This week’s AEW Dynamite witnessed the debut of former Ring of Honor World Champion Jay Lethal. He featured in action for a TNT Title match against defending champion, Sammy Guevara. Lethal offered tough competition to “The Spanish God” but the champion pulled out the victory with his GTH finisher.

Lethal was under contract with the ROH for a long time but it was previously announced that the company would not be renewing its roster contracts at the end of the year which led him to arrive on AEW Dynamite. Jay Lethal has also worked for other promotions like Impact Wrestling where he is a six-time X Division Champion and a former TNA World Tag Champion.

Back in June 2015, Lethal became the ROH World Champion for the first time. He would win the Title in June 2018 by defeating Matt Taven, Cody Rhodes, and the World Champion at the time, Dalton Castle. Lethal is also the third Triple Crown Champion and the third Grand Slam Champion in the company’s history.

NJPW veteran debuted on AEW Dynamite

“The Forbidden Door” was opened again on this week’s AEW Dynamite when New Japan Pro Wrestling star Tomohiro Ishii made his debut. As per the announcement from AEW’s Full Gear, Ishii teamed up with Orange Cassidy in a tag team match against The Butcher and The Blade. The back and forth matchup saw Tomohiro get the win by hitting a short-arm lariat followed by a brainbuster.

Tomohiro Ishii has been performing in the NJPW promotion for over two decades now, as his first debut was in 1994. He is currently holding the NEVER Openweight Champion for a record sixth time who has also won the IWGP Tag Team Championships and NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championships. Ishii had also been an ROH Television Champion and the British Heavyweight Champion, respectively.

In more news from AEW Dynamite, Nyla Rose defeated Hikaru Shida in this week’s AEW TBS Title Tournament quarterfinals match. She will now face the winner of Kris Statlander vs. Ruby Soho. Rose was able to apply a standing stretch muffler submission for the victory. Shida’s knee was already hurt while Serena Deeb came to give a cheap chop-block on it for further damage.

The other half of the bracket features Thunder Rosa vs. Jamie Hayter and Jade Cargill vs. Red Velvet. The final match of the tournament takes place on January 5 when AEW Dynamite moves from TNT to TBS.
