Bron Breakker featured in the main event of the Great American Bash 2022 edition, last night and emerged victorious by the end. Despite all the efforts put in by his challenger Cameron Grimes, the champion managed to escape with a title win.

Grimes took advantage of a hurt shoulder and executed the Cave-finisher but he wasn’t successful in getting the pinfall win. Grimes then went for a top rope move but got cut off with a mid-air spear to digest the pin-fall loss.

During this bygone title defense at the Great American Bash 2022, WWE NXT Champion Bron Breakker paid homage to his uncle, Scott Steiner. This one wasn’t a surprise since he has already done the same since his debut on NXT 2.0.

As you can see in the photo, Bron Breakker was sporting the star-spangled patriotic singlet that Scott and Rick Steiner donned for their match at the 1993 Survivor Series. On that night, The All-American group (Lex Luger, The Steiner Brothers, and The Undertaker) defeated The Foreign Fanatics (Crush, Quebecer Jacques, Ludvig Borga, and Yokozuna) in the traditional 4-on-4 elimination match of the PPV event.

Prior to The Bash 2022, Bron Breakker successfully defended his NXT Title against Joe Gacy at NXT In Your House special where he also paid homage to Big Poppa Pump. On that night, he would don Steiner’s gear from WrestleMania 9, where The Steiner Brothers defeated The Headshrinkers in a match that earned critics’ respect for being a great bout.

As noted above, Bron Breakker retained his title at Bash 2022 against Grimes but he couldn’t enjoy his post-match celebration since JD McDonagh (FKA Jordan Devlin) offered an ambush on the ramp.

Just as the champion was preparing to move to the backstage area, McDonagh attacked him from behind. The attack ended with a side slam into a nearby table that was filled with food. McDonagh screamed at the camera saying that he was “the necessary evil” in NXT to send the show off the air.

With this set of actions, it’s likely that JD was trying to get into the title picture with his new gimmick, right away. There’s no update on how the rivalry against Bron Breakker is planned but being a babyface champion, he won’t back down from giving JD a title match, down the road.
