tough times.”

Talking about the upcoming IPL 2021, Glenn Maxwell said couldn’t care less for all the chatter around his hefty price tag despite underwhelming past performances as he is excited about living a long-cherished dream of playing alongside Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers.

Despite poor outings in the last two IPLs, Glenn Maxwell managed to earn big bucks when RCB signed him for a whopping INR 14.25 crore.

“It’s been a long time (dream of playing alongside Kohli and de Villiers). Obviously having known them very well off the field, played against them fair bit but finally I got to play in the same team,” Maxwell said in an interview posted RCB on its youtube page.

“I thought that there might be a little bit of interest. A lot of teams have brought that middle-order overseas player but I knew a couple of teams were looking at a batting off-spinner and I am glad that two teams went harder and RCB got hold of me.”

The team retained just 12 players while releasing as many as 10 players that included some notable names like Aaron Finch, Chris Morris, and Moeen Ali. RCB traded Harshal Patel and Daniel Sams from Delhi Capitals (DC).

Glenn Maxwell Is Excited To Get Going In IPL 2021

He said his vast experience of playing in Indian conditions could turn out to be handy for Virat Kohli and the RCB in their endeavor to lift a maiden IPL title.

“…I think my performances will take care of themselves. I want to have a positive influence of everything I do, be it attitude, helping out around the team, leadership wise helping out Virat when he needs it… I suppose with my experience, I think it’s my 22nd trip to India… so with that sort of experience you have got to help out the rest of the group,” Maxwell said.

Glenn Maxwell said having spent the entire lockdown period with his fiancee at his Melbourne home, he is feeling fresh now and can’t wait to take the field for his new IPL side.

“I was so excited to get going. A new team, a new tournament we are back in India after Dubai last year, I was so excited. Happy to be outside of quarantine. It was nice to see some friendly faces, meet a few new people, get out and run around.Hopefully, that lifts other people as well when they see you happy running around. It can be infectious, it can spread through the group pretty quickly as much as a negative reaction can.”

Glenn Maxwell has so far played 82 IPL matches where he has amassed 1505 runs and picked up 19 wickets. He failed at UAE in 2020 where he managed to score only 108 runs averaging a pathetic 15.42 at a strike rate of below 102. He was subsequently released by Punjab Kings ahead of the IPL auction last week.

Ahead of the 2021 season, Timesofindia.com caught up with the very talented 20-year-old left-handed batsman for an exclusive interview, before he tested positive, mostly to talk about his impressive domestic season, playing alongside Virat Kohli, meeting batting legend Rahul Dravid and cricketing role models.

“I have matured with time and the way I have been batting. I really learned a lot in terms of building an innings and getting those big runs because I used to have problems with getting out a number of times in the 70s and 80s. In the last couple of years, I have really worked a lot on my batting to build an innings and to have a clear set of plans,”Devdutt Padikkal on dominating the domestic season and hitting back-to-back centuries.

“I had an incredible outing at RCB last year. Playing alongside Virat bhai and ABD and all other cricketers was great. It was an incredible experience. Every day I was learning something new from Virat and ABD. The way they carry themselves in the international tournaments and in IPL, which is a long tournament, is amazing,” Devdutt Padikkal on experience to play alongside players like Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers in RCB.

“The passion and hunger he has for the game, it’s incredible. He has that kind of drive towards the game. He doesn’t need anyone to push or motivate. He has so much fire to perform and give the best for the country or team. That is something I really want to have in myself,”Devdutt Padikkal on biggest thing learnt from Virat Kohli.

“The side is looking strong. We have star players. I had a huge learning (curve) last season and will aim to carry on the same show in the IPL too. Looking forward to scoring a good amount of runs for RCB and helping the team win the title,” Devdutt Padikkal on RCB’s chances this season.

“The ultimate goal for any cricketer is to play for the country. I also want to represent my country.I am trying to improve my game every day and take it to the next level so that whenever the opportunity arises, I can grab it with both hands,” Devdutt Padikkal on chances of playing for India some day.

RCB has retained just 12 squad members and released 10 players before IPL 2021 Auction. RCB released Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Gurkeerat Singh Mann, Aaron Finch, Chris Morris, Pavan Negi, Parthiv Patel (retired), Dale Steyn (unavailable), Isuru Udana, Umesh Yadav from their IPL 2020 squad before IPL 2021.

Devdutt Padikkal Opens Up On Rahul Dravid And Gautam Gambhir

RCB has acquired the services of in-form Mohammed Azharudeen, Rajat Patidar, Daniel Sams, Sachin Baby, Daniel Christian, and Srikar Bharat.

