Brock Lesnar ended up winning the WWE Championship in the main event of the bygone WWE Day 1 pay-per-view. Originally, this match was scheduled to be a Fatal-4-Way match between Big E, Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, and Bobby Lashley.
Prior to the PPV event, Roman Reigns tested positive for COVID-19 earlier today, which caused the already scheduled Universal Title defense for Reigns against Brock Lesnar to get canceled. Then, Lesnar was added to this WWE Championship match, thus making it a Fatal 5 Way encounter.
In the match, Brock Lesnar pinned Big E with an F5 to win the match and then finish the segment, having a staredown with Bobby Lashley (who put up a dominant performance during the match and also speared Lesnar twice. Lashley also locked in the Hurt Lock, which Big E broke before getting hit by the F5 for the loss).
WWE Raw Champ Becky Lynch Challenges Returning Beth Phoenix After Day 1
Following the WWE Day 1 main event, Olympic Gold Medalist and WWE RAW Superstar Gable Steveson congratulated The Beast in a backstage area, as he was in attendance for the PPV event. Plus, Gable also posted a photo of Lesnar winning the gold while he watched the scene from ringside. Thus, he was hinting at a huge potential showdown in the near future.
Brock Lesnar is a mentor for Gable Steveson
Steveson previously admitted that Brock Lesnar has been a huge influence for him in signing with WWE as he found Lesnar’s career path helpful for himself. Lesnar also gave him some important advice during his college years. Both the superstars are also billed from the same state of Minnesota.
Gable had a few training sessions with the beast incarnate when he was preparing for the Olympics and other competitions. In addition, Lesnar’s long-time advocate Paul Heyman is a mentor figure to the upcoming WWE Superstar. While Gable hasn’t made his official WWE debut as a Superstar yet, he was drafted to RAW last year.
Steveson’s performance at the Tokyo Olympics alongside his Gold Medal win gave him a well-known name in the world of sports. After long speculation, WWE finally managed to sign him to an exclusive contract via which he will continue to represent Minnesota. Now that Brock Lesnar is on Raw and Steveson is also set for a Raw debut, a collision could very well be foreseen.
