Brock Lesnar will Not Defend His Universal Championship At Payback 1

Five-time world champion Brock Lesnar defeated Goldberg at WrestleMania 33. Last week on Monday Night Raw, Paul Heyman cut a promo regarding Brock Lesnar’s win over Goldberg at WrestleMania 33, his future opponents and Roman Reigns.

Paul Heyman addressed Goldberg and made fun of him. Fans booed to hear Goldberg’s name and when Heyman said that they would never see Goldberg around here anymore, the fans reacted very happily. Heyman next named some wrestlers who could be up for the challenge for Lesnar’s title, like Seth Rollins, Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy, even both. Then he mentioned Roman Reigns. So Reigns is next in the queue for Brock. Roman got challenged by Paul. Braun Strowman interfered and challenged Brock.

Fans were really happy to speculate Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg at the next exclusive pay per view of Raw; Payback. But now, it seems like this match not happening. Not only is this match, Brock Lesnar not even competing at Payback.

According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s Dave Meltzer, the Universal Champion may not be in action on the very first PPV after ‘Mania itself.

There are even rumours that Brock Lesnar will not put the title on the line before Summerslam. That means all the Raw exclusive pay per view event that will take place before Summerslam, will not feature any World championship match. Such a thing never happened in past that a World championship was defended in the span between WrestleMania and Summerslam in the recent days.

Fans worldwide criticised the decision of putting two part-timers in a world championship match at the biggest stage of them all. Such a thing happened in WWE for the first time only. But most of the fans speculated that we will see more of Brock Lesnar now since he took his retirement from UFC and he does not have any other involvement right now. But it looks like fans were wrong.

So what is the reason behind Brock is not competing at Payback? Here is our take; we think WWE is not being able to afford Brock’s payment regularly. Brock earns more than John Cena and it is difficult to pay him his salary on a regular basis. This has to be the reason.

If this is seriously the reason, then why putting the gold on his shoulders? There are wrestlers that are working really hard to achieve the success, then why are they giving the title to someone to does not even care much about the title? They should stop pushing part-timers now. It is really unfair for the other wrestlers.
