Main Event Success
Ultimate Success
Her success continued after this win as she became the biggest attraction of the women’s division of WWE of the time. She kept on having multiple top feuds with some of the biggest names of the promotion. The first wrestler to Step Up against her after her iconic victory at WrestleMania 32 was Natalya. Flair managed to take her down much like many of her opponents.
Creating History at WrestleMania 34
She kept on winning more and more championships in the following years. She won both the RAW Women’s Championship and Smackdown Women’s Championship. In the meantime, she made history at WrestleMania 34 when she defeated Asuka to retain her SmackDown Women’s Championship. Asuka remained undefeated for 914 days before entering this match.
Main Eventing WrestleMania 35
At WrestleMania 35 she created another history when she defended her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Ronda Rousey and Becky Lynch where the RAW Women’s championship of Rousey was also on the line and it was a Winner Take All stipulation. The history making moment was, it was the first ever main event of WrestleMania where it was all women and no men.
She dropped her SmackDown Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 35 to Becky Lynch but she received massive criticism for getting this opportunity. The fans wanted to see a simple one on one match between Ronda Rousey and Becky Lynch and the fans did not want anyone else in this match, not even Charlotte Flair.
Royal Rumble 2020 Win, NXT Women’s Championship
In 2020, Flair won another big accomplishment. She won the Royal Rumble match and secured a championship match at WrestleMania 36. She decided to challenge Rhea Ripley for the WWE NXT Women’s Championship. She became the first wrestler to challenge for an NXT title at WrestleMania after winning the Royal Rumble match. She defeated Rhea Ripley to win the NXT Women’s Championship.
Once again she had to deal with massive criticism. She had absolutely no reason to win the Royal Rumble match since she was not challenging for any main roster Championship. Since both of the title pictures were already decided for WrestleMania 36, the fans felt that she had no reason to win the Royal Rumble match and it should have been won by Shayna Baszler for someone from the SmackDown Women’s championship match.
Missing WrestleMania 37
She missed WrestleMania 37 due to an injury but she returns soon after the event to challenge the RAW Women’s champion Rhea Ripley for the title. Soon she took away the Championship from Rhea. Once she got drafted to SmackDown she got a free reign for The Smackdown Women’s Championship when the championships had to change hands.
Feud with Ronda Rousey
She even defended the Championship at WrestleMania 38 against Ronda Rousey who won the Royal Rumble match and decided to Challenge her. She shocked everyone when she defeated Ronda Rousey to retain her Championship at WrestleMania 38. But she dropped the title to Rousey on the very next PLE of WWE which was WrestleMania Backlash.
Finishing the Story with Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania 39
She took a long break after her defeat on the mentioned event. She returned at the end of 2022 to take the SmackDown women’s Championship away from Ronda Rousey. She went on to defend the title at WrestleMania 39 against one of the biggest rivals of her career; Rhea Ripley. This was the first time Flair lifted Ripley when she dropped to the title to the Australian professional wrestler. Right now she is active on SmackDown and her quest to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship is still on.
Iconic Quotes From Charlotte Flair
“Negative comments in terms of body image are the hardest thing the women probably struggle with. But I think the best thing that we can do as WWE superstars is taking that negativity and using it in a positive way, because there are so many young kids on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter to not send the message of hate on to.”
“I don’t know if me and my dad have necessarily touched on this because we talk about Reid but not a lot. But me wrestling, I think, ultimately saved my dad’s career and not only saved my life but definitely put a whole other chapter that no one saw coming because it could’ve been rock bottom after my brother passed away.”
“The most challenging thing that female wrestlers face is time. Getting those segments on Raw, getting one, two, three, four segments on SmackDown, main-eventing a pay-per-view, being considered a face of the division… And I have said it since day one: I want to be an attraction for the company.”
“Sitting front row with my little brother, my older brother, and my dad’s wife at the time – seeing 80,000 people at the Citrus Bowl emotionally pouring their hearts out watching my dad retire – I didn’t even grasp what he meant to the industry. I didn’t even fully grasp it until I started wrestling myself.”
“The hard part for me was not the wrestling – it was showing emotion, telling a story, and being able to connect with fans. Coming out as Ric Flair’s daughter and being called athletically gifted, it’s hard to say, ‘Hey, like me! You can relate to me!’ It wasn’t working, so I completely switched my character.”
“I think what people don’t realize is the transition from NXT to the main roster is a big jump. It’s getting a whole new audience familiar with a certain character. If you debut too many women at one time, it’s hard for the audience to get to know, understand, and see the rise of that character.”
“No one ever has a chance to get to know the real me because I do play a bad guy, and sometimes it’s hard to soak in the comments or the negativity because that’s the response you want to elicit. I am a normal person, but that’s part of the job. I’m playing a character, and that’s my role.”
