The series against Sri Lanka will mark Prithvi Shaw’s return into the Indian dressing room after getting dropped last year, due to failure during the Australia Tests. However, the 21-year-old earned the spot in the limited-overs squad following a terrific domestic season and some mind-blowing knocks in the IPL 2021.

“There is a different kind of enjoyment playing under Rahul sir. He was our India under-19 coach. The way he speaks, the way he shares his coaching experience, is just amazing.

“Whenever he talks about the game, it shows how much experience he brings to the table. He knows everything about cricket. The way he speaks on conditions and how to use them is just out of this world,” Prithvi was quoted as saying.

After having his technique scrutinized following scores of 0 and 2 during the first India-Australia Test of the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, he went back, worked on his batting, and returned with stellar returns in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he became the first player to amass over 800 runs in a single edition of the tournament.

Prithvi Shaw Was Desperate To Get Back Into The Indian Team

Prithvi Shaw further said he was desperate to get back into the team. He is keen to give his best since he is now in the team touring Sri Lanka comprising of youngsters.

“As Rahul sir is there, one will expect discipline in the dressing room. I’m looking ahead to the practice sessions with Rahul sir because I love to speak to him for hours. On this tour, I just have to grab the opportunity. I was desperate to get back into the Indian team. I have always kept the team above me. Be it India, Ranji Trophy team, club, or my school team. I want to give my best,” said Prithivi.

Prithvi Shaw has made a comeback to the Indian set-up for the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka in July. The 21-year-old faded away after making a dream start to his international career. A lean patch with the bat was followed by off-the-field controversies, which affected his career.

Prithvi Shaw Reveals He Lost Count Of Balls While Reminiscing Shivam Mavi’s 1st Over When He Hit 6 Fours

Prithvi Shaw has revealed that he lost count of the deliveries before Shikhar Dhawan told him there was another one left for the youngster to smash six boundaries in an over.

Prithvi Shaw hit six fours in the first over bowled by Shivam Mavi during the Delhi Capitals’ (DC) run-chase in their IPL 2021 encounter against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Prithvi Shaw Was Told By Shikhar Dhawan That There Was A Ball Left In Shivam Mavi’s 1st Over

During an interview with India News, Prithvi Shaw disclosed that he counted the wide bowled by Shivam Mavi before Shivam Dhawan reminded him that there was still one delivery left in the over.

“Actually I came to know after the fifth ball that a sixth ball was left because Mavi had bowled the first ball as a wide. So, I was counting that ball as well and it had slipped my mind. So, Shikhar Dhawan told me one more ball is left,” said Prithvi Shaw.

Prithvi Shaw stated that once he was aware of the situation, he made up his mind that the final delivery had to go for a boundary as well.

“Then it clicked me. I had not thought anything while hitting the first five boundaries. But I was definitely thinking about that before hitting the sixth boundary, that I have come close after hitting five boundaries in five balls and should try one more,” added Prithvi Shaw.

Prithvi Shaw smashed 82 runs off just 41 deliveries in that encounter as the Delhi Capitals chased down the 155-run target with seven wickets in hand and 21 deliveries to spare. Delhi Capitals opener Prithvi Shaw scored the fastest fifty of Indian Premier League 2021 on Thursday during the chase of 155 against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 25th match of the tournament in Ahmedabad.

Prithvi Shaw Knew Where Exactly Shivam Mave Will Bowl 6th Ball And Was Ready

Prithvi Shaw added that he predicted the delivery pacer Shivam Mavi would bowl and was careful not to hit it for a maximum. He scored a 41-ball 82 as DC pulled off a comprehensive 7-wicket win.

“I knew where exactly Mavi is going to bowl to me. So just when he released the sixth ball, I was ready. I had tightened my glutes and forearm, that whatever happens, I will hit this one. The only thing was that it should not go for a six if I hit it too hard,” Prthvi Shaw further said.

Prithvi Shaw concluded by stating that Shivam Mavi was upset with him, as they had a pre-match discussion where the pacer asked the diminutive batsman not to be too severe on him.

“Mavi is a very good bowler. He has played the under-19 World Cup with me. He and Kamlesh Nagarkoti are both my good friends. Before the match, I was telling him not to bowl too fast and he was telling me not to hit too much. So after the match, he was telling me that he had asked me not to hit,” signed off Shaw.

Kolkata Knight Riders’ Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti were India’s premier seamers in their title-winning run at the 2018 Under-19 World Cup under Prithvi Shaw. The two pacers took nine wickets apiece in the six matches India played in that tournament.

Prithvi Shaw provided a blistering start to DC in the chase in the IPL 2021 match. He hogged the limelight with his six consecutive boundaries against KKR pacer Shivam Mavi in the opening over. Interestingly, he is only the second batsman after his teammate Ajinkya Rahane to do so in the history of the league.

