WWE Hall of Famer and a former three times WWE Women’s champion Beth Phoenix who is also a former WWE Divas Champion recently revealed how she came up with her Glamazon nickname.
Beth Phoenix did not have a very long career in professional wrestling but in this short amount of time she became extremely famous among the fans. She started her professional wrestling career back in 2001. After she completed her training, started working on the independent circuit.
Beth Phoenix Reveals How She Got Her Glamazon Nickname
She spent four years on the independent circuit. During her independent circuit run started training in WWE. She joined Ohio Valley Wrestling in 2004, it was the development Territory of WWE back then. After spending two years on the Ohio Valley Wrestling, she joined the main roster in 2006.
From the very first day of her main roster career, she had been portrayed as a very strong force. She worked on various storylines during her time in WWE. She only had a run of six years in the main roster of WWE, what in these six years, made a permanent mark for herself.
She left WWE in 2012 and did not work in ring since then. WWE inducted into the Hall Of Fame class of 2017. She is now working as a full time NXT commentator. She is doing her commentary role for last two years, and she is doing it excellently.
Beth Phoenix who is also a former WWE Divas Champion recently spoke to Out of Character with Ryan Satin where she revealed how she came up with her Glamazon nickname. He said;
“I heard the term and I’m like, yes, that’s a wrestling moniker. At the time, other than the Ninth Wonder of the World, the women weren’t really branded with a moniker, like The Rock. I felt like I was in a transitional period in the women’s division. That era that I was in, we had lost a lot of the golden era so to speak, Trish, Jazz, Lita, and all those characters.
“We were rebuilding the division. During that landscape, there weren’t any girls with that moniker. It was more them using their names. I felt like I was just trying to do everything I could to stand out, and so I was like, I’m just going to brand myself The Glamazon and wear a tiara.
“So, if I only get 30 seconds on TV, you might not remember my name, but you’ll be like, ‘Oh, that’s the girl with the tiara. That’s the tiara girl.’ I was hoping Glamazon would be a good hook. A name like Beth might be a common name, but you might remember, ‘Ooh, Glamazon, that’s kind of neat.
“She’s like a big Amazonian type of woman.’ I was trying to connect with the audience to give them something memorable so that in the women’s division, I would be one that would stand out.”