Royal Challengers Bangalore splurged a whopping INR 29.25 crore on two overseas all-rounders in Glenn Maxwell and Kyle Jamieson during the IPL 2021 auction held in Chennai. Despite spending a maximum of INR 84.65 crore, Royal Challengers have the least number of players (22). Later, Finn Allen replaced Josh Phillipe who opted out.

“I have spoken with Rahul (Dravid) sir a few times. Whenever I have the chance, I have met him. I met him at the KCA most of the time. He is such a humble person. He is ready to give any kind of advice whenever I need it,” on learning from Rahul Dravid.

“I started playing cricket when I was nine years old. It started off as a hobby and then my parents took me to a summer camp. I never thought I would take up cricket as a profession. But once I shifted to Bangalore for cricket, because Bangalore had a really good infrastructure for cricket and spent more time at the crease, I realised this is something I should do professionally. My parents supported me a lot,” on cricketing journey.

“For me, there is not one individual who has inspired me. Every person has a separate story and everyone really has gone through with some things to get there in their career. I take inspiration from every cricketer who has played for India because getting there is not easy at all. It takes a lot to get there. They have done a lot to reach that level and contributed to the country,” said he on inspiration.

“But my role model is Gautam Gambhir in cricket.”

Moeen Ali’s Request To Remove Alcohol Brand Logo Granted By CSK Management

Moeen Ali asked the Chennai Super Kings management to remove the alcohol brand logo from his jersey and the franchise agreed to the England all-rounder’s request.

England all-rounder Moeen Ali has requested the Chennai Super Kings management to remove a certain sponsor logo from his jersey due to his faith’s ban on alcohol.

Moeen Ali’s Faith Forbids Him From Consuming Alcohol And Asked CSK Management To Remove Logo Of SNJ 10000 From His Jersey

Moeen Ali is a practising Muslim and his faith forbids him from consuming alcohol. He doesn’t support logos of alcohol brands on any of his jerseys, whether it is for England or any other domestic side he plays for around the world.  The Chennai Super Kings jersey has the logo of SNJ 10000, which is a surrogate product brand of Chennai-based SNJ Distilleries. The CSK management has agreed to his request and removed the logo from his match jersey.

CSK bought the 33-year-old for a whopping Rs 7 crore at the IPL 2021 auction in February. This is Moeen Ali’s second IPL franchise after Royal Challengers Bangalore, with whom he played for 3 seasons since 2018. Moeen Ali has played 19 IPL matches so far, scoring 309 runs and picked 10 wickets.

He disappointed though in IPL 2020 playing 3 games scoring only 12 runs and picking a solitary scalp. Last month Moeen Ali expressed his excitement at playing under former India captain MS Dhoni at CSK this season.

“I’ve spoken to players who have played under MS and they tell me how he improves their game. I believe a great captain does that,” Moeen was quoted as saying by the CSK website.

“I think it’s something on every player’s wish list to play under MS. I think it’s the confidence and the clarity he gives people. It’s exciting,” he added.

Three-time champions Chennai Super Kings will be opening their IPL 2021 campaign against Rishabh Pant’s Delhi Capitals on April 10 at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai.

CSK’s Probable Squad May Feature Likes Of Suresh Raina, Moeen Ali, And Ruturaj Gaikwad In Starting XI

Suresh Raina who is one of IPL’s most successful batsmen will make his comeback in IPL 2021 for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Suresh Raina’s decision to opt-out of IPL 2020 even before the start of the tournament last year in UAE was one of the biggest talking points of the Indian Premier League held in UAE.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had a forgettable campaign in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, but by the end of the tournament, after finishing 7th in the points table, they had found a new star in young Ruturaj Gaikwad who produced a commendable fightback after initially struggling in the first three matches.

Ruturaj Gaikwad smashed a hat-trick of half-centuries in the last three games to amass 204 runs averaging 51 in 6 games after scoring 5 runs in the first 3 outings.

CSK spent big on acquiring services of England’s spinner Moeen Ali on the board while off-spinner Krishnappa Gowtham got a big contract from MS Dhoni’s 3-time champions besides acquiring a Test specialist batsman Cheteshwar Pujara who announced his desire to play limited-overs T20 cricket again.

The franchise also bought top-order batsman Robin Uthappa in a trade with Rajasthan Royals. They also have likes of N Jagadeesan and Mitchell Santner as back-ups and will try to find a replacement soon for pacer Josh Hazlewood who opted out from IPL 2021.

CSK Probable XI: Faf Du Plessis, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (c and wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Moeen Ali/ Dwayne Bravo, Sam Curran, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, Lungi Ngidi/ Imran Tahir.

