WWE Raw star and the winner of the men’s Royal Rumble match of 2023 Cody Rhodes who is also a former two times WWE Intercontinental Champion recently talked about WWE making the announcement office return for the Royal Rumble pay per view event and he said that he did not mind it.
Cody Rhodes had been one of the premium superstars of WWE Since his return at WrestleMania 38 last year. But he picked up a big injury just before the Hell in a Cell pay per view event and it sidelined him from action for nearly 8 months. He finally made his retired at the Royal Rumble pay per view event on late January this year.
Cody Rhodes Discusses WWE announcing His Return Before Royal Rumble
A lot of WWE fans are not happy with the way WWE promoted his return. The promotion already announced the news of his return and they kept on promoting it. A lot of fan wanted him to be a surprise entrant in this year’s Royal Rumble match. It could have been a vibe from Royal Rumble 2008 John Cena entered the Royal Rumble match as a surprise entrant and won it.
Needless to say, Cody won this year’s Royal Rumble match after he entered as the entry number 30. He is going to challenge Roman Reigns for the WWE Undisputed Universal Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 39. Surely he has a big future lying ahead of himself in WWE.
Cody Rhodes who is also a former two times WWE Intercontinental Champion recently spoke to Peter Rosenberg on HOT 97 where he talked about WWE making the announcement office return for the Royal Rumble pay per view event and he said that he did not mind it. He said;
“I think that’s a great point of contention, your point (that the vignettes leading up to the Royal Rumble, getting the #30 spot & winning the Rumble could be too much) and really up to the fans to decide. The way I look at it is this, I want fans to know — again, forever, it was, ‘I’m gonna do this.’ ‘No, he can’t do this.’
“‘I’m gonna do this.’ ‘No, they can’t do this.’ I’m telling you now this time, this is what I’m gonna do. I’m telling you. Joe Namath style, I’m calling the shot and I think there’s something that I do like.
“ really didn’t have an opinion on whether it should be a surprise or not but I do think there’s something about, especially as a character that is being received positively and warmly, hey, I’m gonna tell you what I’m gonna do and you’re gonna take the ride with me but what I’m saying is gonna happen and I think there’s something powerful in that messaging.”
