AJ Styles has undoubtedly been one of the top superstars of the active roster who didn’t have a great run, last year. That changed following a babyface turn, earlier this year that led him to get booked in a dream match at Wrestlemania 38. While many believe that he’s a favorite to become the winner in this match that may not be the case due to his contract issues.
After competing in numerous promotions all over the world, like TNA and NJPW, AJ Styles finally arrived at the WWE in 2016. In February 2021, news broke out that he might have has signed a new contract with the company and will be making $3 million per year. It appeared that WWE Officials were concerned about his departure and wanted to secure him by any means.

It appears that while AJ Styles wants to stay with the company for a long time, there’s no truth to the re-signing news. While speaking to Alex McCarthy of Inside the Ropes, the two-time WWE Champion talked about extending his contract with WWE. It was mentioned how he did not sign a new contract but rather chose a “player option” on his deal that allowed it to get extended.
“Let me make one thing clear. I didn’t sign anything, recently. I had something on my contract where I got to decide, kind of a player option, what I want to do, and we just extended the contract that I already had,” AJ Styles noted during the conversation.
The Phenomenal One then stated the following about his WWE career noting how he would want to end his stint on a high note, living up to his wrestling legacy.
“Time is running out, as far as AJ Styles is concerned. I am getting older. The ability to put on great matches is getting a little bit harder. I don’t want to embarrass myself at the same time. I want to get out while I can and still have somewhat of a legacy,” AJ Styles continued.
“I don’t want to have to work anywhere else. I’d love to work within WWE, but I don’t know if that’s going to happen.”

AJ Styles wants to work backstage at WWE NXT
A few months ago, Wrestling INC asked AJ Styles if he’d like to work in a similar role to that of Shawn Michaels in NXT / WWE Performance Center. When getting reminded of that interview, he came up with a positive answer,
“I would love to have that opportunity. I love to see people be successful, and having a hand in that to me, it would probably be the best thing I could do in my career. But, I don’t know that I’ll get that opportunity, I am just saying.”
As noted, at WrestleMania 38 Sunday, AJ Styles will face WWE Hall of Famer Edge in a Dream Match. Many believe that the latter name has transformed into a heel character to bring out the bulldog version of his opponent and thereby put him over in a big way at the Show of Shows. We have to wait and seen to see how things play out in this match that the wrestling fraternity has been waiting for so long.