Virat Kohli’s Opening Will Benefit RCB: Michael Vaughan

Michael Vaughan, former England captain believes that if Virat Kohli opens the inning for Royal Challengers Bangalore, it would be beneficial for the team.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan believes that Royal Challengers Bangalore will be a lot stronger by having captain Virat Kohli at the top of the order. Notably, Virat Kohli has confirmed that he will open the batting for RCB in IPL 2021.

Michael Vaughan: RCB Will Be A Lot Stronger If Virat Kohli Opens

Virat Kohli decided to promote himself in the batting order of the Indian team on Saturday as India took on England in the fifth T20I. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma brought carnage to the crease and stitched a match-winning 94-run opening stand to help India amass 224 for 2, their highest total against England.

India had been struggling at the top of the order with KL Rahul scoring 1,0,0, 14 in the first four T20Is, Virat Kohli had backed incumbent opener KL Rahul to come well up until the final match as his patience finally ran out with the Karnataka batsman.

It was only the eighth time in 84 innings that Virat Kohli opened the batting, but what worked against the world’s top-ranked team may also succeed in the format’s showcase tournament as well.

“He [Virat Kohli] could bat anywhere but I think they [Team India and RCB] have found something. I think the RCB will be a lot stronger by having Virat Kohli at the top of the order,” Michael Vaughan said on Cricbuzz.

“He will be so consistent on those wickets. If you ask any batsman that’s worth any kind of salt ‘Where would you like to bat in India?’, and you’ll get ‘I’ll open the batting please’,” Michael Vaughan added.

“I think he will have some fun over the next few months opening the batting. We are going to see some fine innings,” Michael Vaughan further said.

“I am going to open in the IPL as well,” Kohli, who leads Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League, said at the presentation ceremony after India clinched the decider by 36 runs.

RCB has retained just 12 squad members and released 10 players before IPL 2021 Auction. RCB released Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Gurkeerat Singh Mann, Aaron Finch, Chris Morris, Pavan Negi, Parthiv Patel (retired), Dale Steyn (unavailable), Isuru Udana, Umesh Yadav from their IPL 2020 squad before IPL 2021.

RCB bought Mohammed Azharuddeen, Daniel Christian, Srikar Bharat, Rajat Patidar, Sachin Baby, Suyash Prabhudessai apart from Glenn Maxwell and Kyle Jamieson.

Virat Kohli Said He Would Definitely Like To Partner Rohit Sharma At The Top

Virat Kohli top-scored with 80 not out as India reached 224 for 2 in 20 overs. The 80 is his highest score as an opener in T20Is. He has amassed 278 runs averaging 39.72 with 2 fifties in 8 innings atop the order.

“I have batted in different positions in the past. But I feel we do have a solid middle-order now. And now it’s about our two best players getting the maximum number of overs in T20I cricket.”

“I would definitely like to partner Rohit at the top. As I rightly said, if we have a partnership and both are set, one of us will do the damage and the other guys feel a lot more confident when one of us is still in and is set and know they can play more freely. It augurs well for the team. Hopefully, it will continue and we continue the form into the World Cup,” he added.

India made a big change in its batting order in the 5th and final T20I against England as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli walked out to the middle of the crease after England opted to field in the series-decider. The decision paid off as the veteran duo stitched an opening partnership worth 94 runs which was their highest in the series.

Aaron Finch Biggest Disappointment: Aakash Chopra

Aaron Finch turned out to be the biggest disappointment for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2020 as felt by renowned commentator Aakash Chopra.

Chopra made this observation while reviewing the Virat Kohli-led side’s season in a video shared on his YouTube channel. Aaron Finch has scored at an average of 40 in ODIs and 38 in T20Is and is Australia’s limited-overs skipper which wasn’t reciprocated in IPL 2020 where he failed miserably with the bat despite getting many chances.

Aaron Finch Had A Whole Lot Of Chances But The Form Or Run Wasn’t Seen: Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra picked Aaron Finch as the biggest letdown for RCB in IPL 2020, considering the huge expectations the franchise had from him.

“Aaron Finch was the biggest disappointment for RCB this season. They had put huge stakes on him and stuck with him for a long time as well. You expect the Finch hitting from him.”

The reputed commentator observed that RCB reposed significant faith in Aaron Finch having bought him for 4 crores. He highlighted that franchise made the aggressive opener play the first eleven matches even though he was not amongst the runs, which was unlike the way Moeen Ali was handled.

Moeen Ali

“He got a whole lot of chances to bat. So no one can say that he played in this team and was not given the chances. You can say that for Moeen Ali, that he was in and out of the team but Aaron Finch played all the matches, I mean he played 10-12 matches at the start.”

