Bruce Prichard Reveals Why Shawn Michaels Vs. Rob Van Dam Feud Never Happened
The wish of the fans was half granted by WWE. After Michaels won the first ever WWE Elimination Chamber match at Survivor Series pay per view event of 2002 in which Van Dam was also involved, WWE booked a match between the HBK and RVD for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in an episode of Monday Night RAW. The match aired on 25th November, 2002 episode of the Monday Night RAW.
This match was definitely a dream come true moment for the fans. But unfortunately it was not a part of their individual feud but it was mostly used to continue the feed between Michaels and Triple H. The previous World Heavyweight Champion Triple H interfered during the match and attacked Van Dam first and then Michaels, leading the match to disqualification. And that was it for these two. They never met each other in any other match ever after. The dream feud between Michaels and Van Dam never happened.

Bruce Prichard who is also known by the name of Brother Love recently spoke on his Something to Wrestle With podcast where he talked about the dream feud between Shawn Michaels and Rob Van Dam that never happened. He explained why this dream feud was never booked in WWE. He said;
“I think it was a styles clash. It was a clash of styles that I didn’t think would work. I really didn’t. Rob needs a certain kind of opponent. Shawn could work a broomstick. Rob definitely wasn’t a broomstick. Rob was heavy, he was thick. It was ugly. It got hit by an ugly stick. It was two guys who didn’t mesh. They were not meshing for several minutes…It didn’t gel”.

“No. They actually were both big fans of Rob. They were two proponents of getting Rob into the mix. Hence the reason we even did the match. A lot of the lustre came off when Rob came off the top onto Hunter’s throat. It wasn’t clumsy, it was just an accident.
“I think a lot of people looked at that and thought Rob was dangerous. That was a reputation that Van Dam had. That he was dangerous. I didn’t think Rob was dangerous, I thought he was snug. I don’t think anything Rob ever did was dangerous to his opponents. In hurting Hunter it was ‘Oh God, he’s dangerous’”.
