AJ Styles Praises John Cena, Says He Was Surprised To See How Good He Was In The Ring
Before becoming the main event start in WWE, it was the Mighty John Cena himself who pushed him towards the main event level. At the Money in the Bank pay per view event, Styles faced Cena for the first time and he was victorious in their first meeting. However it was not a clean win. At SummerSlam which was the very next pay per view event to Battleground, the duo met again and this time Styles beat Cena clean.
It was a big push and Styles went on to win the WWE championship on the very next pay per view event. At the Royal Rumble pay per view event of 2017, the duo met each other once again for the WWE championship. This time Cena won.

They met each other once again at the Elimination Chamber paper view event but this time it was not a one on one match. It was inside the Elimination Chamber with four other men. Styles eliminated Cena from this match and that was pretty much it for this feud.

I had some of my better matches against this guy.”

“I didn’t realize what I was getting myself into, there’s a little bit of everything. I had no idea. That’s one of those things where I had a lot to learn. Some guys may not look the part, but they definitely… His mind for how everything needs to work and transition-wise.
“He’s just good. He knows what he’s doing. It’s one of those things were you thought, ‘I’m the superior wrestler in the ring,’ but once you get in there with John Cena, you realize, ‘Well, okay, I didn’t know that. Let’s keep going.’ He’s pretty good.”