The former KKR player said that the Australian limited-overs captain neither exhibited any form nor scored the runs as expected despite consistent backing. Aakash Chopra illustrated that RCB then tried out wicket-keeper Joshua Philippe at the top of the order, which also did not yield the desired required results.

“But the form was not seen at all. Neither the form was seen nor the runs. He was even dropped at the end and then brought back again because Joshua Philippe did not do a great job either.”

Aaron Finch didn’t even finish among top 30 run-scorers while Moeen Ali scored a meagre 12 runs from 3 matches. Josh Phillippe and Gurkeerat Mann Singh scored 71 runs each and were also behind RCB’s downfall.

Aakash Chopra: Lot Of Expectations Were From Aaron Finch Who Was Expected To Give Starts

Aakash Chopra observed that RCB would have expected Aaron Finch to deliver at the top of the order alongside opener Devdutt Padikkal as it would have considerably eased the pressure on middle-order consisting of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers.

“But you had more expectations from Aaron Finch. Because imagine if Devdutt Padikkal was playing well from one side and Aaron Finch had been playing well, then the pressure and responsibility would have been less on Virat and AB de Villiers.”

He added that an established opener like him is expected to give performances like the ones delivered by Quinton de Kock for the Mumbai Indians and the pair of KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal for the Kings XI Punjab who all were among top 15 run-scorers in IPL 2020.

“And you need a Quinton de Kock type of performance or say the KL Rahul or Mayank Agarwal type of performance that suddenly catapults your team to greater heights.”

Aaron Finch

Aakash Chopra concluded by observing that Aaron Finch’s lack of form was one of the primary reasons behind RCB being unable to finish higher than the fourth position in the league table.

“But that did not happen with this team. And the main reason for that was the big-stake player who was played, that is Aaron Finch and from RCB’s perspective he was a bit of a disappointment.”

Aaron Finch managed to score just 268 runs in 12 matches he played in IPL 2020, at a substandard average of 22.33 and at an even more pathetic strike rate of 111.20. He had just a solitary fifty-plus score in the tournament and didn’t give RCB the starts that were needed from a batsman of his repute.

IPL 2020: Brian Lara Believes RCB Had A Loss After Letting Go This Australian Allrounder

There is a long list of players who have attained success for other franchises after Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have released them. Quinton de Kock, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal are some players who belong to this list. But the recent player which is part of this list is Marcus Stoinis. RCB had released the Australian allrounder last year and was bought by Delhi Capitals ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.

Marcus Stoinis is having an extraordinary season for Delhi Capitals. With his fast bowling, he has picked wickets at crucial stages while his power-hitting ability has created a huge impact on DC’s result. He has become the key man for Delhi, who are striving to lift the maiden title. The West Indies legend, Brian Lara is also impressed with his allrounder performance.

Heaping the praise on Marcus Stoinis, Brian Lara also indirectly remarked that Royal Challengers Bangalore had made a mistake by letting him go last year, but it was gain for Delhi Capitals.

“He got let off by RCB last year and see what he’s doing for DC this year,” Brian Lara said on Star Sports.

Stonis so far has made 352 runs and picked up 12 wickets this season. In the second qualifier, which was a do-or-die match, he was promoted to the opening position and gave a satisfactory start, scoring 38 runs off 27 balls. Although it was a short spell, he gave a good base to the middle-order batsmen to take the game forward.

While defending 190 runs target, he bowled magical three overs to take DC closer to their IPL dream. The fast bowler snared the wickets of Priyam Garg and Manish Pandey before picking the crucial wicket of Kane Williamson to seal the deal for his side.

With DC entering maiden IPL final, Stoinis will have a huge role to play up in the batting order while also giving breakthroughs at crunch situations.

On the fourth ball of that innings, Shreevats Goswami was dismissed by Mohammed Siraj for a duck. In the late moment of the powerplay, Siraj took another wicket as he dismissed another opener and captain David Warner for 17 runs. Though the on-field umpire originally gave not out decision in that caught behind the appeal, the RCB took the review and after monitoring closely along with using the Ultra Edge system, that decision was finally changed in RCB’s favour. However, there was no clear evidence to completely support any decision.

In the ninth over, Adam Zampa dismissed Manish Pandey for 24 runs. Later, in the 12th over, Yuzvendra Chahal took the wicket of Priyam Garg (7). At that stage, SRH were struggling on 67/4.

But Kane Williamson batted superbly which helped their side to fight back. Williamson and Holder put 65 runs partnership for the unbroken fifth wicket and it helped SRH to achieve the success in that chase.

While Williamson scored 50 not out off 44 balls (2 fours and 2 sixes), Jason Holder remained not out on 24 runs off 20 balls (3 fours).
