CM Punk started a dream run in All Elite Wrestling after coming back to professional wrestling via this promotion, last year. Last month, he went to the top of the roster by clinching the top world championship of AEW at the Double or Nothing event but an injury put a halt to all those momentums. This was confirmed while we received the latest update regarding him on the latest episode of Dynamite.
AEW World Champion CM Punk has undergone successful lower leg surgery in Los Angeles on Wednesday as informed by AEW during the live telecast of Dynamite on TBS. A diagnosis coming out of the injury remains unclear as the announcers only mentioned that the top superstar got surgery to repair a lower leg injury.
AEW Dynamite: Huge Championship Ladder Match Featuring Hardy Boyz Announced
No timeframe was provided on his return to AEW TV as it’s likely that it will be kept a secret so that a surprising capacity can be kept around the situation. While the exact cause of the injury is unknown, it’s likely that the tag team match, the first one for CM Punk as the AEW World Champion, last week resulted in the same.
Then in an emotional address to the fans on last Friday’s AEW Rampage, CM Punk stated that “a couple of things” were broken, with his heart being the biggest one while he never specified the exact nature of his injury.
Moving forward, AEW President Tony Khan also addressed the former champion’s injury on Wednesday’s Busted Open Radio where he stated that CM Punk was being treated by “one of the top doctors in the entire world and someone really renowned in sports medicine.” But Khan didn’t provide any further details on the injury diagnosis.
