AJ Styles Reveals WWE Did Not Have Any Plans When They Signed Him

But the story of Styles was different. She was so talented and famous that WWE could not keep themselves away from pushing him as a top guy of the promotion. In a very short amount of time he won two WWE Championship reigns in the promotion. He also won other championships as well.

Except of the WWE Championship, Styles won the WWE intercontinental championship one time, WWE Raw Tag Team Championship one time, and the WWE United States Championship three times in total. Even after his main event push was over, he has always been treated as an upper mid card.

But when he was signed by WWE back in 2016 it did not look like the way I had any plans to push him as a main event star. He was mostly focusing on feuds with mid card talents. But his ultimate push started from the Money in the Bank pay per view event of the same here when he defeated John Cena. In the same year, he won the WWE championship.

He has been treated as the top star of the promotion as long as he was on Friday Night Smackdown. But as soon as he was drafted to Monday Night RAW, his main event push was gone but he constantly remained a mid card. Currently he is working as a babyface it is quite unfortunate that he is still nothing more than a mid card.

AJ Styles who is also a former two times TNA World Heavyweight Champion recently spoke to BT Sports where he said that he did not think WWE has any plans when they signed him in 2016. He said;

“I don’t know if they planned anything. It was like, ‘Hey, we need something different for the Rumble. You want to throw in AJ? I think there was a big discussion when I’d even go out. I don’t think Vince [McMahon] believed that anyone would know who I was. From what I’m hearing or heard, he saw nothing great about AJ Styles, even after the pop at the Rumble. I wasn’t even going to be on RAW the next day.”