Prithvi Shaw has 308 runs in 8 matches averaging 38.5 at a staggering strike rate of 166.48 with 3 fifties. He is the 4th highest run-scorer in IPL 2021 and has hit the most boundaries after teammate fellow opener Shikhar Dhawan who is the highest run-scorer with 380 runs.

Prithvi Shaw Hits 6 Boundaries Off All The 6 Balls In The 1st Over

Prithvi Shaw provided a blistering start to DC in the chase in the IPL 2021 match. He hogged the limelight with his six consecutive boundaries against KKR pacer Shivam Mavi in the opening over. Interestingly, he is only the second batsman after his teammate Ajinkya Rahane to do so in the history of the league.

Earlier, Ajinkya Rahane had dished out similar treatment in 2012. Playing for the Rajasthan Royals, he hit six fours off six balls off the bowling of left-arm pacer Sreenath Aravind who was representing Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Rajasthan Royals, batting first were 82/1 in 13 overs before he hammered six fours in a row off Sreenath Aravind. Ajinkya Rahane went on to score a century, remaining not out on 103 off 60 balls as Royals beat RCB by 59 runs.

Virender Sehwag: Hitting Off 6 Consecutive Fours Isn’t An Easy Task As Timing Should Be Perfect To Find Gaps

Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag was highly impressed with Prithvi Shaw’s power-packed performance.

In a conversation with Cricbuzz, Virender Sehwag admitted that even he used to think of smashing all the six balls when he opened the innings in his playing days but he could never achieve the feat unlike what Prithvi Shaw did against KKR.

“Smashing six boundaries off all the six balls means playing every ball through the perfect gap, which is not easy. I’ve opened in my career and had thought of smashing all the six balls so many times. But I got a maximum of 18 or 20 odd runs. I couldn’t hit six boundaries or six sixes. For that you need to be perfect on your timing so that you can find those gaps,” Virender Sehwag told Cricbuzz.

“Prithvi Shaw was excellent with the bat. He didn’t look as if he has come to play a cricket match. Or maybe he had the confidence of playing with Shivam Mavi in the U-19 team that he knew where the bowler would bowl exactly.

“I have batted against Ashish Nehra so many times in nets, domestic games but would never be able to hit him for six boundaries in an over. Hats off to Prithvi Shaw for his fantastic innings,” he added.

Virender Sehwag further said that Prithvi Shaw should have got his hundred as he has come a long way after going through a rough patch.

“It would have been more exciting if he had got a hundred. He has gone through tough times already. But now, when the runs were coming, he must have scored a hundred or remained unbeaten and finished the chase,” Sehwag concluded.

Prithvi Shaw has 269 runs in 7 matches averaging 38.42 at a staggering strike rate of 165.03 with 3 fifties. He is 3rd highest run-scorer in IPL 2021 and has hit the most boundaries after Shikhar Dhawan who is the highest run-scorer.

Earlier, Shubman Gill couldn’t capitalize on a good start after the right-hander was dismissed for 43 off Avesh Khan’s bowling. KKR scored 18 runs off the penultimate over by Kagiso Rabada after Andre Russell clobbered two huge sixes along with a four.  The final over from Avesh Khan gave away 13 runs after Andre Russell finished the innings in style with a maximum, helping KKR to put 154/6 on board.

Prithvi Shaw played an exceptional knock at the top, scoring 82 off 41 deliveries as DC chased down the total in the 17th over after the bowlers restricted KKR to 154/6.

Brief Scores: Delhi Capitals: 156/3 (Prithvi Shaw 82, Shikhar Dhawan 46; Pat Cummins 3/24 ) beat Kolkata Knight Riders: 154/6 (Andre Russell 45*, Shubman Gill 43; Lalit Yadav 2/13) by 7 wickets.

IPL 2020: Grateful To KKR Management For Backing Us When We Were Injured – Shivam Mavi

Man of the moment and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pacer Shivam Mavi extended his gratitude to the KKR management for backing him in his long injury spells. Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti had an incredible Wednesday night in Dubai — taking two wickets each at an amazing economy rate. The pace duo had starred in India’s Under-19 World Cup Campaign in 2018 and were both signed by KKR in the same year.

However, Mavi could only play nine matches in IPL 2018 and was out of IPL 2019 due to stress fracture to his back.  Nagarkoti suffered a back injury which kept him out for two seasons. The KKR management stuck with both of their young guns — and now they seem to be paying back with their match-winning performance.

The skipper still feels it wasn’t the perfect game and they need to improve a lot. Once again, Karthik failed with the bat, scoring only 1 run. Shubman Gill’s 47, and Eoin Morgan’s 34, helped KKR get a satisfactory score on the board.

“Wouldn’t call it a perfect game. Lot of areas we need to improve. A lot of things pleased me – the way Gill started, Mavi bowled, the way Russell batted, the way Morgan kept his head. The beautiful sight of the youngsters going for the catch no matter how high it is,” Dinesh Karthik said.
