Former two times WWE World Champion AJ Styles broke his silence on the perception of the fans of new World Heavyweight Championship being the secondary world title of WWE. “The Phenomenal One” was clearly not happy with the mentioned claims.
The World Heavyweight Championship was introduced by Triple H recently and it was introduced so that other wrestlers can also share the spotlight of the main event apart from Roman Reigns. Most of the fans are frustrated with Roman Reigns’ title defence and everybody wanted someone new on the title picture.
AJ Styles Calls Out The Perceived Secondary Status Of The World Heavyweight Title
AJ Styles and Seth Rollins would battle for the World Heavyweight title at Night of Champions PLE tomorrow. Triple H promised that the World Heavyweight Title will be defended regularly and everywhere. He also said that the fans would proud of it. AJ Styles recently appeared on the “My Love Letter To Wrestling” podcast to discuss about the title;
On the perception of the new title as secondary: “A lot of people have been calling it a secondary title and I would love to disagree with them, but how can I when Roman holds the Raw and the SmackDown championships so we’ve made a new one so that he can’t have it yet? Okay, I’ll give you that.
AJ Styles Will Face Seth Rollins At Night Of Champions To Determine The New World Heavyweight Champion
“But the key to this World Heavyweight Championship is that it’s going to be the workhorse championship. That’s what I believe this is going to be. I’ve been that guy, Seth has been the guy, so you’re not going to go wrong either way.”
On the idea of Reigns potentially coming after the title: “And when Roman wants to step up and challenge for that workhorse championship, we’ll see what becomes secondary then, because I believe that the guy who’s in the ring, there’s no ring rust, you get in there and you’re doing it and you’re working on all cylinders. This time that Roman’s taking where he’s not on every show, that’s going to hurt him in the long run, because we’re going to be polished and ready for the next fight.”
We do not know if it would actually be treated as a secondary title to the Undisputed Universal Heavyweight title but as long as WWE does not prove the worth of this title, the fans would keep on calling it a consolation for the rest of the roster. We hope it goes on to become the biggest prize in WWE.
