This was the final title difference of WWE Backlash 2023 pay per view event and the crowd was really hot for this match as well. This was not the first time these to athletes went toe to toe but definitely this was there biggest clash ever. This was one of the biggest matches of Zelina’s career as well.
The match might have been predictable but Zelina Vega’s home support was really amazing in this match. She had her family among the crowd it was a really special moment for her. Before the start of the match, she became pretty emotional and she could not help her tears. This was a really emotional moment.
WWE Backlash 2023 – WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship – Rhea Ripley Vs. Zelina Vega
It was certainly not the best match of the night and honestly, it felt like WWE did a little injustice to the home crowd in this match. The match was booked for only seven minutes and it did not even feel like a pay per view match. It was just another weekly show standard match.
Of course this was a predictable match. No way Zelina Vega was going to beat one of the hottest things in WWE today. The way Rhea Ripley was built to win the title at WrestleMania 39, someone has to be booked very strongly to dethrone her.
And right now there is no one who has the capability of dethroning The Nightmare. This might be a bad thing as well since all of her matches would be extremely predictable as long as the WWE does not book someone properly. The women’s division had been a mess since last year, so it would take time.
About this match on Backlash, it was mostly dominated by the champion. Zelina Vega had her moments but it was not enough to take the champion down. The home crowd was Red Hot during the match but they did not sound very convince with the end of it. At least expected a better contest from this duo.
It was pretty obvious that Zelina was losing but if she receives a better booking it would have been easier to build her as a name for future. But it does not look like WWE has any big plans for her. They just wanted to cash in on her home crowd support, and it actually worked.
