WWE Universal Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns recently celebrated his 1000 day World title reign in WWE. He is the first wrestler in the promotion in 36 long years to achieve such a huge landmark. The last wrestler was Hulk Hogan who had an iconic 1474 day World title reign.

Hall of Famer Pedro Morales had an epic 1027 day World title reign which is going to be beaten by Roman Reigns in less than three weeks time. Pedro Morales set the record fifty long years ago. Roman Reigns is definitely going to break this record by this week and it would be a huge achievement for The Tribal Chief.

Beyond World Heavyweight Championship: Two Huge “Three Decade Long” Records Are Set To Break In WWE Soon

However, reports from various sources suggest that there are plans for Roman Reigns to continue his historical World title reign for more than a year. He is reportedly planned to beat the 1474 title reign of Hulk Hogan, and to beat this reign, he has to keep the title to himself for more than a year. So we can believe that he is not dropping the title before WrestleMania 41.

But Hulk Hogan is not the only wrestler whose record is in jeopardy. Reports from WRKD Wrestling suggest that the current Intercontinental Champion Gunther is closing in on a historical landmark. The Ring General is currently one of the most dominant champions in WWE.

Roman Reigns And Gunther Are Set To Make New Records

WRKD Wrestling reports Gunther is set to break the record of Hall of Famer Honky Tonk Man, “We’ve learned that there are internal talks for Gunther to pass Honky Tonk Man’s all time historic Intercontinental championship reign. He’d officially break the record on September 6th.”

Honky Tonk Man set a record of carrying the Intercontinental Championship for an iconic 454 days and it had been the longest Intercontinental Championship reign in the history. Gunther is closing in on beating this huge record that remained intact for 35 long years.

The Ring General is only three months away from beating this huge record of the Honky Tonk Man. This might upset some fans that history is going to change soon but in WWE, records are meant to be broken. After the end of Undertaker’s WrestleMania streak, they proved that nothing lasts forever in this promotion.
