Charlotte Flair dropped her SmackDown Women’s Championship at the WrestleMania Backlash 2022 premium live event. On that night, Ronda Rousey made her say “I Quit” to win the title for the very first time while her bitter rival’s record sixth reign with the title came to an end.
The finish came when Charlotte Flair gave Ronda one last warning and wished her Happy Mother’s Day. But Ronda countered, pulled her arm through a Steel Chair, and applied the Armbar submission. The Queen had no choice but to scream I Quit. After this sequence, backstage interviewer Kayla Braxton announced that Flair suffered a “fracture of the radius”, a forearm injury due to which she won’t be seen in action for an indefinite timespan.

Subsequent reports confirmed that this obviously was a storyline injury to write Charlotte Flair off WWE programming as she was scheduled to take time off from WWE TV. She had her marriage scheduled with her fiancée and AEW wrestler Andrade and hence requested time off prior to WrestleMania Backlash 2022. The kayfabe injury was then done at the PLE to make way for her hiatus.
Charlotte Flair set to return around this summer
Speculations were running high about her return to TV since WWE can’t afford a long absence for a top-caliber superstar like her. Now, Wrestling Observer suggests that Charlotte Flair is scheduled to return this summer in order to continue her rivalry with Ronda in hopes of getting her revenge,
“In the Rousey-Flair match, Rousey made Flair submit to an Armbar. In storyline, Flair suffered a broken radial bone (forearm fracture).
This was to explain Flair being out of action due to getting ready for her wedding with [Andrade] of AEW over Memorial Day weekend. She is scheduled to return over the summer going for revenge.”
The seeds of the continuation of the top program have already been planted as Ronda mentioned in her promo how she had to break Charlotte Flair’s arm in order to gain her first Smackdown Women’s Championship win.
But The Queen is simply not done with ‘the baddest woman on the planet’ as she plans on seeking redemption, this summer. The speculated return should also help WWE since they would have to stack things up for three back-to-back stadium shows, Money in the Bank, Summerslam, and Clash at the Castle.
