‘The Cult of Personality’ is finally back on WWE TV with a bang. Former WWE Champion CM Punk has made a shocking return on WWE programming after a hiatus of six years, last night.
He showed up in the FOX-exclusive talk-show named WWE Backstage that sent the pro-wrestling universe to a frenzy. Renee Young was about to conclude this week’s episode when she decided to throw a surprise in the form of the former Straight Edge Society Leader.
Indication that CM Punk is eventually coming back to WWE
His music hit the WWE Backstage setup as we saw CM Punk arriving on the show. He faced the camera and uttered the following,
“It’s as simple as this, just when they think they’ve got the answers, I change the culture. I’ll see you here next week.”
Just in case you don’t know, we want to clarify that CM Punk has not signed to the WWE, as of now. WWE Backstage is a show produced by FOX sports and not the company owned by Vince McMahon.
Rhea Ripley talks about her unique attitude
But the fact that the two-time WWE Champion decided to join the show, raised questions whether the inevitable WWE return is happening, sooner. For now, FOX’s Twitter handle has announced that he will be “appearing periodically” on the show.
By the end of last month, CM Punk commented on his tryout with FOX for the WWE Backstage talk-show. But he decided to con the fans saying that he hadn’t heard back since his tryout,
“They asked me to come out and I was already in LA, so I went into the FOX studios. I guess you could call it an audition? I haven’t heard a thing.
“Renee Young and Booker T, I haven’t seen either of them in five+ years. I think Renee is great, that’s the kind of thing she is built for. Booker, to me, he’s Booker; he’s always laughing and he’s good for that kind of role.”
However, FOX was obviously happy with how it went down and so was the beloved former WWE superstar. So he decided to show up on the second episode aired. He has obviously signed a contract with the FOX Sports and not WWE, for now.
The significant part of this appearance was that WWE.com addressed the same with an official statement. It was the first time that they mentioned CM Punk like this since his departure in 2014,
“After a nearly six-year absence from WWE TV, CM Punk made a shocking, unannounced appearance on Tuesday night’s episode of WWE Backstage, FS1’s new weekly studio show.
The two-time WWE Champion arrived during the show’s final moments, entering to the sounds of Living Colour’s “Cult of Personality,” Punk’s entrance music during his storied in-ring career.
Punk left an unforgettable legacy during his WWE career, including holding the WWE Championship for a remarkable 434 days. Since parting ways with WWE, Punk has gone on to author comic books for Marvel, compete in UFC and, more recently, star in the horror film “Girl on the Third Floor,” released in theaters last month. Don’t miss Punk’s headline-making return to WWE Backstage next Tuesday at 11 p.m. ET on FS.”
