Former WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion Carmella recently expressed her disappointment for not getting enough TV times in WWE. The wrestler who was getting pushed on the main events just three – four years ago has completely vanished from the picture suddenly.
Carmella started her pro wrestling career in WWE in 2013 and still going really strong. She has been given chance to shine in the main roster during the second brand split in 2016. She was drafted in WWE Smackdown and for five years she is working in Smackdown only.
Carmella Frustrated With WWE?
In 2017, she won the first ever Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match and cashed in her contract ten months after winning it. She cashed in on Charlotte Flair and continued her reign for 131 days.
After losing the title to Charlotte Flair again at Summerslam 2018 (it was a triple threat match which included Becky Lynch too) Carmella was never been pushed as she was in this process. Of course she won the WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal in 2019 but it was more like the Men’s Andre the Giant Battle Royal which was completely meaningless.
Recently, Carmella has not been booked properly at all. Not only Carmella, but most of the woman wrestlers are getting poor bookings right now. Even Bayley was not booked at WrestleMania for no real reason. The princess of the Statin Island expressed her frustration when she spoke on Bellas podcast. She said;
“It’s…you know how this place goes. People that don’t work here, it’s hard to explain. Of course I’m grateful I have a job, I’m grateful I work for this amazing company. But last summer I just was off TV for four or five months.
“I just sat at my home, twiddling my thumbs. What am I doing? There was no rhyme or reason for why I was at home, I was just told ‘we’re going to wait to bring you back and do a different story.’ And then I kind of revamped my character a little bit, which is cool. It’s nice to get a new coat of paint. Then I came back, had this awesome story with Sasha, felt like I totally delivered.”
This week on Smackdown she defeated Ruby Riott by submission. And after she got the new theme and entrance it seems like she is being repackaged by WWE again. Speaking of Ruby Riott, she was another big indie name who was getting terrible bookings. We hope these things change soon.
