CM Punk, the original AEW World Heavyweight Champion has returned to TV by appearing on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite. He hasn’t been on television for the past couple of months but that changed last night at Quake By The Lake edition of AEW’s flagship show to possibly set up a huge matchup for the next PPV in line for AEW.
In the main event of this week’s AEW Dynamite, Jon Moxley (c) defeated Chris Jericho via Submission to retain the Interim AEW World Championship. After the match, Jericho Appreciation Society rushed the ring for an attack on Moxley but the latter’s allies Blackpool Combat Club made the save.

ROH Champion Claudio Castagnoli unloaded some strikes along with Wheeler Yuta but some more members of JAS ran to the ring to keep the number game in their favor. Punk eventually clotheslined Jericho out of the ring after which JAS retreated from ringside.

AEW Dynamite: Punk vs. Moxley set for All Out?
With the AEW Dynamite crowd erupting in a CM Punk chant, the returnee stood in the ring with Jon Moxley. Jon turned around and stared at CM Punk. The Interim Champion showed the AEW Champion the middle finger before walking away from the scene. Moxley celebrated with the Blackpool Combat Club from the ramp while Punk watched from the ring and signaled that his injured foot was okay.
Punk’s injury happened on the June 1 episode of AEW Dynamite which was just days five days after he won the AEW World Championship from Adam Page at the Double or Nothing pay-per-view. He cut a promo on the June 3 episode of AEW Rampage, a rare live edition to officially declare that he was injured and thus had to step away from the competition.
Punk was never stripped of his championship but Jon Moxley got to become the interim champion who won the title by defeating New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s Hiroshi Tanahashi at the Forbidden Door pay-per-view. Now with Punk’s return on AEW Dynamite, it’s expected that he will face Jon at the All Out pay-per-view on Sunday, September 4 to determine a true AEW World Champion.
